        Route: Nako - Tabo
        Distance: 60Km (Approx)
Travel Time: About 2 to 3 hours
Stay: Hotel Siddarth Guest House (Tabo)
        Price: 400 Rs per room

Plan for the day was to do sightseeing around Nako and then leave for Tabo.

Stay at Tabo was not in the initial plan but considering that there was no rafting available in Kaza and also that Kaza to Manali road is in a bad condition we wanted to do the route till Kaza in a very relaxed way.

We started the day at Nako by visting Nako Lake. Frankly we didnt like it much, may be it was not as good as we expected it to be.

We started from Nako by 9am or so. Since we had to travel only about 60Km's today we took lot of pit stops for pics. Posting some of the pics below

Nala Crossing just after Nako on the way to Tabo

        Board reads 4X4 is preferred!

Since we had lot of time today we took lot of photo stops... Enjoy the pics..

Kaza has just one fuel pump, the petrol dispenser machine what they have is pretty old and it does not work from 3pm onwards. Reason what they gave was that fuel pipe gets filled with Gas due to heat and the pump does not pull fuel due to this.

Fuel pump at Kaza is open from 5:30am till 7:30pm.

Locals informed that we do get fuel in the Black market on the way in case if we need but we didnt have the need.

From Manali again fuel pump is available in major cities.
thanks for the info Raven, appreciate it. Your pics are great keep them coming

Route: Tabo - PIN Valley - Kaza
            Distance: 100Km (Approx)
            Travel Time: About 5 hours
            Stay: Spiti Sarai (Kaza)
            Price: 1000Rs per room
            Fuel: Kaza

Plan for the day was leave tabo early in the morning visit PIN - Parvathi Valley and then go to Kaza.

We knew that PIN Valley is very scenic and is a must see but when enquired in Tabo we were told that the road to PIN Valley has been washed away by the river and land slide so we can't cross it by bike.

We were suggested to park our bikes on the river bank, cross the river by boat and then take the taxi n other side to reach PIN Valley.

Since we had to cover only 50Km's today we took the chance.

We left Tabo by 7am and had breakfast on the way. Visiting PIN Valley was more important than see Dhankar monestry so we skipped it. We had a look at it from the highway but we didnt take the deviation.

Some photo shots on the way to PIN Valley

No sign on "Tar" on the road from Tabo to PIN Valley

Dhankar Monestry as seen from the Highway (See top of the hill!)

Washed away road on the way to PIN Valley. What you see in the pics below is the land slide what happened after the road was washed away

We need to walk through this stretch

What you see on the edge of the river is the road.. See the color difference

We had difficulty to walk in this narrow stretch and this champ on the screen took his FZ16 in it!.. For the last stretch he needed some people to help him

This is what you see from the other bank of the river

This monestry offered us free Lunch!

Mudd Village - Last village on the PIN - Parvathi Valley

View on the way to Mudd Valley

            Scenic Isn't it?

On the way to Kaza from PIN Valley

We reached Kaza by 2pm or so.. Kaza is a small town and is very crowded so if you are looking for a nice accomodation outside the town then head to "Spiti Sarai" which is in a place called Rangrik about 5 km's Kaza town.

Pitstop for the day - Spiti Sarai (Rangrik, Kaza)

Route: Kaza - Ki Monestry - Kibber - Kaza
                  Distance: 50Km (Approx)
                  Travel Time: About 2 hours
StayRoute: Kaza - Losar - Kunzum La Pass - Chandratal
                  Distance: 150Km (Approx)
                  Travel Time: About 5 hours
                  Stay: Northan Adventure Tents (Chandratal)
                  Price: 1000Rs per person
                  Fuel: Kaza

It was time to start the return journey back to Manali and we left Kaza with a heavy heart.

Kaza to Manali is approximately 250Km's and there are 2 options to reach Manali from Kaza.

Option 1: Start very early in the morning from Kaza and reach close to Manali by late evening. This option is suitable for more adventurous travelers who are willing to ride long continuous stretches on very bad roads.

Option 2: Take a break mid way either at Batal or Chandratal. Batal does not have much stay options except couple of dhaba's. Chandratal has "Tent" stay option, but choosing Chandratal means you need to take about 10Km deviation from the main road and the road is very very bad!

We choose to stay at Chandratal since option 1 was completely ruled out for us.

PS - We did see a HPTDC rest house close to "Chota Dhara" after Batal so this can also be a stay option mid way.. Building looked incomplete but we did see some people in there.

There is also no fuel pump till manali after Kaza so it is advised to tank it up at Kaza.

After filling the fuel we started at 8pm from Rangrik and the road for about 40Km or so is not as bad as what was described. We did manage to do good speeds. This road for about 50Km from Kaza is very scenic and we took lot of photo stops.. Some of them are below

                  Pit Stop

                  Kunzum - La - Pass

The Gang at Kunzum La Pass

Road after Kunzum - La - Pass

As you start decending from Chandratal about 4 km's before Batal there is a deviation for Chandratal. There is a board put up with the distance and it also mentions "4X4 vehicle is preferred".

                  On the way to Chandratal

Couple of river crossings on the way to Chandratal

                  Out stay at Chandratal

We ended up reaching our Campsite by 2:30pm. Our camps were about 2 km's before Chandratal lake. By the time we had lunch and started for the lake it was close to 5pm.

Chandratal Lake as seen from far off

Chandratal lake is a fresh water (Drinkable) lake unlike Pangong so & Tso mori which are salt water lakes (not drinkable)

                  Chandratal Lake

Way back from Chandratal. Our camps are visible at a distance.. Road from camp site to Chandratal was full off road, with big rocks in the hair pin bends...

@Nagesh - No idea how it was formed. My guess would be due to melting of snow the landscape has taken this shape..

This was on the way to Losar from Kaza and we didnt find anyone around to explain to us what it was!

AFAIK, this shapes are formed by Wind and water erosion..

                              Something similar to my encounter--
