A Brand New Day! - Exploring Meghamalai

We woke up earlier than expected (around 08:00 am) the next morning. Got freshened up and the very first thing I wanted to do is rush outside with camera in my hand and click some early morning photographs. What I click was this.

It was quite chilly in the morning so we put our gears on and got ready to go around the small town. We asked the caretaker of the guest house about the places to visit around Meghamalai and then left from the guest house.

Few Kms down the road, we stopped by the breathtaking view of the tea estates along the hills. I would not waste any more time explaining every detail of the ride through the beautiful tea estates, rather would let the pictures do the talking.

Our destination was the highest point in Meghamalai named Maharaja view point. At one diversion, we asked the locals about the road that leads to the destination and continued on the road being directed to. All along the road condition was pretty much bad with off-road to no road at places, through the tea gardens. After sometime, we noticed a small stream flowing alongside us. What a lovely sight it was when we reached a small bridge connecting both the banks of the stream. We stopped at the bridge to click some pictures.

Moving on, we made our way slowly uphill, and to our joy, there were tea gardens all around us. This time they were more scenic gardens on rolling hill slopes.

Mesmerized by the beauty of the rolling tea estates, we spent some time there, feeling the cool breeze on our face. That feeling can not be explained by just words, such amazing it was. Few Kms further, we ended up at a reservoir, the Eravangalar Dam. There was pin drop silence around, a place worth spending few hours and enjoy the beauty of nature. I pulled out my camera again, and started shooting.

We asked a local there about how far is the Maharaja view point from the Dam and we got to know that it is another 1 Km. So, spending some quality time admist the greenary, we continued on our way towards the view point.

Brilliant pics Dada and narration needs no mention.

Feeling the cold breeze instead of city pollution would have been so awesome experience.
Now this makes me think how much I miss even though I live in the Himalayas.

        Ride safe and have fun.

yes, lakes had less water, it is worth a visit after the monsoon as well to get the best experience I guess

                      And the surprise continues..

We rode for another 1 Km uphill from the dam, just to be mesmerized again! This was the viewpoint we were riding to and surely we felt like a Maharaja from there. The pictures go below.

We ended up spending a good 1 hour or so at the very location, every minute the landscape kept on changing, sometimes we had clouds covered all around, and the next minute, all of that was gone and we could see the clear blue sky. None of us wanted to go back, but..

Anyways, spending the best 1 hour of our trip at that very place, we decided to ride back to the guest house because it was already 11:00 am in the morning and we had to reach back to Bangalore by night. It was time to put the camera off for some time and save some time while going back to the guest house. But, such was the beauty of the nature that you ought to stop at places and get the feel of the surroundings. So, while coming back to the guest house, even I could not resist to stop at few places and get some shots for the travelogue.

We quickly started packing once we reached the guest house and within 12:30 pm, we checked out, went to the nearby hotel to have lunch (we did not have breakfast in the first place and we completely forgot about it until hunger struck us!). A heavy and quick meal quenched our hunger and we were on our way to Bangalore by 1:00 pm. There were some places on the way back where we had pre-planned to stop because while coming to Meghamalai yesterday, but we were in a hurry to get a accommodation for us, so had to skip them.

We crossed the Hiwavvy mountains, again, lush green and full of tea plantations all along. So, as decided, this time we stopped and click few pictures of this place.

Then the downhill ride began for us. The off road made us difficult to climb down with speed and we could maintain only 20s maximum all along. However that did not stop us from enjoying the beauty of the nature around us and whenever we got a chance to stop, we did end up stopping and take some pictures.

It took good one hour to reach the base of the hills. And finally we hit the turmac! Such a feeling it was! As if our steeds were the happiest of all . We started off after a short break, destination Dindigul. All along the way, we could see the mountains on our left, covered with clouds, but this time a different scene all together and that compelled me to stop and take a picture as well (my riding mates were starting to get pissed at me now )

I quickly put the camera inside and continued on towards Dindigul. The road condition was known to us and it did not take much time for us to cruise on the fresh tarmac at a speed of 90s. Though, we were slowed down at places by some traffic, we were at the Dindigul before sunset. We inched towards the highway and pulled over near the junction to take some sun set shots.

Few minutes were spent at this very spot and some of us went ahead to get fuel from a fuel station nearby. Once the clock struck 06:00 pm, we started our final leg towards Bangalore. We expected some traffic as we approach Bangalore, being a Sunday. But that was far way down the highway, first target being Salem. It feels so amazing to witness the Sun set over the horizon in front of you, when you are in an open highway! It was time for me to be a spectator and witness the magic of nature. We three were able to maintain a speed of 100+ on this highway, being a good 4 laner. We were near Salem in close to 1 hour 30 minutes when we pulled over to a tea stall to boost ourselves us with some fresh tea. Some pictures which I took here.

In no time we reached Salem and as expected we were hit by heavy traffic going towards Bangalore. We hence decided to have dinner at the Kamat restaurant which was around 50 Kms from the Salem toll booth and let the traffic pass a bit. Big trucks and buses were ruling the highway and we had no way but to overtake few from the left and it was turning out to be risky.

We stopped at Kamat for dinner. A good dinner made us feel happy and relaxed, as we let the traffic thin out a bit.

We talked among ourselves and we finalized our next stop to be at the Electronics City, Bangalore. The traffic did thin out a bit, but more we neared the garden city, more was the traffic. There was no point of taking another stop and hence all three of us carried off from there. The next 2 hours, we were overtaking buses, trucks, fast cars until we reached Hosur as the clock was ticking at 11:00 pm. We pushed ourselves a bit further and were at the Electronics City by 12:00 am. The last leg costed our strength and we three were dead tired. Nonetheless, a picture was deserving, a last picture to end the trip and to end the travelogue as well.

thank you for the kind words ..i have very less off road pictures indeed..it is difficult to have a camera in the tank bag when you are off roading and that is the reason why there are lesser number of off road pictures
