thats fantastic...Originally posted by rossiter View PostPosting from Leh. Did K-Top yesterday on a Zma. Treacherous conditions, mostly being the temperature and tricky road surface. Rode in temperatures of -30, and staying at K-Top for more than 5 mins was tough owing to the cold and freezing winds. Trying to do Marsimik-La tomorrow provided conditions and luck is good.
Road to Manali is closed, but there is traffic plying. Srinagar road is open according to the local taxi guys.
Feels good to be back in the mountains after 5 long years.
have a nice time there..!! Convey my regards to the M.la baba

@praful: Yeah I flew into Leh, and had all my gear sent ahead two weeks ago. Was supposed to have a Husqvarna WR250 (2 stroke 250) to ride around, but the damn thing refused to fire up. Switched to a Zma which performed brilliantly. Started with one kick on K-Top (cold start issues anyone?
).
Yes, the last few kms near K-Top has lots of black ice. Other than that, no big issues as such.
Currently taking a rest day. Hit with slight AMS owing to a calculated risk of not accimatising enough."Tough times never last, but tough people do." - Robert Schuller

Completed Marsimek La on the second attempt day before yesterday. My plan is complete. Will do it again in a more leisurely timeframe in the summer. Some notable points:
1) Zma gave out just after the ITBP checkpost near M-La. Ditched the bike in the snow and hiked up to the top.
2) Everything covered by snow. No boards visible as everything was under 4 ft of snow, so i have taken a GPS reading to make sure i actually did reach M-La
3) Roads till Pagal Nalla are in fantastic condition.
4) Cellphone connectivity (Airtel) available even in M-La, and K-Top! Got quite a buzz calling hisunil and gsferrari from M-La top
Will share more when I am back in Bangalore."Tough times never last, but tough people do." - Robert Schuller

Cellphone connection at M-La top, When we checked, there was no network signal available not even emergency signal (which would come from other network availability), maybe snow is reflecting lot of radio waves around man
And did you say you hiked to M-La top, in bike itself this is 2 hour journey!! that's 23 km or so, amazing feat
