Sir.. I had never been to this beach before but I was aware of the place. I know a few beaches in Maharashtra which match your description above but if you do a bit of search on Mr. Google, you'll get the info which I have mentioned above. May be then they are wrong :P I personally can't comment as we didn't get a chance to get into the water - shortage of time plus no spare clothes and towels :P

And bout that board..hahah.. that board was put up by a bhel puri wala.. no doubt it means something but more than that it looked just for fun, at least to me..

Yes, it was Umesh, Mandar(ID: lonelyrider) and myself...

Another thing you can enjoy watching the expression of other drivers while overtaking them.

The last time I went for a ride on the NH17 was when we - the Mumbai xBhpians - went to Ganpatipule..and it was way long back... Recently we used the NH17 when we had been to Raigadh but that was nothing as the destination was quite close and on NH17 the real fun starts after Mahad.

Ever since I bought the R15, I became a big time fan of twisties and cornering. And that's precisely why I was doing a lot of trips on the Mumbai-Pune highway - sometimes just for fun and sometimes for work purpose. The twists and turns on NH4 are no doubt beautiful but one has to agree nothing beats Goa highway when it comes to twisties and cornering. And I dont know why, I always feel at home when riding on NH17. May be because the first ever long ride which I did my life was on NH17 on an Activa, Mumbai - Goa.

I didn't go for any 500+kms ride since long time and therefore me and my friend Umesh had made a plan to ride to Mahabaleshwar using both the highways, the NH4 and NH17. But due to some reason this ride got postponed indefinitely. Weekend was approaching and I wanted to ride somewhere. Fellow Mumbai xBhpians had a plan for the weekend and the destination was Dabhosa waterfalls on NH3. But I was too bored to ride on a road with the divider in between.. I just couldn't resist the itch to meet my first love and decided to ride to any place on NH17.

I sent a few sms's the night prior to a select few mumbai xBhpians. Half of them were game for the Dabhosa ride and rest didn't want a long ride. So I decided to ride with my friend Umesh, who's always game for my call. That's when Mandar, the xBhpian msged me asking if there's any plan for the weekend. I said yes, there is a plan but the destination isn't fixed. He just wanted a ride - destination didn't matter and therefore he was game for the ride with us.

I told Mandar to meet us at Panvel McD, at 5.30am sharp on the Sunday morning. I was busy with work till late night on Saturday and at 1 o clock I was sleeping on the bed with my travel guide book to zero in on a destination. I short listed a few names and decided to fix the destination at Panvel McD next morning after discussing with Umesh and Mandar.

Got up at 3.45am to get ready and Umesh was waiting for me downstairs at sharp 4.45am, fully geared up and very excited. We left for Panvel at around 5am. Beautiful time to start a ride. roads were empty and temperature low. Reached Panvel by 5.30am. Mandar was there in a few minutes. Then I showed them the names which I had short listed. They had no issues with any destination, all they wanted was a ride.

So now we were at Panvel McD with 3 destinations, either Dapoli or Parashuram Temple or Guhagar Beach. The road was common till Khed on NH17 so we decided to reach Khed first and then looking at the time in hand and the climate at that time, decide where to go. We quickly tanked up at a petrol pump near JNPT and started the actual ride by 6-6.15am. It was dark and therefore we were riding carefully, speeds were low. By the time we reached Karnala bird sanctury sun started to spread it's light. Riding then was much more easier and pleasurable. The road till Wadkhal is not in such a good condition. Our bikes took some heavy beating till we reached the place.

We reached Wadkhal just before 7am and therefore the hotels where we usually stop for hot n spicy Misal Pav(aka missile pav) and hot cuppa tea were closed. Thankfully found a small hotel open and we pulled over. I think more than anybody else, Mandar needed that break badly. He was wearing just the windcheater and Helmet as protection, no gloves and it's just unimaginable riding in such clod climate without gloves. Only he knows how he kept pace with us without the gloves. Tea was nice and by the time we finished it, there was a crowd around our bikes People were checking them out by sitting on them and stuff.

We quickly rounded off the break and resumed the journey. Road condition was now better than earlier but still not upto the mark. May be the monsoon season had taken it's toll on the road. We moved ahead with constant pace and just before Mahad, there was very thick fog. Riding through it was super fun. Our visors were completely covered with moisture. Went at some place before Mahad for some pics.

Once the clicking was done, we moved ahead with our next pit stop at the usual spot jsut opposite the river at Mahad. Roads were getting better and better. The twisties were making a nice mood and we reach Mahad in no time. Stopped once again for some pics and pee break.

        Babes lined up..

This is one wierd pic that Umesh clicked..haha..

I checked the time and decided to move ahead quickly instead of wasting too much time. The road between Mahad and Poladpur via Raigadh was really enjoyable. We all were eager to hit the Kashedi ghat but I stopped these guys just before Kashedi for a tea break coz I knew both of them must be very excited and didn't want to risk anyone by continuing the same way. We stopped at a small tea stall and ordered Wada Pav and tea. Meanwhile I told them a bit about the ghat. The road is so beautiful that people do get carried away and that's when accidents occur. I had ridden many times on this road but for them it was all new. And that's exactly what happened ahead.. Will write it in the next part of write up. Now have got some work come up. Sorry for that..

Till then a few pics at the tea stall where we stopped. Right at the base of Kashedi.

        Thanx and regards,

hey ketan, wonderful write-up. The roads are not much good around wadkhal, even our bike took bit bang bang on those bloody, un-expected potholes.
I was reading your log, got bit excited, then read about "The roads where new & thats exactly what happened ahead", then you tell, "will write later".. Its not fair.. Get the rest man.. I was so excited that now will get to see the lovely kashedi's pix..

Yeah man.. that road is in poor state. Thing is if the road is in completely poor state then atleast you get that mind set but road like this where some patch is perfectly fine and then all of sudden there are those hidden potholes makes it even scarier and risky.

I am extremely sorry to disappoint you Rachit but at the same time don't want to keep you waiting.. Unfortunately we dont have any pics of Kashedi this time.

And bout the "I'll write that later" thingy.. Dont worry man, it was a completely crash free ride. It was just a close shave that Umesh had in the ghat.. I'll share with you people what exactly happened..

The reason I stopped them before Kashedi is I didnt want to stop anywhere in the middle of the ghat and lose that momentum which we'll get while enjoying the corners. Besides, Kashedi has been pictured a lot many times before.. I'll post one of those pics to atleast lighten your disappointment.. :P

              Thanx for the compliments though

Sure thing brother. I somewhere had read that you are going for the Devbandh ride and therefore I didn't ping by messaging anyone who was sure for the Devbandh ride. Just didn't feel like spoiling the game. Though I had a small chat with Ram man regarding our plan

                      Thanx for the compliments dude
