I've seen the crash video, and it seems like the rider could have avoided the crash if he braked hard, then turned hard, before he ran out of road. This is what I did out of reflex at night on a sharp corner on ECR.

      Is this a good practice?

Thanks and well said. From my personal experience the recovery is the most painful part as it is a long drawn out affair and if you experience that longing to get back in the saddle is like an itch that is dying to be scratched. Ha!

        Cheers.

I really cant comment on whether it is or not a good practice, but I can certainly tell you that whatever worked for you that night makes you one lucky guy.

Not nearly as bad as the one inside the stupid cast.

          Cheers.

This is what my arm looked like just after the accident. There were two fractures, the first a clean break in the middle of the arm and the second near the elbow. For folks who wish to consult/treated by a very good Orthopedic Surgeon, I can recommend Dr. Anshu Sachdev who practices at Ruby Hall hospital amongst others.

That's a separated bone. How long did the doctor say before full recovery? Attached metal plates or clamps?
              Cheerio!

The fracture near the elbow has united and took approximately 3 months. The seperated bone is taking its own sweet time and the doctor says a minimum of 6 months for it to unite, so I am hopeful that in August the doctor gives me the green light to ride again. The area where some bone grafting was done to fill the gap within the seperated bones has also healed. The surgery involved putting a titanium plate with screws to hold everything in place.

A rare rain free Sunday had me out for a ride to Wai with Gurpratap after a break of five months. Needless to say, the feeling was awesome and unparalleled to anything I have experienced over the last few months battling doctors, pain and medicines. The stretch of highway between Pune and Wai are now strewn with bad roads due to construction of flyovers coming up every few kilometers which forced us to keep the throttle down, but on the way back, we ticked off some exhilarating high speeds. The first half-hour or so was a little tentative for me as I was getting used to being back in the saddle as well as getting a feel for the bike. The brakes and tyres lacked 'feel' which got back progressively as the ride wore on. As we had left a little later than our usual time at 8.45 am we returned at 11.45 am with my elbow hurting a little bit but which was fine after some siesta in the afternoon. We also rolled some video footage on the return leg which I shall combine with some other rides and post at a later date. Someone at the breakfast stop asked us, "arre this camera, what is it for." Ha!

Decided not to wait for future rides as who knows when those may happen due to most weekends nowadays being washed out with rain. So check out the video titled "Back in the Ring."

This set of pictures is from a ride Sunday, July 31 where Gurpratap and I rode off to Ahmednagar amidst an overcast morning. Ahmednagar which is locally referred to as Nagar because the state government at some point in time decided to drop the name Ahmed in all its wisdom and perhaps for lack of anything constructive to do. We met up at Vimanagar at 7am and proceeded towards Ahmednagar which lies at a distance of 125 km from Pune. A quick fueling stop for the Bonneville and chai stop enroute and we were well on our way along dry roads and fast sweeping turns that this ride had to offer. We stopped around 30 km before Ahmednagar to change the camera position and grab another cup of tea after which we encountered a little rain and yes, the first signboard welcomed us with the full name of the city. Ahmednagar is home to Meher Baba's ashram and is also known as Meherabad. On the return leg we rode back to Vimanagar without stopping where we halted at 11am for some delicious south indian snacks. Our tummies full and our souls happy after a satisfying ride, we said our goodbyes and I rode on to visit Anji Mehra for a short while thereafter. This was a different sort of ride from the usual places we go to and is highly advisable to attempt only on a Sunday because otherwise there is a lot of traffic due to numerous industrial areas which dot the highway. Do check out the video and I hope you enjoy it.

Separately, riding buddy JP Singh has opened his store which stocks various brands of motorcycle gear and also houses his touring company Motomonks. Do drop in and check out the store for your biking requirements. I also made a quick dash one day to Ducati and checked out the 959 Paningale, which is a superb bike no doubt but track oriented. We were not able to ride last weekend as it was raining cats and dogs with many landslides, mudslides and generally awful conditions prevalent.

This set of pictures is from a 500 km round trip ride to Solapur and back to Pune on Monday Aug 15. We set out at 7.30am amidst an overcast sky and hit NH 65 pretty soon into the ride. We kept a relatively slower speed than what we are usually used to as Gurpratap was running-in his new Triumph Thruxton R. The road from Pune to Solapur is almost tolled throughout and is butter smooth with clear markings and run off areas for heavy vehicles. We stopped en-route to Solapur for vada pao and tea and then later on for fuel. The terrain offers wide open vistas of green fields and hills in the distance. There were a few lakes which were filled with water, one off which we stopped at to take a few snaps. On the return leg we encountered heavy headwinds which lasted throughout the ride back. We stopped for lunch at a Kamats restaurant which also had a non-veg place next to it. We tucked into some delicious river fish (sourced from the nearby lake/river), chicken masala, dal and dahi vada. We then proceeded to reach home at 4pm. We thoroughly enjoyed our maiden ride to a new destination and look forward to many more.
