  • [Photo Feature]: Chennai to Kodaikanal on CBR250R - Unplanned solo trip

Hi Friends, This is my first long ride in my CBR250R (my daughter named it as Flamingo). Excited to share the travelogue.

Unplanned Trip: As it was year end there was no much work at office. One fine morning, the biker in me woke up and tempted me to use this opportunity to go for a long ride in my Flamingo. Luckily I got 3 days leave along with the new year weekend. So excited and I wanted this bike trip to happen for sure as this is my first long trip after my marriage, 8 years. Before marriage I have gone for many solo trips. Decided to go to Kodaikanal as it is very familiar route to me, visited many times with my family in car.

The Bike: CBR250R, 2012 ABS model with 17K+ KMs on the odo. Serviced and changed the chain sprocket, back disc pads 2 weeks before the trip. Perfect condition to go for the trip. It is always recommended to service the bike well in advance before the trip and not just before the trip. I found few nuts were not fastened after the service. I noticed it later and fixed it with local mechanic before the trip.

Preparation: I already had riding jacket, LS2 helmet, Balaclava and riding gloves. Quickly purchased the knee gaurds, Fila motorsport shoe, bungee cords and Power bank. About to buy Viaterra Claw mini tail bag, but then the trial with my sports bag is fair enough to hold the luggage for this short trip.

    The Trip:
28th Dec morning - Started from Chennai around 6.30am and reached Dindigul by afternoon (400 KMs). My wife and daughter were thrilled and surprised to see me, that too on the bike. They were on vacation in her grand parents home at Dindigul.
29th Dec - Took rest and spent time with family
30th Dec - Started from Dindigul and reached Kodai by 10 am. (150KMs). Spent the whole day in Kodai. Met my school mate who does business in Kodai and cherished lot of our school memories. Visited the famous spots of Kodai and returned back to Dindigul around 10pm.
    31st Dec - Rest
1st Jan - Headed back to Chennai

The Experience: The entire ride was pleasant without any issues. The weather was good almost all the time. I was crusing between 90 - 110 KMPH comfortably and the bike or me never felt tired. I was able to find at least 2 comfortable position in my CBR. Returning from Dindigul to Chennai was pretty quick and I took only 1 break (lunch) at Ulundurpet during this 400KMs drive. Surprised.

Wife and daughter were very surprised to see me. They didn't know I'm coming. Wife was keep pinching me to believe it.. ha ha. My daughter is the happiest. She didn't like the bike look dirty (due to the mild rain drive). She helped me to clean the bike next day morning.

Reached Kodai lake and called up my school mate friend Yoga. Had a nice chat and breakfast with him. Then we visited his home which is located in the outskirts of Kodaikanal. Very calm and peaceful place. Then we were roaming around main Kodai city with lot of chatting about our childhood days and present life. Wow.. felt very nostalgic.

Quickly rode back to Dindigul in the same night and reached safely. Enjoyed the night ride even more with peaceful set of songs. Please note that I rode in Kodai hills in night many times when I was a bachelor. That experience helped me to comfortably ride back. New riders, better avoid night ride in hills.

Alright! Time to return to Chennai!!!! No much photos taken during the return from Dindigul to Chennai. In fact I took only one break in Ulundurpet. Neither me or the bike felt tired. Comfortably cruised all the way. Started by 9 AM in Dindigul and reached Chennai by 3.30 PM with only one break

My wife and daughter were following me in my father-in-law's car from Dindigul to Ulundurpet. They were lucky to see me riding.. ha ha... and happy with my sedate and gentle riding style. Hope I can convince her for more such road trips. I was cruising in 90-100 Kmph most of the time and occasionally touched 120 Kmph. Fair enough to munch the miles!

Simple and good log bro Liked it!
I'm planing to do the same but unlike you, i take short smoke breaks every hour no matter what!
To me, you are a superhuman to manage with just a single break!

                              Cheers!
