  • Kharapathar (Himachal) 2009, RTR beats the R1! Concluded... not quite!

    Introduction.

Sitting unemployed in times of recession has helped in my cause of going round on motorcycles with likeminded folks. When the long weekend of 14th – 16th August started approaching, I put forward the proposal to a few bikers and cagers. With the initial list prepared, I contacted HPTDC. Initially we were aiming Narkanda and Hatu, (yet again)! HPTDC was sold out everything on a radius of 100kms around Shimla. They proposed Kharapathar. Anybody heard of it? Not me! But Vivek Sharma, yes! That is another story. The day approached, last minute joinee… Manan, he managed to find a booking with us and we kept each other in the loop through mails with the usual check list that we all have now but seldom heed.

I went to Kharapathar in June last year on the way back from spiti. We were heading to chakrata and it was raining cats and dogs then. Nonetheless, it was blissful when we reached there.
And I can completely relate to the rain ride; black coloured hands; mucked up visor and riding jacket as i had a similar experience on the way to khirsu last weekend.
      looking forward to the pics...

I know where is Kharapathar. Liked your write-up.Something different & you also tried something different for the pictures.

This line "And if you lit a match, I would explode!" make me go ROTFLMAO. Btw you don't need a matchstick to explode.

Looking forward to the rest of the log and pictures.

Real nice start, although that title is just AS boring as the write-up is interesting! Which riding gloves do you use? Because you say that the colors started coming off! I have used my riding gauntlets on such HEAVY showers and NOTHING has come off.

Waiting for the next part. We all hope it would be just as hilariously interesting, if not more.

P.S: I see Nitin has got an Digital SLR!? Which one?

Nitin has the DSLR from a pretty long time and if my mind is serving me right then it is 400D.

Thanks for enlightening me MG! I didn't know that he has got himself the 400D! I would love to have a look at his collection of lenses!

                        Amazing Experience

KenDa: Thanks for such a cool triplog, actually waiting for the remaining part of the log to come.

@ALL: After the last sunday Dhaba meet where I was actually chosen for this ride, I was all set to go for the rideon 14th Morning. As I got to know that fellow riders are coming with their family I thought of taking my brother and Bhabi along, the ride was all set and I was fully geared for the ride, when at the last moment my brother seemed bit skeptical of driving in the hills and cancelled his plan, with a long convencing try and discussion (which fuinally landed up as cancelled) I went in to bed for a little rest as I was coming directly from the shift in the morining 5:00am. And when I was lost in dreams I don't know, I got up with the SMS of KenDa.

I started from my place in the morning around 7:00am and I have managed to reach the Havelli's in Karnal by 8:50am where I met with KenDa and Nitin. From there we hadded over to Zirakpur.

It was a very pleasent weather till than, however as soon as we took the right turn from Zirakpur, towards Kalka, Oh Man, it started raining like hell and we were all drenched badly, and god save us from that traffic, which actually came our way like moster in a vedio game. First Rain than heavy traffic, it seems like trip is gonna be tough, but as soon as we crossed that rainy patch and entered the hills, fun got started. We did all that leaning and bending and really enjoyed the ride (KenDa you really ride and lean well, Riding an R1 in the hill with that speed is awesome). We stopped at CCD in Dharampur where we reached exactly 12:00hrs and stayed there till 13:00hrs.

Then after having our small snacks break at CCD we again started towards Simla-Theog and kept on enjoying those lovely twists and leaning experience ride. Somewhere near theog it again started raining and once again we were drenched like anything. We stopped somewhere before Theog to dry ourselves and to have some tea and Pakoras.

After having one more break of around 1 hours we again headed towards Chailla. Now as soon as we took rigth turn towards Chailla, it felt like I am riding all alone. Because it was so much of mud on the road that you can't even imagin of looking back in the rear view mirror to see your fellow rider (you do it and you loose your own traction). Well when I reached Chailla I realised that I am way ahead of KenDa and Nitin. I waited there for a while and then started again towards Giri Ganga Resort. Well finally around 18:30hrs I reached the Resort.

Reaching there I met Vivek sir and his family who were already there some hours early than us, and also most very lovely and sweet kids Mael and Aryan. Well to my surprise there was no electricity in the Resort so that I can atleast have a bath with hot water to give some rest to myself after all that ride full of rain. Some I managed to get a just full of hot water with which I took a economic bath . And then went to Vivek sir's room for some Chat. Soon we were joined by rest of the crew.

We kept on chating for long till late night and dot at 00:00hrs of 15th August, Moon came with a cake and Chaimpaign and we celebrated the birthday of the Oldest kid in the lot, yes it was the birthday of KenDa. After celebrating the birthday we all disbursed to ou bed at around 3:00hrs, to wakeup again in the morning.

We all wokeup at around 6:00hrs and planned for the visit to Giri Ganga, however due to heavy rain last night and still going on drizlling spoilled our plan and we finally decided to stay back in Hotel and just raom around the town. We spent our day like that and finally went back to bed in the night to again start our ride in the morning.

We all wokeup at 4:30hrs and started our ride back to home at around 5:30hrs. Vivek sir and lady's gang started ahead of us and then we started sonme 10-15 minutes later. It was a hell of the ride till theog as it was full of mud and was very difficult to ride in those situations. This time I was way behind KenDa and Nitin as they both stopped somewhere enroute waiting for me. soon I jioned them and we started our ride back to planes.

When we were just 5kms before Simla we stopped to get fuel where we got to know that rest everyone is at the hotel somewhere 10-15minutes drive from Simla. We all started our fun filled ride of leaning and bending towards the "Good Luck Hotel". We all stopped there and had a delicious Bread and Omelette. Then we started again from there having 2 small stops enroute and finally stopped at Havelli's for the lunch break.

After having lunch we all started back to our homes. After reaching Entry to Delhi Nitin took the right turn to go to his home and me and KenDa continued to ride together till Pragati Maidan from where I haded towards my home and KenDa to his. Reaching back home it was like the ride is still not over as till then I could come out of that corners and fast speeding ride, and as soon as I enterd home it was MotoGP coming on the TV. I had a shower and enjoyed the MotoGP then.

I know explaining this ride's experience in words is not possible but I think I made you all involved in my ride with this log and you all would have also enjoyed it.

Thanks to KenDa, Nitin, Vivek sir and all other family members who were with us to make this ride such an amazing experience of my life, hope to have many such more ride expeirences with you all.

And yes, Nitin got a DSLR.

All the photographs so far are HEAVY crops taken with a P&S Sony. None of them have been shot with a DSLR!
