<< Fresh post-trip updates, photos and travelogue in page 6 >>

Rough plan - Sikkim, Bhutan, Assam and Arunachal spread over a few weeks.

Leaves - approved. thanks to my bosses at office and home for grating me this leave of absence. You will be suitably rewarded for this generous gesture.
Tickets - booked and confirmed [train to siliguri, return by flight]
Packing - almost done. We all know that we pack until the last minute, don't we?
Bike - of course ready! and put in parc ferme until Saturday.
Accomodations - on the go, I hope to figure out.
Countdown - With less than a week to go, there are some nerves. But hoping to control them.

I will also use this post to ask a few questions as I move along. I am not carrying a laptop, so pics are usually from mobile until I return home. Hopefully my DSLR Canon 1100 and Sony Action Camera will bring back some nice landscapes and action.

All the essentials spread out before packing

Congratulations on the trip, have subscribed and looking forward to your updates.

Wish you a safe and fun filled road ahead.

P.S: if you haven't left already might I suggest you repack your claw, by the looks of the picture, it seems that the weight is unevenly distributed. The claw behaves funny that way even on proper flat roads

I m carrying a heavy foot pump in the middle of the claw. I ride a Hero Impulse, so that way I don't let the claw dig into the high-rise exhaust.

              Plan : Mar 22 - Apr 14.

I wont be able to provide live updates as I am travelling without laptop. Hope to provide tidbits from my mobile if possible.

                Re: Lonely Cloud

My eventful bike trip began now without my bike! Yes . Thanks to indian railways.. I had to board the train to siliguri without my bike. My bike had to be loaded in howrah mail amidst chaos and is now headed to howrah. Therefore i had to bushwack through the maze of local trains with my heavy luggage onto a nice neighbourhood in kolkata. Ballygunge!!! Opposite to Birla mandir.

Hopefully, I ll be able to reunite with my impulse at howrah tomorrow and together take the shatabdi to NJP. My broken hindi and non existent bengali aside...kolkata folks are very friendly.

I m enjoying myself here despite the initial setbacks. After all nature and god intended me to stretch my legs first before the tough ride ahead.

So far, I visited the birla mandir, emptied the shelves in a haldiram, had a great breakfast at an upmarket cafe... planning to buy some gifts for my family later today in Park Street. Kolkata folks are welcome to contact me / post here on what to do in kolkata.

                    Re: Lonely Cloud

I walked quite a bit today. I did some Park street shopping, sent gift parcel home (I travel light), went to sikkim house and got an official map, walked to Victoria memorial and took some pics and video...nothing dramatic.

                        Re: Lonely Cloud

                        The reunion:
There are 27 platforms in howrah station. I know because I walked them like a dog looking for a bone. I found my bike finally tucked between platform 16 and 17..without much of hindi or bengali. The bike's front brake lever is gone (I have a spare).

After a harrowing wait, my bike filled the final space in the luggage van that the door rubbed the tail plastic. Now I am relaxing first class shatabdi ambience. After the breakup and reunion, everything seems better. The music sounds sweeter, the scenery greener, the sun feels cooler, the men more friendly, the women seem prettier, heck! even the shatabdi food tastes good!

In all the melee, I couldn't take a pic of howrah bridge. Which jerk goes to kolkata and returns without a bridge pic?
