@Zayn: You mention Auli is an expensive place to stay, but you haven't mentioned exactly how expensive. Where did you guys stay in Auli, and how much was it per night?

I ask because, I might just be going there for about 4 days, after I am one-hundred percent fit, and hence, I need to know beforehand the kind of budget that Auli requires. As it is, I am a budget traveler.

Aryan da Auli is expensive in term of food and fun activities like skiing where cable car from Joshimath to Auli also makes hole in pocket it cost 500Rs one side and skiing cost 200Rs but I thinking skiing is useless for you as your purposes of visiting is different I guess.
Best place to stay is Joshimath Old GMVN rest house but if economic rooms are not worth staying its better to stay in Dlx room which will cost 650Rs off season and it has many restaurants out side as old GMVN is in main market food is cheap too.

But if convince him to give room number 102 its economic but has DLX feature as whole hotel is empty he can give you.. which will cost 500Rs cheapest room in GMVN

where as in Auli cheapest is 1500Rs + one tea cost 10-15Rs now you can Imagen costly Auli. Its better to stay for 3day if you have less budget and if you have 2-3 people with you then its ok to stay 4Days

            Joshimath Old KMVN
            Economic - 500Rs (102)

Food don't eat at GMVN because its costly its better to eat outside restaurants which are only 30-50M out the rest house
            1 Day food - 200Rs (Breakfast,Lunch,Evening tea,Dinner each 50Rs)

            Fuel:
My bike gave me awesome Mileage only 600Rs fuel in whole trip not counting trip starting fuel I mean 1500Rs fuel will be enough for the trip
please make your trip plan fast because snow is melting like hell. But when we where leaving Joshimath in morning it was snowing in Auli and raining in Joshimath.
            yes da Get well soon..

P.S: Its better to take something to eat in Auli and yes water is most Important single bottle cost 25Rs over there..

@Zayn: Truly said. My aim for traveling to any place is a little different. So, skiing et al is totally out. Rs.650/- at Joshimath seems a little steep but manageable nonetheless. And since these are the off-season rates, I don't even want to know the "on"-season rates!

Accommodation at Auli is Rs.1500/- per night!? My GOD, that's extortion! Then, where did you guys stay? Or did you two contribute equally? Also, is taking the cable car necessary to reach Auli, or we can ride all the way to Auli during the winters? I might not be able to ride there this time of the year, but probably during the summers (April - May). Hence, all these questions. I have never liked having food at the same place where I generally reside, not because of my taste, etc., but solely because of the financial thingy. I scout out some of the cheapest places to eat and then take my pick! How else do you think I managed to complete the whole Spiti trip (a 6-day ride/ tour) under Rs.3000/-!!??

Yes, traveling with a partner or two can really bring down the expenses considerably, but I somehow fail to find a like-minded rider/ traveler who is also free at the same dates/ days! Hence, off-late all I have been doing is traveling solo.

Anyhow, I appreciate your reply. Thanks for replying.

@nipunblaze135LS: I am down with heavy fever and a mild chicken-pox since the past 4-5 days odd, but am a lot better than earlier, now. Thanks for asking.

                    @Prateek: Thank you.
