Day 3, Sunday, July 22: Finally the ride begins.
      Jammu - Pathankot - Amritsar

We left Jammu around 6 AM and mind you, it was really hot in the morning as well. As soon as came down the hotel to load the saddle bags, sweat started dripping from our forehead and nosetip. We took a look at the GPS for directions and started riding.

Roads are good, but a lot of diversons. The lush green fields, weird looking auto-rickshaws, restaurant-dhaba first thing in the menu is parantha-dahi-lotta butter...aaha I love Punjab.

Our first break after some 100 kms, had a heavy breakfast here.

      Lush green fields

Somewhere before Amritsar, Sanjay called Viper and told him he managed to get the bike (our hotel owner helped him) and decided to leave Jammu and reach Patnitop by today. We decided to meet at Srinagar the next day.

      Viper talking to Sanjay.

Reached Amritsar around 1.30 PM. Booked a hotel room at new Batala road. We preferred to stay outside Amristar city since we had to leave early morning tomorrow, another reason was we were so irritated by the temperature, didn't had energy to search a hotel in the city.

      Hotel Randhawa International
Near Celebration mall, J & K Road (new Batala Road)
      Amritsar. 143001
      Phone 0183-5002571, 5002573
Cost Rs.1500.00 (with AC, can easily accommodate 4 people)

Map: Jammu to Hotel Randhawa International, Amritsar

On the way to Wagah border, fully deserted roads

      Sign board (pic by Aniruddha)

My first poser pic (by Aniruddha)

Parked the bike, took two lockers for Rs. 40 each, kept helmets, camera bags in the locker (since bags and eatables are not allowed inside, except for water bottles) Took cameras and all set for the Flag retreat ceremony. As soon as the gate is opened, total chaos, the crowd ran like they gonna get medals for coming first.

      Full House at the border.

      Before the gates were opened

      After the gate was opened

      Swarn Jayanti Dwaar

      All eyes

Went up, gotta place, clicked-clicked-clicked. Viper got some damn good shots. Thanks to his 36x optical zoom cam.

Ladies dancing before the retreat ceremony

      Scorching Sun

      Peace

      ----fast forward---
Back to hotel around 7 PM. Took a bath, came down the hotel and took a rickshaw till Golden temple. Thank GOD, we didn't take our bikes, otherwise it would have been hectic since it was Sunday evening. All jam packed roads, devotees, visitors, vehicles all over the place.

Took a walk around the Golden temple, parcelled dinner from McD and off to the hotel. Crashed on to the bed.

P.S. Will edit the post and upload more pics later.

Day 4: Amritsar - Patnitop -Srinagar
      Coming up tomorrow.

              Amritsar - Pathankot - Udhampur - Patnitop - Srinagar.

              Map: Amritsar-Srinagar

Me and Viper started our day at 6, covered as much distance possible in morning hue, the morning was not cool though(same like Jammu), it was hot, felt like the sun was never down. As of now, I will keep the description short and sweet and post more pictures.

              GPS check - Before Udhampur

              Patnitop

Riding through Patnitop was a wonderful experience. Temperature was cool, less traffic, view got better and better with each mile we covered.

              Viper's Sawdhan pose 3

              Viper's Sawdhan pose 4

              Before Srinagar

Except for this place, I did not use my SLR anywhere, used Olympus digicam to click and save time. Viper was on a clicking spree with his point and shoot SLR.

Sanjay-Anuradha reached Srinagar around 1.30 am, booked a hotel near Gol chowk, visited Gulmarg and came back by 6 PM. We reached Srinagar around 8 PM. Sanjay messaged the hotel details to Viper and we found the hotel quite easily (thanks to GPS). Took bath, had food, crashed to bed.

He is just using the pics to pull my leg.
You see most of the time when we clicked photos of each other Sumit always used to give some funky pose (99% of the time thumbs up/"v" with fingers with bike and some background, 1% arms stretching wide as far as possible ) to the point that we all got tired of his "poses".
While Me and Sanjay and Anuradha 99.9% of the time just stood casually for a photo.
All should be evident from this photo.

Day 5, Tuesday, July 24: No Riding Day "The Tourists"

                            Sanjay - The Perfect Tourist

Took two bikes, camera and rode along Dal Lake on Boulevard Road. Had breakfast and without wasting much time we went straight to Royal enfield showroom to repair the damages done by Indian Railway. It took 45 mins to get it done.

Parked bikes in shade and walked to city center, bought camera filters and other stuff, had proper Kashmiri lunch at a Chinese looking restaurant (there were red dragons all over the place with red walls and dim light ).

We had a long list of places to visit in Srinagar but we dropped the idea because of the scorching sun/ superhot afternoon and decided to spend the afternoon in the hotel and take shikara ride in the evening.

                            Boulevard road along Dal Lake

                            Burning afternoon

                            Woodpecker

                            Scenic views all around

Evening was cool and shikara ride was the best thing we experienced in Srinagar. Costs Rs. 300 one hour shikara ride. Saw floating vegetable garden, kabootar khana, flower farm, had famous Kaba (Kashmiri tea) , floating house boats, Dal lake got a small world floating on it.

                            Floating business

Bathing boat - you can dive into the lake from here

Hot air baloon or just a baloon??

                            Evening sun reflection

                            Kabootar khana

                            Perfect couple

Ani - The Perfect Tourist 2

Me (that's John Ibrahim shtyle as per the shikara owner )

The Big guy - rowing boat empty stomach for one hour, don't know how many trips a day (He was fasting coz of Holy month of Ramzan)

                            All in a queue

7.47 PM still broad daylight!! The best thing about North/ Kashmir: Sunrise around 5 AM and Sunset around 8 PM.

                            Colorful Houseboats

Clicked many many pics, asked too many questions to the shikara owner the complete hour. Thanked the guy and landed. Bought clothings, gifts for friends and family, had dinner, topped fuel tank, went to the hotel, studied next days route, packed bags and off to sleep.

                            Coming soon...
