Re: Weekend Rides Around Kolkata
Originally posted by krishna77 View PostHello everyone, I’m here with a new thread which caters to information regarding short rides in and around Kolkata. People in Kolkata know that we have less choices and lesser varieties when it comes to short biking destinations. Also, despite being the only state in India linking the Himalayas with the sea, there are very few travelogues for West Bengal. But, there are numerous places which are relatively unknown but can still quench the thirst of a biker. This way we will be able to help each other with new destinations. It’d be great if other members residing in other parts of West Bengal can chip in with their versions.
Some things we need to follow before posting our short travelogue –
Please post logs for only those places which can be covered in a day. For more detailed/elaborate logs, you can post your own log. Distances should be within ~ 200 km.s.
Complete information should be there. Like screenshot of route-maps, actual distance from starting place, alternate routes, emergency phone numbers, information of at least one hotel. We can make this thread the single point of contact for people looking for similar information.
We need to complete one log within maximum 2 posts so that log remains crisp yet informative.
A reasonable number of pictures taken throughout the trip.
No links to external websites. Please. This is our passion and wouldn’t it be better if we let people who are looking for similar information come to us rather than redirecting them to some commercial website? Authenticity is must.
And please do not post any trips on cars err cages!
Enough of talking. Let’s act. For a start, I’ll post the details of Taki - Hasnabad after the thread is approved.
Members, please contribute with your opinions and of course words and pictures!__________________________________________________

Re: Weekend Rides Around Kolkata
Thanks for approving the thread.
Here it goes.
Taki-Hasnabad is a one of the most prominent places in North 24 parganas. Apart from being the location of important administrative departments, this place is also a popular tourist destination. Thousands flock the banks of Ichhamati river in Taki during 'picnic season' and during the immersion of Goddess Durga. The distance between Taki and Hasnabad is a mere 2 km.s. Both are border towns with Hasnabad also being the terminal station of Sealdah-Hasnabad railway link. One can easily call Hasnabad the 'Gateway to the Sunderbans' as after crossing the river in Hasnabad, you can reach up to Hemnagar in Sunderbans. But that's a different story.
You can find the detailed description of the same in the link provided in my signature. This area is well connected by Taki road which in turn extends up to Hasnabad ferry ghat.
The popular route is via Dum Dum Airport-Barasat-Taki. Once you reach Taki more in Barasat, you need to take a right turn to Taki road and you are good to go. The first 10-12 km.s are very densely populated. After that, traffic is comparatively less. But, one has to be very careful as this is a two-lane state highway and being on the wrong lane is a more common practice here than being on the right lane.
Overall the road condition is good barring a few potholes here and there. And there are a few high road bumps within the first 5 km. of Taki road which might catch you under-prepared.
Once you reach Taki, park your bike near the riverside(the riverside is a good 1.5 km. from the Taki road). you can take a boat-ride on the river Ichhamati. The other side of the river is Bangladesh. While on the boat, the dilapidated state of the erstwhile Rajbari(royal palace) can be seen.
Some photos now. Keeping it short and simple. Pics were mostly taken on a chilly morning!
This one is taken from the other side of the river at Hasnabad.

Route Map :
Apart from the Taki road via Barasat. One can also take the the Minakhan route via Basanti highway. In fact for anyone from south Kolkata/south Howrah, this route would be better.
Another option is via Rajarhat-Haroa.

Re: Weekend Rides Around Kolkata
Unfortunately there are almost no such shops here. Still give me some time so that I can try to find out. We have a G2G on 8th March. I'll ask other members whether they know about any such rental services or not.A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Re: Weekend Rides Around Kolkata
@CH03l7263 .. Bro I have searched and enquired extensively for motorbike rental services here. But, could not find any. Seems this area has a serious business proposition in Kolkata.
But, if I ever come across any, you'll be the first person to know that!Last edited by krishna77; 04-16-2015, 01:44 PM.A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Re: Weekend Rides Around Kolkata
Posting on this thread after a long time.
Went to the Kalyani Bridge(on the Ganges) this weekend. Route was via Jessor Road-Madhyamgram-Kalyani Expressway. Distance approx 47 kms. People coming from the west(BT road) can get to the Kalyani Expressway from Belgharia/Sodepore/Barrackpore.
Not much to be seen but still a good weekend ride. Road is comparatively narrow but mostly smooth with a few potholes in between. A number of fisheries line the road.
Road is busy till Barrackpore - after that the traffic becomes a little light. The view from the bridge is awesome. And with open fields and swamps around the place,
air is pretty cool! Caught up with rain while returning - but the experience was awesome. Only stopped while the downpour got too heavy. Recommended for a short 3-4 hour ride.
