Re: Go.. Go... Go.. Gokarna [NSFW]
This ride was planned at least 45 days in advance. Even the dates were finalized. I visited my native in JH in November and doing Gokarna was a burning itch and it needed its Itch Guard the biker way!
Since I'd taken a 21 days leave in November, I'd pretty much exhausted all casual/paid leaves. I had only them weekends.
So, the plan was - 21st Dec and 22nd Dec; I/We/Us will ride to Gokarna.
December has been a packed month for us riders, with most of us having some plans or the other. I was looking for someone to ride along with as 1000+ kms isn't short. It'd be boring alone, plus it could get dangerous.
First of all, I'd thank @phanikar sir for giving me the best advice for choice of stay at/near Gokarna within a logical budget range. I owe you one!
Secondly, big thanks to plasmabhai (Sid) for lending his tank bag.
Riders who couldn't make it due to personal commitments/other issues were - Ashish @seahorses, Harish @harish.krovvidi, Suvrajit @SuvraGanguly.
Needless to say, I was sad. Then on Friday night at 9:30 PM, I get a call from my college mate from Chitradurga (his in laws' place). He said he'd seen my posts on FB regarding some 1k+ kms trip and said he was interested to accompany me in his CAAAAAR (Nissan Sunny). I denied and said I'll use my bike and he take his car. (budget constraints + dependability)
The plan was to meet him in Chitradurga at 7 AM, but not everything goes as planned. I go up late. Could leave home only at around 5:20 AM and Chitradurga would take 2-2.5 ours depending upon the speeds maintained (200 km). God was it chilly!
After riding in the cold and shivering to bits inside my super hot DSG, I stopped at a tea stall at Tumkur toll. Luckily met @Praful and Dee Jay (not sure if he's a member here) there. They were burning some German rubber to glory!
Did I say I was late already? I reached Chitradurga at 8 AM. In the meanwhile, this guy in his excitement had taken out his car and washed it. Then, he went to the petrol bunk to fill it up and punctured both his left side tires. Don't ask me how. When I reached his place, I saw a towing truck leaving the compound after dumping his car there.
I'm glad I'd my bike. My mood was totally put off, but I'd to utilize this weekend.
I left for the destination alone. Chitradurga to Ranebennur is a straight stretch after which I'd have to consult the GPS.
This is the overall route I took.
Soon, I started getting bored and hence stopped to click some.
Well, the pic above is the only pic of mine from the entire trip. Rest simply decided to crop some part of my body or the other. Duh. Some FB quality pics got wasted!
So, I continued on the monotonous highway. I had heard about NH and SH, but here I saw AH marked along side the roads. I was bored and curious at the same time.
Googled it up and found that AH = Asian Highway and its a separate project to improve highway connectivity Asia-wide. Hope I got the correct info here.
Got back on the saddle and reached Ranebennur by 9:30 AM and switched on the GPS. It immediately locked my position and I must say it ditched me only 3 hours later!
The next place I'd to visit was Sirsi. It is a town (historic place in itself - temples, ponds, waterfalls etc) which can be reached by passing 100+ kms of villages.
Clicked at Ranebennur with my phablet ready to become the Navigator.
Obviously, villagers looked at me as if I were an alien. So many lefts and rights, the lady's voice from my phone could be heard every 2-4 mins shouting directions. I love Google Navigation. Though MMI's Sygic worked well too when GMaps went offline later!
I'd done about 35 kms in the bumpy roads when I felt I needed another break. So I got down and started clicking. One of the clicks from that stop.
Had coconut water from here after my photo shoot and left. It was now getting hot and as promised, my DSG ensured I got cooked.
Roads were in pretty bad condition. I remember Ashish @seahorses asking me NOT to take SH, but go all the way till Hubli and then continue to Gokarna, but; I being me, the lazy me. Now, my bike was cursing me. Soon, *better* roads (good by no standards) started and I eased a bit. I had done about 311 kms from BLR when a Bolero overtook me from the left like whooosh!
It was fast and it disappeared leaving a smoke of dust all the way till the next 2 km or so. About 7-8 kms later, I could see it again in front of me (he was far though, but visible). He'd slowed down for some reason. I was doing 40's and still I was right behind him in the next 5 min. Now the roads got tarred and this guy was doing less than 40. I attempted overtaking him twice but I couldn't. Suddenly he sped to 60+ speeds and I fell behind. Fine, I was ok with it. I had barely followed him for 2 min when his SUV abruptly skids and spins almost by a 90 degrees and goes off road.
I panicked, but downshifted a couple of gears and prepared to hit both brakes for the unknown enemy, but I was already skidding on the road with my bike moving away from me.
It went approx 15 feet away before it stopped. I knew my leg was hurt.

Naah the helmet is fine. It only has scratched. At max, I'd need a new visor.Originally posted by rreneav1987 View PostNice teaser bro.. I guess it was worth it. Thank God you are alright. ride safe and take rest. waiting for more pics like the teaser pic from you

Also, I use SOL helmet only while touring. I have a Vega DOT and a Steelbird SB28 (all full face ones) for city commutes.
Thanks to the riding gear, I was fine. Though a bit disturbed mentally at that time.
EDIT - @chaosaddict, rreneav1987, teaser type pics in the next post.

Re: Go.. Go... Go.. Gokarna [NSFW]
So I'd taken a fall.
I came to my senses realizing that I was part of a bigger scene. The Bolero had lost its axle. Anyways, he was a bad driver too. I realized I was going too fast and followed him too close. Now what exactly caused me fall?
This!
It was loose and over 3 feet in height and covered the entire road!
I fell for basically a villager's mistake compounded by various factors like following the SUV closely and not been able to see the danger ahead.
Anyways, I picked my ego up and dusted myself. Time to ride ahead. The gear shift lever was bent and shifting was a P.I.T.A. Got it mended nearby.
The destination for me was Kumta, about 30 kms from Gokarna. I had taken a fall near Sirsi. So I had 50 kms more to reach the hotel.
Reached the hotel at about 2 PM. Hotel Pandurang International. I'd pre booked the room. At 728 rupees for 2 people, its quite VFM. (Non AC).
Took a hot water bath and had lunch in the hotel itself. 55 rupees wala meal.
Now, time to head to Gokarna and its beaches.
View near the hotel.
At the diversion to Om beach.
Time for some eye candy! NSFW area starts! Make sure nobody is peeping (for office goers)
@chaosaddict, @rreneav1987, @seahorses - some pics that I did NOT share earlier. (FB)
Lots of people were taking a nap in the shade.
Moving ahead, I thought I'd come to a foreign land.
This girl reminded me of Katrina's character Laila from ZNMD.
Now, the temperature was soaring very high and I made the mistake of taking a boat ride to Paradise beach!
Why mistake?
Scroll down!
Then, I made my way to Half Moon beach but sadly every nook and corner was full/booked and tourists were showing affection publicly. Had to scoot off from there ASAP!
Came back to Om beach to take a few more shots, when I saw her!
Meet Claudia from UK. She rode a GTR 250R to Gokarna. Wonder how she got one(rent) when they sell so less!
Nice friendly girl. We had some chit chat about our native places and then bikes. This happened over a cup of coffee.. Ha ha.. A small date with a firangi!
