Nopes Nikhil its not really that
-The protection you need is : A SPF18 standard cream -
: A good leather jacket - any one will do - which can keep warm
: A simple pair of gloves
: A lot of flexibility within yourself - be it anywhere - stay calm
: Atleast 6 pair socks as you are driving through lot of water on roads
: A medical kit

Yes, Dont go in rains - you have land slides on the way - even avalanches at Khardungla -
I experienced and seen it all .. SO a small tip
BEst season to go is September now if you can withstand sub freezing temp's in evenings
June 12 I slept in -2C. Imagine it in winters.
Better go in May last week or June first, second week.
ON snow put chains on your wheel if you dont have those tractor grooves on your wheel.

Hey those were some nice tips max.. can u gather some more tips on the precaution to be taken while riding up north & also what conditions a person riding whud be expecting & other experiences which u may find worth sharing.. make a nice rite up & post it in the long drive section, it will be really usefull for future wannabes

lovemax, i'm headed for leh sometime next week. gotto get 600 kms done on my bike. service. then i'm off!

i'm going solo. the proposed trip is ... meerut->chandigarh->bilaspur->manali(stop over)->keylong(stop over)->sarchu(stop over)->leh(stop over)->khardung la->back->return via dras kargil.

what i wish to know is whether it shall be necessry to carry extra fuel after tandi? my bikes tank can hold 15 ltrs. will that not be enough to take me to leh?

also how many times have you done delhi->leh? have you ever come back via dras/kargil or was it back thru manali?
