Those tigers are too used to human beings in jeeps to consider them 'Meals on Wheels'! The guides are never scared of the Tigers, instead they are afraid of elephants, because an open/closed vehicle will not help you if the elephant attacks.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

i've witnessed a tusker going berserk... i was sh|tting bricks & that's putting it too politely...
as for wild life, i wud quote only 1 proverb in marathi "durun dongar saajre" meaning "pahad door se he achchey lagtey hain" ;-)
i wud rather eat tiger prawns sitting in AC rooms @ a Hotel instead of letting a Tiger eat me in his den... thank you very much!

I can understand your shitting bricks moment, we were charged by an elephant when we had gone to Corbett. A female trying to protect her young, since she got threatened by our vehicle!

Thank you!! Yes it was a super sighting otherwise have been to many closed van safari in a small enclosed area, but still not able to see the Tiger in open there. Lucky to see not one but three tigers and that too at such a close distance... TWICE!!

BTW ! I see you are in Open jeep, what if that Tiger atttacks you ? *Out of Curiousity*
As whymail said if the Tiger attacks whatever will be done, will be done by the Tiger. As far as I am concerned I would still try to convince the tiger that I am a vegetarian and he is doing a big mistake have me as his meal :P

well here's a funny dialogue my wife had w/ a guide when we had gone to corbett...
wife: bhaiyya yahan sher bhi rehte hain na?
            guide: ji haan memsaab.
wife: baapre. agar hamare saamne sher aakar khada ho gaya, toh hum kya karenge?
guide: memsaab. agar sher saamne khada ho gaya toh hum kuch nahi karenge. jo bhi karna hain, woh sher he karega!
wife: EEEEKKKSSSS!!! i want go go back to the hotel right now!!! turn back!!!
            me: LOL! LOL! EPIC! ;-)

I had full faith in my guide and was least concerned what the tiger might do. Yes they are wild animals and how they behave at a particular time can not be taken for granted.

I totally agree with you... didn't had any such incident personally but by seeing a Tiger so closely I could feel that its not a threat but I having an elephant at the same place would have really brought shiver in my body.

                  19th March 2013

How easy it is to dream of a Tiger after seeing it but the other way around is quite difficult, i.e. dreaming of seeing a Tiger before actually seeing it. The unreal worldClick image for larger version

I wanted to explore wildlife even more. My expectations were obviously not that of a Tiger or a Leopard. At that time I didn't even though of a Bear but that would also have come in the same list if that thought would have come to me that time.

Luckily such fear did not come true, but when you keep on thinking of such situations and suddenly there is a movement, your heart does come into your mouth. This time it was the Chitals!! No harm done but now after getting quite inside the jungle I was not able to find the way outside the jungle. I kept moving towards the sun and soon found my way out.

                  What a relief!!

With all the new work going around I spend some more time there and by 12:30 I left Moharli. Went to Sarai resort where Michela and Sevario were staying. Just reached there in time as they were also ready with their luggage and were to leave for Nagpur for their flight to Delhi. They were so happy to see me. We exchanged greetings and I was on my way to Raipur.

I had lost a lot of time and rode non-stop almost 200kms. Took lunch by 4:00 pm at a small road side dhaba. Reached Raipur via NH6 by 8:30 pm. Four lane smooth roads with two lanes in the ghaat sections. Checked in at a hotel at Raipur by 9:00 pm.

Total distance covered today : 381 kms
Total distance covered till now : 1363 kms

No Nagzira!! I had filled my quota of Tiger at Tadoba ATR and also came to know that its not like safari at zoo where you can go anytime for a 10 min ride in a cage to see a few caged animals. I was quite tempted to visit Nagzira as It was just few kms from where I passed but after the knowledge I got enlightened and decided not to visit :P

                            20th March 2013

A new State, new morning and the journey continue. Got up at 6:00 am and after getting ready went for a short walk near the hotel.

Came back, geared up and the ride begun towards another State. This time destination was Sambalpur some 270 kms away. The engine roared and I said goodbye to Raipur. After crossing the city, soon I was on the NH6.

Just a few kms from there took a left turn off NH6 to go towards Sirpur. Reason for going there was the 7th century Laxman Temple (dedicated to lord Vishnu) which is considered as one of the finest brick temples of India with a stone doorframe. First discovered in 1872 by Lord Cunningham, the temple is famous for its interesting carvings. Recent excavations have uncovered 12 Buddh Viharas, 1 Jain Vihara, monolithic statues of Buddha and Mahavira, 22 Shiv temples and 5 Vishnu temples.

The list is quite huge but in that heat right in the middle of the day I was just able to visit only few of these. I did not spend much time there, just a few minutes at each points but the sun was always unforgiving and harsh.

First went to the Laxman Temple which is believed to be the only temple dedicated to Lord Laxman. There is also a temple which is dedicated to Lord Ram but it has been ruined. A lot of effort has been made to restore and protect this temple by the Archaeological Survey of India.

As I returned after visiting the temple I saw two police officers near the ticket counter. I was the only tourist to visit this place and my bike parked just outside the premises I started to get into the jacket and knee pad which I had kept at the ticket counter with Ramesh the guy at the counter. As I was gearing up these two policewala came near me and started asking questions like where I was coming from, where I was from, where I am heading to, purpose of my visit and many more questions. Initially I answered, thinking they are asking out of curiosity, as I faced such questions many times during this journey but as the questions kept on coming I asked them why they are asking so many questions. They started asking my bikes registration number the hotel where I last stayed and now they even started noting it down. Now it was time to ask questions from my side enough of answers. I told then why do you need all these information. Then I came to know that they are those stupid people who have been given the job to enquire about the theft of some temple idol which was stolen few days back. When I told them I was just passing by and came to visit this temple on my way to Sambalpur still if they are asking me questions what could I call them other than calling them stupid?
In my opinion, such theft a tourist cannot perform. Instead of harassing the people without any logic and that too in that heat, they should figure out how they can increase their IQ. Least did I knew their intension; otherwise I would not have answered any of their questions.

Soon I left from there and went to visit the Buddha viharas which has been excavated recently. It was really hard to even stand in that heat.

The condition of the road was deteriorating as I was leaving Chhattisgarh. The last few kms were the worse till now. The heat and on top of that the pathetic condition of the road led my frustration to a new high as I entered the State of Odisha. The roads were nice but due to construction of roads on NH6 only one side of the 4 lane road was open for vehicles which were altering from one side to another every few kms.

Reached Sambalpur by 6:30 pm and it was quite dark by this time. As I was moving towards the east it was getting dark sooner. By 7:00 pm I checked in the hotel and the journey which became quite frustrating in the later half came to an end. I went out to enjoy the cool breeze, and to cool myself down. Overall it was quite an adventurous day with extreme heat and rough roads.

Total distance covered today : 314 kms
Total distance covered till now : 1677 kms
How is it possible to feel nostalgia for a world I never knew?

One of the most engrossing Tourer tales I have had the opportunity to go through. Really enjoying the narration till now.

Eagerly waiting for the rest of the details from you as I am from Odisha also.
