300km ride to celebrate her birthday

                        Route taken –

While going - Kalyani – Magra – Old Delhi road – Chinsura – Garulia – Bhadreswar – Bhadreswar/Durgapur expressway connector – Durgapur expressway – Dankuni toll plaza –Haora – Uluberia - Kulgachhia – Bagnan – Kolaghat. (Indicated in the map with black colour).

While returning – Kolaghat – Bagnan – Kulgachhia – Ulubria – Haora – Dankuni toll Plaza – Durgapur expressway – Gurap – Bhastara gram panchayet – Magra – Kalyani. (Indicated in the map in red colour).

                        Total distance covered - 288.3km.

It’s been almost a month since I have been to a more than 100km ride . Somehow either my other commitments or the rain god was not letting me have a long ride. In this last one month I have got myself a Panasonic FZ28 camera, a cramster riding jacket and fitted a German made Osram nightbreaker 60/55W bulb in my bike. I was dying to test all of them. Also my bike’s birthday (30th august) was coming and she was awaiting her 6th servicing.

This week I was desperate to have a ride. Made sure I do not have any commitments this Saturday and was all ready to ride. Initially my plan was to go to Mandarmani, a beautiful isolated beach 230km away from my place and come back on the same day. But unfortunately my friends from RoadRollers (www.theroadrollers.com) were tired after returning from a hectic trip to Puri. Also Fireblah wants to take the blade to beach but he was busy on Saturday. I asked all tourer friends of mine and everyone were either busy or were not ready to ride 460km in a day in monsoon. I checked google weather for Saturday and they said there is 30% chance of rain . Prepared myself, took rain gear, umbrella, a towel, bike papers, tool box, my new camera, riding gears, checked the bike and before dinner on Friday I was ready to go. But somewhere in my mind the idea of going to a isolated beach alone was not clicking. Called up a few friends including phyco28 and tried to convince them for a last time but none of them were ready. Anyways, as usual came online after dinner and Bhaskar asked me if it’s possible for me to join them as he and Arijit were planning a have a short ride to Kolaghat. Both of them are basically city rider so wanted to have a short ride. Bhaskar was also very eager to see my riding gears. I never met any of them so I obliged. I wanted to start very early so that I can make up any lost time due to rain. But because of some family commitments Bhaskar said he will not be able to join before 11am. So, we decided to meet up somewhere in the crossing of Delhi road ( NH2) and Mumbai road (NH6).
The junction of these two roads is 70km from my place so I started off at 10am in the morning. Got a call from Bhaskar in the middle and he said they are waiting for me at another place in the highway. I asked them to wait for me on the highway as I will be crossing that place in five minutes. He assured me.

                        Long way to go

After riding for nearly 15 minutes when I could not find them I was sure that they have missed me completely . Stopped at Dhulagarh toll plaza and called Bhaskar and asked them to come to the toll plaza. Waited for them for nearly 20 minutes. In the meanwhile a guy with a bajaj discover parked his bike near my bike and was giving me curious looks. I asked “dada, ki chai?” (Dude, are you looking for something?). He moved on but stayed at that place. Finally Bhaskar with his UG3 P150 and Arijit with his new P220dtsi came. We exchanged greetings and started to roll.

I was tailing and we were cruising comfortably at 80-85kmph. Suddenly I saw that guy with discover 125 in my RVM. Yes, he was racing with us. I signaled him to overtake me. He did that dangerously from the left side. These days even if I say something @#$%&*, others can’t hear it because of the full face lid. Anyways, I knew this racer will not let me go easily. Again he was coming dangerously close. Thought of stopping but other two riders were riding in front of me and they are new to highway riding, so could not stop. My only option at that time was to take the speed well over three digit mark and sped off. I did that. The road was empty. While crossing a Maruti Swift saw a cute chick looking at me from the rear window . I tried to focus on the road again but somehow I could not . Looked again and she was still there looking at me. Waved my hand at her. She gave me a naughty smile and looked at the driver’s seat. I looked at the front window and saw an elderly man driving.Must be her dad and that's why she is scared. No point in flirting with a girl while riding so waved my hand again and rode on. Reached Kolaghat before them. Within couple of minute they came. It was 12:30 at that time. Went together to the Shere Punjab hotel at Kolaghat. Had Tea, Chicken pakora and Kabab, cleaned up my visor and was ready to roll back.

                        At Kolaghat

Took couple of photo breaks while returing. One of them is of Mahabharat motors, a new motorcycle manufacturing company. This project was in doubt even couple of years back. Anyways, that’s a different story.

Mahabharat Motors - no longer a distant dream.

After taking picture started to ride again. Arijit took the Kona expressway entrance and went towards Kolkata. Bhaskar too was supposed to take that entrance but wanted to ride with me. In his words "Parents will still scold me for going this far. So, it's better to take a longer route and go back home. The amount of scolding will vary little" . Anyways, we started to roll again and crossed the entrance of Kolkata west international city.

Rest of the log, twist in the tale, pictures and couple of very interesting HD videos coming tomorrow.

In your log you said you wanted to test things and then get it serviced:

                              Jonak, Just one Question,
How did you test the Osram Night Breaker in the Day time?
