  • [Photo Feature]: 3 Bikes;640kms - Temple of The Creator of Konkan and Guhagar Beach

It was quite long time since I last rode on my most favourite road in Maharashtra - The NH17 - especially The Kashedi Ghat. Off late I was doing quite a lot of trips on the Mumbai - Pune Highway, sometimes for work purpose and sometimes just for fun. Was totally bored of riding on the road with the divider in between. Wanted to enjoy the old fashioned two way highway with lots of twisties. Couldn't resist my itch to visit the mighty Kashedi.

Just reached home after an approximately 645kms round trip to The temple of The creator of Konkan - Lord Parashurama and one of the finest and safest beaches in Maharashtra - Guhagar Beach. Though a bit tiring - mainly coz of the afternoon heat - the ride was full to paisa wasool and why wouldn't it be when I had my most favourite road to ride on with 2 best buddies.

Here I am keeping the tradition alive by posting a few teasers while the log and rest of the pics will be posted as I get time tomorrow. Damn tired right now.

Full Trip Log and Pictures :
    Part 1

    Part 2

Before I start of with the Trip log.. Here's a bit of information bout the places we visited...

              Lord Parashurama:

Bhagwan Parshurama is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is immortal.
This Chiranjeevin Immortal Brahmin warrior is in the lineage of Bhrigus.
Parashurama Bhargava or Parasurama (Axe-wielding Rama), the sixth avatar of Vishnu, belongs to the Treta yuga, and is the son of Jamadagni and Renuka.
Parashu means axe, hence his name literally means Rama-with-the-axe. He received an axe after undertaking a terrible penance to please Shiva, from whom he learned the methods of warfare and other skills.
He fought the advancing ocean back thus creating the lands of Konkan and Malabar (Maharashtra - Karnataka - Kerala coastline) is known as Parashurama Kshetra (Parashurama's area). He is the first scholar to apply his knowledge of reclamation.

He performed various experiments in agriculture..
Parashurama is said to be a "Brahma-Kshatriya" (of the duty between a Brahmana and a Kshatriya) and a descendant of the Kshatriya Vishvamitra.
Chitpavan Brahmins consider Parshuram as their first ancestor.

              Parashuram Temple:

It is dedicated to Bhargavram or Parshuram. There is a central shrine surrounded by two smaller buildings. It is a devotional place.

This temple is situated near Mumbai-Goa highway. The temple is having an idol of Parashuram in Middle, God Brahma in right and Lord Shankar on the left. 300 years ago Brahandra Swami reconstructed the temple and that time the idols of Gods were consecrated here. The combination of Hindu, Muslim and European architecture is seen in this temple.

There is a temple of Renuka, mother of Lord Parshuram, behind the Parashuram temple. There is a tank called as Banganga Talav which is believed to be made by Parashuram by arching five arrows to the ground. There is a festival every year on the Mahashivrathri Day.

              Guhagar Beach:

Guhagar located at 42 Kms. from Chiplun is a typical Konkani town with a beautiful clean Beach where a lot of people come in the evenings to see the sunset. There is an ancient Shiv temple of Vyadeshwar here, Guhagar is a small place and people who want a quiet peaceful holiday prefer coming to guhagar.

Long stretch of unspoiled white sand beach, Guhagar beach offers all sanctity one looks in a serene and secluded beach. The invasions of modern concrete buildings are scanty in this beach. The beach offers a perfect place for sunbath, relaxation and meditation, away from the madding crowds.

Arabian sea with all its charm, sometimes as calm as a kid and sometimes as harsh as a roaring lion, attracts the visitors to its lap in Guhagar. The beach is assumed to be very safe, with many venturing out to sea for a bath. Offshore chat stalls make the place an ideal spot for spending vacations.

              Regards,

Nice trip Ketan! Yeah I can understand the feeling of a 2 lane...the R15 seems to go much faster on it-maybe its due to the cross winds on 4 lane barricaded highways!
                        Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Thanx brother... Yeah.. riding R15 on a 2 way is completely a different thing.. She's so agile and flickable through corners.. It's just never enough..

Thanx Sagar, well yes, I wanted that route because initially our plan was to go to Pavana and reach the NH17 via Tamhini.. But was so bored of riding on NH4 that we skipped the plan and took the NH17 straight away..

Log and pics will follow shortly.!

Another thing you can enjoy watching the expression of other drivers while overtaking them.
