  • [Photo Feature]: Wanderlust Diary- The North Eastern sojourn || Sikkim and Bhutan || 7000 kilometers

Well, there is always this one road trip which keeps evading you whenever you plan for it. This was one such trip! Two years of planning, one failed attempt later, we did it! My first experience of the North. 7000 kilometers and 20 days on the road! Taking Sport bikes to places which is not their home territory all the way from Chennai and over all this once in a lifetime of an adventure.

Here i present to you our Wanderlust diary to the mesmerizing lands of Sikkim and Bhutan. I'll let the pictures do the talking for now, more to come after approval. Stay tuned

Fantastic. Why are the pictures so small?

I have no idea, I guess they got compressed somehow.

      ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Reposting the pictures, somehow the editing has spoiled the size of the images.

Beautiful so far...Waiting for the rest.

I came to know that riders are not given permit to Bhutan nowadays, is it true, how do you manage to get one?

There are so such issues. But for solo travellers they hesitate to give permits, however there are always other ways out. 👍🏻

                    PRELUDE:

It all started with us planning for Sikkim and Bhutan last year right around October. As you guys already know, it did not work out but the itch to ride up north was there! Early this year i told to myself, "somehow I'm doing Sikkim and Bhutan this year". I never really put my head into it. Come August i made up my mind that i would do this trip whatsoever and spoke to my friends about it. Initially it was a big group but due to many a reason some dropped out! It was just me and Karthik and we planned our dates right. The ride was planned from Sept 29th to October 18th. Besides this we did not plan anything else. Our plan was to leave Chennai on 29th and get back on 18th : No itinerary, no nothing . Early September i was just talking to Sagar over facebook and he mentioned that he also had a plan to ride up north as his hometown was in Siliguri. Fast forward two weeks and it was three of us who were confirmed for the ride. So introducing the riders

This is me, Christopher with my 2016 KTM RC 390- Rex

This was the route map that was plotted. Our destinations were fixed but what we were to explore there was up to us totally and that made it much more eventful. We did not face any surprises as nothing was planned, we just went with the flow pretty amateur but still, hey! why not?

I’ll at least try to keep this log organized unlike our ride plan

Part 1: Day 1-4: Onward to Siliguri
Part 2: Day 5-9: The Bhutan leg
Part 3: Day 10-15: The Sikkim leg
Part 4: Day 16-20: The return back home

                    So the plan was set.

                    Day 0:

Due services were done on the bike, baggages packed, bike was washed and we got everything set and ready by around 11 PM in the night on September 28th. Karthik bunked at my place for the night and we got some sleep. Errr… we tried to get some sleep . We’d be very tired, we’d just want to sleep but the night before the ride is when we would be wide awake. Happens with everyone of us! Perks of being a rider So the plan for the next day was to leave at 4.30 AM from Chennai after meeting up with Sagar. But, you’d know us well by now we did not

                            Hey,

Awesome trip bro. staying in tents is always good for budget & freedom to stay wherever you like and wake up to an awesome view.

But how did you enjoy the highway ride from Chennai to Kolkata?? I can't ride 4 days on a highway & is been my downside for a lot of trips.

Hope your back & rear are both fine!

Sadly so, we were able to pitch our tents for just two days at max. I could not bear the cold.

Highways until Kolkata was very good. We were able to do 850kms per day on these highways. Post Kolkata is where the roads started to suck until Siliguri. Had a very tough time on this road.

                              Both are fine indeed[emoji39]
