              [Cont...]

The beautiful Durgapur was empty as usual and we were doing an average speed of 90kmph. Stopped in front of the TATA NANO factory at Singur to take couple of pictures.

              The birthday girl

Rode another 20km and came to Hotel Hindusthan Dhaba Gurap. Whenever I cross this Dhaba I make it a point to stop here. Couple of pictures from there.

              Wrecked

              Endless

Enough of highway riding. Now it's time to take the village road full of child, goat, cocks, ducks, carts, bicycles, cows and morons. Still I love riding through these roads. Rural bengal is wonderful.

              Homecoming

My first attempt to do panning - Bhaskar riding his P150

              Life of a motorcyclist?

              Living on the edge

Enough of rural bengal. It's time to move on. We were doing comfortably 30-40kmph in the village road. I was very cautious and was slowing down whenever I spotted any living being beside the road. Simultaneously I was looking for subjects to be clicked. Suddenly at one point I saw a gathering beside the road. Initially I thought I must another usual adda session that youths have after returing home after a hard day's work. But I spotted several roosters in that region. Bingo!!!! Is it a cock fight going on? I have heard and read about this thing from childhood but I was never lucky to see one. Asked Bhaskar if he thinks it's safe to take out my new FZ28 in front of so many people. I knew there must be some betting going on and I was little tensed. But at the same time did not want to miss this golden opportunity to take a few macros of these beautiful cocks and to do a HD video of the cockfight. Asked an aged person if I am allowed to take couple of pictures. To which he agreed. Asked Bhaskar to keep a eye on my bag, riding gears, bike, took out the camera, put on the lens hood and I was ready to shoot .

For all Cock lovers out here.

I was supposed to take launch at home . It was already 3:30pm. But I got so involved with the game that it was difficult for me to come out. Soon I found Bhaskar in the crowd . Wasn't he suppose to guard our bikes and other stuffs that were kept at a distance? I was worried. Asked him. He replied "Dada, could not resist myself. Sorry. Do not worry I am carrying all your bags and gears with me!!! Poor Bhaskar!! Could not resist the temptation of watching the battle of Cocks!! Anyways, I was talking normally with the villagers and they appeared to be very friendly. Finally all the games were over and we were ready to roll again.

Here is a HD video of the cockfight

YouTube - COCKFIGHT in Rural Bengal India

It was almost 5pm and was getting dark. Turned on my Osram night breaker (L.P take note ). We were up on the old Delhi road again. crossed Magra, Iswargupta Setu and entered into Kalyani. Bhaskar's place was still 60km from the place. He never rode in this area. Gave him road direction and returned home at around 5:30pm.
Overall it was a short but eventful journey.

Just want to add something about cockfighting. I came back home and googled about cockfighting. Came to know that this blood game is rightly banned in India. If you take a closer look at my video you will find the place is full of blood. Sharp blades are tied with the legs of these cocks and within seconds one of the cocks get injured. In my video also the game ended within few seconds. The injured cock could not even stand. Blood was coming out of him. I also found several wounded cocks in that place. Couple of them even died. I was really sad when I left the place.

You are making me more hungry everyday.

BTW you can watch cock fight but of different version, not with the sharp blades, if you go to Raigate. Route - Kalyani Barrackpore expressway - take left towards Haringhata. Ask for Raigate, its exactly 11kms from my home.

This is what happens after every monsoon. Anyways, we will be having a ride very soon. How about "BAYWATCH - The blade goes to the bay of bengal!!"

Nice log there. Lovely photographs. Some of the more interesting ones are Colours of Life and Living on the edge amongst others.

Rural Bengal is indeed beautiful, interminable stretches of paddy fields interspersed with banana plantations. Looks really wonderful with some nice sunsets during the monsoons.

Yes Cockfights are banned in India for a number of decades now I think.

OT; I have approved your membership on the Photographer. You can post your intro now!

Edit: After watching the video, it did leave a real bad taste. I cut meat regularly to eat, but this looks unholy to me! Disturbs my mind!
