• [Photo Feature]: And The Search For Rain Continues...Meghamalai: Where Clouds Kiss Earth Mommy!

Prologue

The monsoon is fast approaching. Not an evening passes by with drizzle to heavy showers making it difficult for me to commute back home from office. And hell are the traffic jams in a fast moving city like Bangalore. Just when the things were on the verge of getting crazy, one fine morning my good friend/brother Sauban Ahmad showed an urge to go out somewhere. It was not long ago I went for the Kudremukh ride and Sauban missed it by a whisker. I happily agreed to this idea of riding in the coming weekend because I was anticipating the upcoming ride to be a monsoon ride. I asked jeevan.life to accompany us as well as he also showed interest to ride somewhere in the upcoming weekend.

I started browsing through the internet, ran through blogs, travel experiences, whatever I can to come up with a place to visit during the pre-monsoon season, where I can smell the wet soil and can feel the fresh shower on my face. Days went by but nothing attracted me, no, not even a bit. Suddenly, 4 days before the ride, I stepped onto a travelogue about Meghamalai. The place seemed perfect! With tea plantations everywhere, and with clouds flying past over them, it was exactly what I was looking for, and if it rains, my weekend would just be perfect! Went ahead to both Sauban and Jeevan and they promptly agreed over the destination. So, here goes the routemap.

The route seemed pretty much straight forward, however, when I tried to gather more information in the internet about the Meghamalai trail from Theni, I came to my observation that the trail in and around Meghamalai were merely trails, where roads were not existent at all. Anyways, excited, as always, I was waiting for the weekend to come.

Riders who participated along with me in this adventure:

1. Sauban Ahmad a.k.a. Sauban and he rides a Red Yamaha R15 V2.0
2. jeevan.life a.k.a. Jeevan and he rides a Red Honda CBR 250R
3. Lastly, me and as usual I was supported by my Aphrodite, a.k.a. a Red Bajaj Avenger 180

The rest of the week flew by and finally it was Friday. We had already decided to meet up at my house in Koramangala around 02:30 am, Saturday from where we would start our ride. Finished off early from office and came home to do some quick packing and get some much needed sleep. By 10 pm I was dead sleep and I do not remember a thing until my alarm woke me up at 01:30 am. I started getting ready and in the meantime Jeevan message me saying he is already on his way to my house. Such a punctual chap, eh! (or I would say he did not get sleep because of the excitement? )

So, anyways, all said and done, let me share some teaser pictures that can attract the moderators out there to approve this tlog soon

And The Ride Started..

Leg 1

Just as the clock struck 02:00 am, I heard the sound of engines outside my house gate. I was almost prepared as well, so it did not take much time for me to gather myself together and rush towards my steed. Checked with the other guys if they have filled up the steeds already, just to be sure you know. Just when we were about to start, a police patrol jeep approached us and two curious heads came out, asking what is going on. Jeevan explained them what we are upto and where we are going. Half satisfied, the jeep started rolling down the empty illuminated streets.

So, all set, we kick off our ride.

I simply love night rides! Cool breeze gushing in through my helmet visor, with a soothing music track, this is what I live for, yes! Till Electronics City, we kept our steed speed at check, and since I was leading, I was seeing the other two steeds showing an urge to rip off (such was the excitement! ). Anyways, once we crossed the Electronics city elevated highway, we found ourselves in the middle of a beautiful pitch dark highway. Now, we increased our speed to a reasonable 100 with less to no traffic around us. It was pre-decided by us that the first stop would be at Krishnagiri, for tea. The highway is good all along till Krishnagiri, with some flyover construction happening in parts at Hosur and Shoolagiri along with road widening work at places. Thanks to the less traffic we did not face any difficulty in cutting through the trucks and buses and make our way into the dark highway.

By 03:15 am we were at Krishnagiri and we pulled over at a local tea stall to quench our tea-thirst . It was time for me to pull out my camera as well and click some first pictures of our ride.

Sauban is all smiles..

A short break and then we continued our leg towards Salem, our next stop. Further in the highway from Krishnagiri, the traffic thinned out more, and we took each of the lanes and started riding together, worth an experience! I now switched to fast tracks for my ears and that added to the pleasure I must say. A smooth sail for us all the way till Salem made us reach there by 04:00 am! We stopped at our usual stop near the Salem toll booth, where Jeevan wanted some more tea .

We started off from the tea stall once I was done shooting the pictures. We decided that the next stop would be only at sunrise and not before that. Three of us blazed past the sleeping city of Salem and took the right on the flyover towards Madurai. Having past experience on this part of the highway, I knew it was more scenic and since we would be travelling on this road during the morning, it was going to be a treat for sure. We had to be careful of the small towns though which were located at the junctions all along the highway.

Anyways, few hours into the ride and we saw the Sun rays coming out from behind the hill. It was time for us to look for a nice place to take some early morning shots. Jeevan took the lead from me and he went ahead looking for that place. Few Kms ahead, we three pulled over. The early morning snaps goes below.

Satisfied with some early morning shots, we continued our ride towards Dindigul. The temperature was now rising, and we were starting to feel the heat. Three of us wanted some shower and that was one of our sole purpose of riding this weekend, but alas! Nonetheless, we kept our hopes up and concentrated on the job at hand . Few Kms into Karur and we crossed the Cauvery bridge, it was really shocking to see the entire river dried up! We crossed Karur and pulled over crossing the toll booth for some pictures.

We wrapped up the cameras and quickly resumed our ride again. Reached Dindigul in another few minutes and took the NH 45 towards Theni. It was around 08:00 am we all three were started to feel hungry. This highway was no more a 4 lane, but a two lane. Although there was less traffic at this hour, but we had to keep our eyes open. So, we decided to finish off our breakfast before we resume our next leg. We stopped at the next village and saw some snacks being prepared. We did not think much about the quality or the type of food, so without second thoughts, we ordered what was available.

End of Leg 1, Leg 2 to come soon..
