    Hearty thanks to all!

I know this would seem boring to thank one and all but I think its important !

The most frequently asked question to me was "How did your parents allow you?:O" They did and I thank my parents for being so open-minded,trusting me in whatever I did and allowing me for this wonderful trip. I was always in contact with them whether there wasnt any network, made it a point to find A STD booth. They were happy and more concerned about me,particularly about sending money if I needed. Before going my mom had asked me for my bank account numbers so that in case I fell short of money they could transfer it and I had told her "Dont worry..just in case im on the verge of going bankrupt,I'll open up a tea-stall there!" Thank you for all the support and love. You are the best parents anyone can have, love you !

Thanks to Tushar Jadhav and Nilesh Shinde for being such good riders and even better companions and accepting to ride alongwith a nut like me!

Thanks to Nitin Manore for always being in contact and helping out. We regret not being there at your marriage. Well none of your adopted kids were present anyways so you still owe us a treat! And we did celebrate your marriage at Leh typical DK style !

Thanks to Ketan Nikharge for all the help and the foot-pump too. I have got back what I'd promised you. See you soon !

Thanks to Satyen and Rishabh for all the small tips time and again, wished to meet you up there and have a G2G but anyways!

Thanks to Biru bhaiya and Alu bhaiya for always inspiring me through your trips and travelogues.Alu bhaiya I still have those wonderful lines with me and will always remain with me and keep inspiring me to write.

"Why pen down the anticipation, the possible journey or the disappointment, the experiences beyond? To share with those before me? But they've already experienced it. I'll only be telling them what they already know. To share with those after me? But they'll experience it some day. I'll probably be ruining their surprise. To share with those that never will? If they did not care enough to experience it themselves, will they really care about my perspective on it? Then who am I doing this for?

When in doubt, resort to logic... If I rule out those before me, those after me and those that never will, it leaves me with me. I write this for myself. I write this as a retirement plan. For in my final days when the body is less than ideal, when the mind is fickle, when those around me lie in wait for my convenient demise, I will have no better company than the memories I create here and now. And while the arrow of time will force my brain to flush out details to make way for new information, as the memories fade quickly and the details become sparse - ripe for nostalgic rewriting - it is this digital ink that will help me travel back in time, relive the moments, stay true to the experience, remember/realize that my life was not wasted, that I spent it with friends, with family, with faithful machines that braved the toughest terrains to allow me to live life instead of getting through it, to forge friendships that would stand the test of time, to forget those that betrayed me, to remember those I lost, to the Universe that came together to make me...me.

And if all goes well, maybe someday I'll be able to sit my children and my grand children down, share milk and cookies with them, open my big book of blogs - printed out in big bold fonts for the convenience of my dying eyes - and share with them my adventures, in the hope that they might someday rediscover our legacy...that which we discovered decades before them... Freedom."
    - Alankar Misra

Vishwas sir, your travelogue was quite helpful while planning the ride, mainly to remind the things which were to be taken and which were not to be taken.Thank you! And thanks to ramky whose maps proved useful everywhere.

Thanks to Saurabh Datye for all the support, all the riding gears and stuff, your saddlebags and shoes were really helpful. The shoes being the good surprise which held up in all conditions heat, soil, sand, mud, muck, gravel, tar, water, slush, poo and I guess must be the only motorcycle boots which were quite comfortable for riding, walking, hiking, trekking, crossing rivers, cutting poo cakes etc. etc.! Thank you so much for lending them.

Veeral you too should have come, would have been more fun, thanks for the tank bag anyways !

Mayur,George Uncle,Abhilabh,Husain,Rutesh thanks for the spare memory cards and Miitra for the spare batteries.

Viraj and Avinash thanks for the contact of Vivek and Ajay who even at the last moment designed the jugaad cover of saddlebags,it indeed was helpful.

Thanks to Reddy,Janardhan and Imran for the perfect tuning of the bike; and Vishal and Prakash from Bajaj for procuring the new rims and other spares on time.

Thanks to all my colony, school, college, office friends for always believing in me doing such extra-ordinary things!

And last but not the least all my biker friends not just from xbhp but bcmtouring,motoroids,xkmph,60kph,zigwheels,RSA,bik erni association, facebook etc. all over ! Thank you so much for encouraging, inspiring, teaching and for everything! I am incomplete without you all..THANK YOU !

A very good and safe biker not only because he can pop up either of the wheels, scrape his knees on a corner or go fast and make it look stylish but because he very well knows his limits and capabilities and has the patience to learn about others and ride safe ! :)

              Planning

Well most of this part was done by Tushar dada and all we had to do was follow the plan. Tushar dada had been wanting to do this ride for quite long. I dont know for how many years and Nilesh had been there in 2010 but couldnt complete the ride as there was a cloud-burst back then. Also we had friends who had been there before who helped us with the route plan and some important stay options.

It was never a "Dream Ride" for me,the place amazed me and I thought I would go there someday. Never thought it would be this year and on the bike and that too MY BIKE ! I dont know if it just happened or I made it happen, but it was good ! Atleast if the world really ends in 2012 I wouldnt regret that I couldnt go there !

Starting with the route-plan, a rough itinerary was chalked out which obviously is as rough as it seems here as we ended up doing some more places too !

              Our Rough Plan

              Day 1- Mumbai-indore
              Day 2- Indore-ranthambore
              Day 3- Ranthambore
              Day 4- Ranthanbore-amritsar
              Day 5- Amritsar
              Day 6- Amritsar-batala-gurdaspur-kathua-samba-udhampur-ramban-banihal-srinagar
              Day 7- local sight seeing
              Day 8- Srinagar-sonmarg-drass
Day 9- Drass-kargil-khalsi-leh ( *POI: Drass war memorial, sando top, kargil memorial, Lamayaru Monestry, Moon land near Lamayaru )
Day 10- sight seeing, permits etc
              Day 11- Leh-khardung la-hundar/diskit
              Day 12- Hundar/diskit-panamik-khardung la-leh
              Day 13- Leh-Thiksey-Shakti-Tangtse-Chushul/Pangong tso
              Day 14- Chushul/Pangong tso-tangtse-darbuk-shakti-karoo-upshi-gya-pang
              Day 15- pang-gramphoo
              Day 16- gramphoo-chandrataal
              Day 17- chandrataal-tabo
              Day 18- tabo-pooh
              Day 19- pooh-narkanda
              Day 20- narkanda-delhi
              Day 21- delhi-udaipur
              Day 22- udaipur-ahmedabad
              Day 23- ahmedabad-mumbai

But we eventually planned to go to Zhanskar Valley and Spiti Valley too adding 5days for each. Also thought of going to different places in and around Delhi and Rajasthan extending the plan to about 35-40days !

But if everything goes exactly according to the plan, you definitely are not in Ladakh!

Now regarding the bike, which was a very big question for everyone! "You seriously doing this on a 135cc??:O"

I just had one thing in my mind "The ordinary people who live there have been facing so many challenges all the time and I would be just going there for a few days, shouldnt be something I should crib about!"

There are no people born "great" in this world, its just great challenges that ordinary people meet which make them "great" !

Servicing of the bike was an important part to do. Tuning an under-estimated 135cc bike for such a big challenge was a herculean task and it meant calling in some experts! I had full trust in Reddy,Janardhan and Imran and yes they did the job well! They assured me apart from periodic oil changes there wasnt a thing to be done on the journey! Got most of the parts replaced and the bike was again as good as new.

Got brand new Ceat tubeless tyres alongwith new rims which are the most essential thing to get on such a journey. And yes they helped a lot ! Not a single puncture too for the entire 7500kms !

Tushar and Nilesh also got their bike serviced
on time. Nilesh also changed his rear tyre to Sirac but the CBR was still on stock which we wouldnt recommend to anyone after knowing what its current situation is !

Regarding the essential things to be taken I'd made a list which I have lost now but after packing the saddle bags, tank bag and one more bag,it became difficult for me to remember which things have been kept where. So made of note of it in my notepad in which I was temporarily jotting down everything. Will post a picture of it soon.

Regarding bike spares I took only essentials like clutch lever, clutch cable and accelerator cable apart from 3cans of engine oil, entire toolkit,footpump,puncture-removal kit and 3extra tyre-tubes. Since most of the parts on my bike were new I didnt carry any extra sparkplugs, filters etc. And luckily these wasnt any need of any of these. Yes ! Not even a single puncture !

One important and very useful jugaad did on the CBR was the mount for the pizza-delivery box!

However the only jugaad this time on my bike was this..

              PIC

Quietly sneaked out of the house with a pillow from my mom's home decor on the day we left for the journey !

              Coming up..
