            CHAPTER 1 - “DAY 1”

            "Late Riders……"

            Day1 (Sat) - 04/06/2016

            Route - Mumbai – Khopoli -NH8 - Pune – Satara - Kolhapur

            Kms – 450kms

Many times we have discussed that we gotta sleep early and wake up early and start the ride early…But DAMN this ANXIETY before every ride. We have done so many rides I mean literally so many but that feeling before every ride, those sleepless nights, your eyes will deny to shut it no matter how tired you are after long day in office. And exactly something similar happened with us.

We woke up around 6:45 and started our ride around 7.30; seriously riding is never about planning…No matter however well you plan its never gonna happen…but that’s what the real FUN is.

Instead of getting nervous that we are already behind schedule that too on our 1st day of ride, we were laughing and giggling so loud that we would have definitely made all our neighbors wide-awake
As expected we got too much trucky traffic on NH8 but what went unexpected was “THE WEATHER”, it was so cloudy with cool breezy air even around 1.00 in the afternoon, moreover even after riding continuously for 2 hours we weren’t dehydrated. Truly it was treat for us as we were already behind schedule.

After lunch break we rode continuously for 3 hours without taking break <all thanks to lovely weather for not making us tired and the smooth CBR 250 which was added flavour.

Moving on descent speeds we reached Kolhapur around 3.30 pm checked-in to Hotel Jyotiba which was very close to NH4 and we found it just riding past it, taking rest was of no worry since we were not so tired.

I remember our previous days when we started riding and especially the “Rajasthan” one at that time covering 250 kms also felt so massive and now 600kms is like a cake walk
We decided to visit “Mahalaxmi temple” first and then the “Jotiba” Temple the another day, however as I was very excited to have Kolhapuri mutton since we were just for a night in Kolhapur and being a food lovers we did not wanted to miss on that and moreover I decided to have non veg only after visiting both the temples so we changed our plan to visit both the temples on same day and got treat to our tummies with some yummy meat on that night itself…lol

The way to “Jotiba” temple is bit of a ghat section so before dusk we thought to visit there and then the “Mahalaxmi” temple since it would be open till 10 pm.

As I said multiple times before that the weather was so beautiful and shallow rainy that craving for bajiyas was so obvious. We stopped on our way to Jyotiba temple near a small shop where the ladies served us some mouthwatering Mirchi (Green Chilly) ka bajiyas along with bread <OH MY GOD that feeling of contentment>

She also claimed saying that you should try our Misal-Pav, people come from far off to eat the missal prepared by her, obviously Sachin being a Misal lover immediately asked her to get one..You should have seen the magical big smile on Sachin’s face, seriously the lady claimed it correctly The best missal we ever had.

Bhukkad Sachin enjoying the best MIsal Paav of his life - for mumbaikar's- Mamaledaar or whatever Misal wala is fail in front of this Misal.

My friends laugh and feel stunned when I say I visited a temple in Kolhapur riding a bike for 500 kms. They say that we are a crazy couple but don’t you think that it’s better to be crazy then boring

I think we should keep visiting holy places we feel so refreshed with loads of positive energies.

After Visiting Mahalaxmi temple somewhere around 9.30 we found a awesome delicious resort type hotel to serve ourselves with some non-vegetarian food. My stomach was already tight because of bajiyas still I loaded my stomach with more Kolhapur Mutton thali which has Mutton Masala, Bhakri(Roti), Tambda Rassa(Red Curry), Pandhara Rassa(White curry) and mutton pulav, White curry (Pandhara rassa) is my favorite of all due to its richness in coconut.

Dinner for the night..says it all

Concluding with dinner we came back to our hotel riding in the cool chilly weather. We took AC rooms however it was so cold during night that AC was not required at all.
Day 1 was well expended. CBR truly rocked the show. Braking was so good.

Initially I was bit nervous and terrified to ride such heavy beast in fact, I was not trusting my capability that I can even ride an Sports bike…

EXPERIMENTs - this is the only way you can explore and know more about yourself and your abilities.

Well we were all set to leave for “Dandeli” on day 2, which was 250 kms.

After tiring day when you shut your eyes you don’t even understand when the birds start chirping and Sun God ask you to wake up for yet another adventurous day

We were very excited for this day since we planned to visit one of the beautiful place in Karnataka and I still had those images in my mind which I saw on google. I was very eager and restless to reach the spot ASAP…For a change I woke up early before Sachin around 7.00 and was all set to start the ride.

We went downstairs where we were supposed to get complimentary breakfast <who wants to miss on free breakfast> so we quickly made it to restaurant area and treated ourselves with some yummy healthy and King like food.

Sachin was satisfied after having the delicious breakfast so was I In fact he even commented saying “2-3 ghante ka kam ho gya ha” <that I will not be hungry for next 2-3 hours> he is so foodie that every 2 hours he want to load his stomach with some or the other thing and believe me he has made me of a similar kind

Since we thought that we need to ride just for 250+ kms we were in very relaxed and time pass mode. Make sure you should never take things lightly especially when weather is unpredictable and when you are riding on those terrain for the 1st time moreover you gotta explore new road..This 250+ kms felt like the longest ride of our complete 4 days trip.

We stopped almost everywhere wherever we felt like..we went offroading inside some farm and enjoyed the khet & khaliyan <CBR is awesome on off roads too> Enjoyed the weather and the moment of travelling on 2 wheels. It’s like when you are on our own you can stop wherever you want and explore whatever you want and seriously that is the best time riding gives it you..

We were supposed to take a left from “Belgauv/Belgavi“ but we missed it since I was in full swing with CBR testing his limits and the top speed and its breaking on high speeds<Sachin was mad on me because I went ahead of him and missed the turn..Lol> then we thought to take a turn from bit ahead somewhere from “Dharwad“ least we knew that it was the longest route to reach “Dandeli” but again we were very excited to view the place so such things felt like minor in front of our enthusiasm.

Taking a Quick lunch break around 3.30 pm <one of the best coconut bhendi masala I ever had> actually I wanted to share a small incident that took place while we stopped for lunch. While parking our bikes we observed that there are some good bikes parked in parking <Duke 200, RC, RE Classic 350 in the village type roads>
Actually when we stopped to have lunch, there were already some bunch of young kids enjoying their food. They observed us keenly and as expected started questioning us about where we came from? Etc etc …During our conversation we came to know that those bikes which we saw while coming in is of these kids. Mostly Sachin handle and interact with people whenever somebody becomes too questionable.

After concluding the dinner they asked meaning of our tattoo and took the move… I observed that in spite of having such good bikes nobody carried helmets with them. I never give gyaan to anybody but don’t know why I thought to advise them about how beneficial helmets are and so on. They left promising us that they realize there mistake and will make sure wherever they go longer or shorter they will never miss out to carry their crowns.

Well the road to reach Dandeli were very picturesque with 85% good roads. We were literally forced to stop and click some good shots at many places.

                      Yeah we are almost there

It was almost 5.30 when we realized that we are too late to reach our destination. We never do Pre booking in fact till date we would have hardly done some pre booking kinda thing. Before entering Dandeli there is a booking office which takes reservation of hotel rooms in whichever resorts the room is available. Sachin did some RnD about which resort is the best while we were in planning phase so we asked for that particular resort named “Hornbill Riverside resort”. The person was not ready to minimize amount even by a single point so we did the booking only for single night and proceeded.

When we reached Hornbill resort we asked him to take our booking for 2nd night as well since we planned a rest day on 3rd day and leave on 4th day directly from Dandeli to Mumbai. The resort person lessened the amount immediately as we stated that we are going to stay for 2 nights.

We realized that we made a mistake of booking it from that person who claimed that every person who enters the Dandeli Forest has to book the hotel from him<But that’s not the case> we should have directly come to resort and done the booking; or we could have done the booking by calling Well never mind that was a mistake we did hope you guys don’t do the same.

The Cottage which we booked was awesome with beautiful lake view and spending the evening in front of lake seeing the orange ish sky was awe-inspiring. Thanked god for making us so proficient of perceiving such places and enjoying the VIEW…

I Looked above and said it loud “BAGHWANJI AAP YAHI KAHI HO- I CAN FEEL YOU” <GOD you are somewhere around I can feel so>

Concluding the day with delicious dinner and of course a small celebration since we are gonna have a rest day tomorrow…WUHUUUU!!

DAY 3 was full of WATERSSS, LAKE, SWIMMING, MASTI, NATURE, BOATING !!
                      Stay tuned....

nice write up. write ups like these tempts me to pen all my rides down and share.
                          congratulations for CBR250.
you made a wise decision of getting the fairing off while touring.
                          1. it makes cleaning spark plug easy
                          2. you become somewhat carefree if there is no fairing while off roading and speedy turns.

How are the roads from Belgaum (Belgavi) to Dandeli? NH4 looks to be in pristine condition, thanks for sharing a picture of that. Good ride there to the both of you and wish you safe rides.

Awesome pics there and equally matching writing I must admit. And I think the place where you are staying is near the river Kali and not a lake. I enjoyed kayaking and a good swim there. One of the cleanest river I have seen so far.
