Day 6

After a rather large breakfast of toast, eggs and tea we loaded the bikes with our luggage and bid farewell to our host Goody at Sama Farms around 9.30 am

We stopped at the Kodaikanal Lake to take a couple of pictures before winding out of the hill station.

As we began winding down the hills towards the plains, we stopped to take some more pictures

After we hit the plains the weather turned very warm and I quickly ditched the sweater and thermal liner from my riding jacket. We rode past some busy towns and stopped for some cold refreshment a little after Theni. A few kilometers after Theni we took a right turn off the highway and pointed the bikes towards Munnar. These are some pictures from that climb up past Bison Valley to Munnar in Kerala.

This newly wed couple had come along with a professional photographer in tow to shoot some memories.

A little further on we stopped again to take a few more pictures. The sprawling lush green hills, lakes and beautifully smooth curved roads were a treat. Have a look.

We rode past the entrance to Munnar town and continued straight on the Munnar - Kochi highway to reach our hotel The New Whispering Meadows.

After unpacking and settling in we settled by the gazebo just outside our rooms for a leisurely tasty meal and some chilled beer.

The next morning we awoke 'aaram se' and headed out for a day's ride to Matupetty lake. We had previously done this ride on one of our trips earlier but nevertheless one cannot get enough of the beauty that this region is surrounded with.

After crossing the lake and a little further up we stopped for breakfast of egg roast and only one kerala paratha. There were a large number of youngsters out on their bikes and they had devoured almost all the restaurant guy had on offer.

We returned back to Munnar town rather early and then decided to get our bikes washed. A little bit of asking around and we were told that the best washing center was in Adimali which was around 30 km past our hotel on the Kochi highway. This was music to our ears, and we gunned the engines to fly past our hotel and encountered some of the best twisties that we have experienced in the Nilgiris.

It is always a good feeling to see one's bike looking 'chaka chak'

The next morning we left Munnar at around 7 am and rode down towards the twisty, smooth roads past Adimali, Nellikuzhi. Kuthukuzhy and in the general direction towards Chalakudy. We stopped to meet a colleague's father of Gurpratap at Angamaly.

The ride for the day as you can see below was through Athirappilly Falls and then through the Forest Reserve to Valparai. This was a ride we had been attempting for the last couple of years but due to some reason or the other like demonetization and the Kerala floods it wasn't possible to do so.

A little further on we took a right turn and as someone suggested a shortcut via Mookkannoor Ezhattumugham Road which would avoid Chalakudy but let me tell you this was a bad idea as the roads were really bad for about 12 kms and slowed down the ride. Nevertheless we rejoined the Chalakudy Ahthirapally road which was well paved and arrived at the checkpoint by around 1 pm. Here we had to obtain passes, go through a lot of red-tape and finally got the permissions to go ahead. Here are some pictures from the stop at the check point and the waterfalls.
