Before starting my log, today i would like to say something about how riding/touring came into my life. Around 3 years back when i was in kolkata i use to see my brother's riding pictures and i use to assume why is he doing this, but at the same time I use to love going through each and every picture. Frankly speaking i never had that enthusiasm regarding big bikes or cars. But i always follow one old adage: ONCE YOU TRY IT-IF YOU LIKE IT-YOU ARE NEVER GONNA LEAVE IT. So here I am, around 2 years back i had my 1st riding experience, although it was a small breakfast ride but that day i realised, this is happiness and i always wanna be happy.

Coming to the log part, IT WAS A COMPLETE OFFBEAT EXPERIENCE AND I CAN PROUDLY SAY THAT I HAVE DEFINITELY DONE ATLEAST ONE ADVENTUROUS THING IN MY LIFE. The experience of riding to the world highest orthodox tea plantation was very contrasting as comapred to my past ride experiences. I have done off roading in past but this experience was completely different, especially with two great riding partners @suvrajit and @jeevan. Definately riding has made me in touch with wonderful people.

Although i don’t scribble much but this time i will try to address in details once the blog is approved. Few teaser pics.

                      Re: Feat Kolukkumalai

                      Brief:

I was out from riding/touring from past 4 months because of some medical reason. Sometime around February i went to @suvrajit asking whether he has any plans for any overnight ride because the riding bug already started itching me. Few days later he came out with a location named Alamparai fort Tamil Nadu. We discussed our plan with @jeevan but unfortunately after few research we came to know that there is nothing much to see at Alamparai fort and the climate is gonna be too harsh that time. The location was cancelled but don’t be sad the plan was still on because WHERE THERE IS DADA THERE IS WAY. He came with a very interesting destination seemed to be very less explored. Keeping the weather in mind we decided to explore KOLUKKUMALI this time.

Let me tell you something about KOLUKKUMALAI:
Kolukkumalai is about 7,900 ft above sea level and you can have some excellent views of the far off plains in the bordering State of Tamil Nadu. The distant hills slipping in and out of the mist is a captivating sight. It is about 38kms from munnar city. The place is only accessible by jeep. (Incase if u don’t have your bike or if you are not trekking)

Coming back to the log part.
We were now set with the location part but dates were still tentatives. Few days later the dates were also decided. Suvrajit Ganguly went ahead and booked the stay for 11-12 April at Silver Mount Homes, Suryanelli. Please note, there is no stay at Kolukkumali because its the name of the top. One need to arrange stay at Suryanelli if you are planning to have a overnight stay.

                      Ride day1:
10th April around 2:30a.m I left my place and went towards the meeting point which was dada’s house where jeevan and dada were already waiting for me with all saddle set and ready to roll. Around 2:40a.m we started the ride. According to plan we had decided to take very few breaks so that we can reach the destination soon and explore the place more. As we started late night we decided to take a quick tea break at Attibele instead of Krishnagiri. After a small break we directly head towards Salem. The feeling of being back on saddle, wind passing through the visor with best tracks in iPod, the feeling was out of this world. We took a break at salem, had coffee, did some night photography and headed towards Dindigul chasing for the first glimpse of sun. Around 6:30a.m we stopped at the corner to capture the sunrise. The weather was very refreshing till now. After clicking few sunrise pictures we resumed the ride, but soon we realised that instead of going towards Dindigul we were moving towards coimbatore. We did some extra 30–40kms but we were back on track and had our breakfast stop somewhere near Dindigul. A good break of 30 minutes and we were back on our saddles. We were happy because till now we were on time as per the schedule. Around 10:30 a.m we were crossing Theni and now the heat of Tamil Nadu was rising. Meanwhile we took some small breaks. After crossing Theni we took a right diversion and now we were on Kochi-Dhanushkodi Rd. Here starts the ghat section. People going to Munnar from Dindigul side takes this road. The roads are newly constructed and also they have widen the tarmac. The view while crossing this ghat section is breathtaking but we didn’t stopped because according to plan we were suppose to stop there while returning back to Bangalore. After crossing the ghat section we took a right diversion towards Bodi Methu to Suryanelli Road. The left diversion goes towards Kochi-Madurai-Tondi point highway. Around 1:00p.m we reached Suryanelli. We parked our bikes in front of the home stay. For a while i felt that i was surrounded by tea carpets around me. All the fatigue flew off after witnessing the beauty of nature. Meanwhile Dada and jeevan went inside to talk to the owner of the home stay. They both came out saying that owner is refusing regarding our advance booking. He said yatra.com didn’t call or informed him regarding the same. The owner was ready to give us the place but he was asking us to pay because he didn’t got any information from the yatra people. After few discussions dada called up yatra.com twice or thrice and after around half and hour later things got managed and we moved to our room. We got freshened up and had our lunch which was provided by the stay. During the food we had a good discussion about the place with the owner. He explained the road conditions and few past attempts done by riders to go to the top. After knowing about the place we did few changes in our plan and decided to explore Suryanelli that day and we decided to ride to the top at early morning for the sunrise. Around 3:00p.m we went out to explore Suryanelli. Roads were not that good but one can easily ride bikes. Finally all three of us took out our camera and started clicking. The weather was cool during day time there. We also went to the lake name sane irangal. We spend good 2 hours their. The ambience around the lake forced us to spend our whole evening their. All of us was busy clicking pictures, walking around the lake. We were not that lucky to spot elephants there. Usually elephants come to drink water their so its not recommended to tent there. After the sunset it started dizzling, so decided to head back to our room. Before dinner we all three sat together and had a good laughter session. A group of RE riders from Kerela were also staying there but we hardly had any conversation. After an early dinner we went to hibernation mode with the hope to get up ealry around 4:00a.m but that didnt happened. Details of day 2 will be updated soon. Till then enjoy few pictures I clicked.
