Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

            Twisties on the plains!

            Date: 27.08.2012
            Ride: 'Jade' CBR150R
            Destination: Not really fixed.
            Camera: Nokia 500
Heavily post processed using Lightroom and PS CS3
            Route Map

I got up in the morning and all the previous night I felt restless and sleepless. Am not okay., I know it and I know what to do for it. Finished the morning rituals., went out and looked at her. She smiled at me giving a nod! I know, she too wanted the same. Its around 8 AM in the morning I started out from my home. I reached the main road and let my heart decide the direction of heading. Now, the road chosen, cruising at around 60kmph... I was thinking of a destination at a reasonable distance. Okay., lets reach the foothills of Kodaikanal Ghat section and head back. So, now... destination set., Jade and me is set to roll out for the first ever single ride of her beyond 1k kms.

I know the route as I have traveled in it like a 100 times en-route to my mother's native., but ever in bus. I know the road at this part is smooth, 2-lane, well laid and known for the highly-banked twisties. I enjoyed riding. Rode serenely at around 60-70kmph., re-thinking, implementing, and correcting all those theoretically learned knowledge of cornering and riding. Am happy and excited and so was she.

Went past a couple of local places., and started the roads bordered by farm lands that had just received the first monsoon rains. Stopped by a random spot and noticed I had already traveled 70kms., I should say I never felt like that long.

            Jade resting under shade.

Those farmlands getting ready for cultivation

After sitting there and looking on those passing by vehicles., (actually it was the other way around, everyone stared at me and her!) for about 15 mins, we resumed... The time was around 10 AM and I reached Batlagundu. Had breakfast and meanwhile my dad called me. After knowing my whereabouts., he happily imposed a job of inquiring about my brother's birth certificate for a name change. (Yeah., my mom's place is near there on the old route to Kodai and both me and my bro were born there.)

So, after every job's over., when I decided to start off to the ghats., nature decided the other way around. I sensed the rain approaching and within seconds theres this heavy downpour, and when all of it was over, it is already 2 PM. I had promised my mom, I would be back my maximum 5 PM and so sadly., that was all far we could get to that day.

Return leg started. After a chilling monsoon rain and two-lane traffic-less road, fresh air and a cool mate.. Only a rider would understand this.

            Somewhere returning

Then stopped at a place. It was beautiful. I decided to start off after the rest of 10 mins.. no wait.. 15 mins.. some more time.. i was sitting there doing absolutely nothing for 30 mins except clicking with my Nokia.

So, somehow made up the mind and started from there and serene again. Reached back home at around 5 PM as promised to my mom.

BTW, browsing through the forum., I came to know about HDR, I googled and learned what is it. When sitting at the side of the road, thought of why shouln't I try it with my Nokia., and the bracketed photos are still under processing., I'll post them soon!!

Thanks! Total distance was around 360kms and the average road speed would be ~30 on hills and ~50-60 on highways.

                              2. Ride through Kodaikanal Hills

                              Date: 18/09/2012
                              Ride: Jade
Place: Through the Kodaikanal Hills - Pannaikadu - Thandikudi
Camera: Sony 12M point and shoot.

Those who have read my previous log, would know how i failed to reach the kodaikanal hills in that attempt. So, I have decided it for some other day. And it was, september 18th. Woke up in the morning, and after just having my breakfast, just decided to ride.

Started off from home at around 8:30AM. Told mom that I would be back by 5 or 5:30. Reached Vathlagundu at around 11 AM. It was a swift ride. Couple of customary breaks and no pics. Then, headed toward Kodaikanal. The road towards Theni is under a massive expansion and i missed the cut to Kodaikanal and went around a km ahead and then turned back. The remaining story with the pics.

                              Kodaikanal welcomes you!!

                              Manjalar Dam, some kilometers uphill.

                              Theni Valley.

                              Rat Tail Falls.

                              Then, some random pics...

Then, came across a diversion to Thandikudi. I know this place, but never been there. I have been told its right above my mom's native in the valley., so instead of checking Kodaikanal, My route took a detour. I was also aware that its a circle route and so the advantage of not tracing the same roads in the return leg.

                              Soon after the diversion.

Pannaikadu Vilage was the first one on this route.

Then, came the Thandikudi village. Actually, its a dead end road at the end of the village. Returned, asked for directions, and took a small cut which the locals said is the main route.
Thandikudi village and the locally well- known Murugan Temple at the background.

Then, stopped for a photoshoot besides a huge rock. Sat at the rock for around half-an-hour.
It was heaven. Made phone calls to my best buddies to just know what they are doing.
Not only Coke, but Air too feels good when serve chilled :P
                              Some clicks before starting off!

Then, the reason of my ride. Came to the view point of Maruthanadhi Dam, the one which is at my native village on the foothills of Kodaikanal hills. Its just 30 kms to kodaikanal from there, and around 50 kms to the dam in the photo below. Our coconut plantation is somewhere after the dam! Was much excited to see it from such an elevation.

Then, resumed the ride, and came my double dhamaka!
Riding in hills + Rain = Double Dhamaka!!!
Clicking photos stopped and I was enjoynig each twist on the road with complete excitement, fun, joy and of course safety!!
After the rains stopped and the sky cleared.

                              From inside my helmet!

Then, came this deep gorge. I could hear water gushing at its bottom, but could never spot the base. It was that deep.

Had some more clicks and resumed the ride.

Then, it was a serene downhill. Just took a picture of Sempatti Valley.

Reached downhill by 2:30PM and then NH7. Straight and smooth. Maintianed full triple digits and once I tuck in, its a breeze with my Jade at speeeds of ~115kmph. Good stability at those speeeds and its got hell of control in manuevering at those speeds. No pain in any body parts, except for the numbness in my right thumb. Reached home safely at around 5:30PM.

                              Full photo album
