          Why?

          ...To be continued soon...
WHY?... I believe this very potential question from WH FAMILYwill always ponder upon the whimsical mind of ones with no true satisfactory answer. Be it the very faint reminiscences of exchange of those smiles of your first childhood innocent love with the chubby girl sitting right next to you, asking for your pencil, and you presenting it to her in all your happyness (happyness without and 'i' ) despite of knowing that you don't even have a spare one. Be it, despite having a bibliophobia, persuading yourself to attend all the boring lectures of your first crush, bewilderly astonishing gorgeous biology teacher, uttering complicated terms which in turn would create a melodious resonance in your mind, all day and night, for the rest of whole academic year when you were still in school and would get heart broken on getting the news of hers getting married soon or be it the mountains beckoning a biker just like a girl next door inviting you for a supper before they leave your town for good. This WHY will always return to haunt you and hence the prologue always continues because probably there will be no epilogue to it…and thats where the essence of this WHY lies which is inevitable.
          Continues…

Pangong is an easy 32 kms from Tangste. The reason why I chose Tangste over Pangong for staying is because it has more staying options. Plus it is not as windy as Pangong.

So we were on the shore at 3 Pm. I remember the last time I was here; I had stood a good 10 mins just gazing at the beauty of the lake in awe. The last time I was here, I had not seen something that was remotely close to the beauty of Pangong. The last time I was here, I was alone, not only on the ride but also on the shores.

However, the lake was just as pristine!

                                Tourist vehicles

                                One of my favorites!

After around 30 mins on the shore, I took a nap!

I slept there for a good 30-40 mins, tanning myself in the meanwhile. When I woke up I looked like a Spaniard! Red cheeks and chin that stood distinguished. The guys laughed, they found it funny. Little did they know, that in the time to come, they too would be blessed with a similar appearance except the fact that they would not look as handsome as the Spaniard

We began our little ride back to Tangste at around 5 and were back in an hour. Dinner was to be served at around 9.

BTW, I forgot to tell you about the services provided by our host at our little rest house in Tangste.
                                1. Lunch @ Rs 50 per se
                                2. Dinner @ Rs 50 per se
                                3. Breakfast @ Rs 15 per se.
                                4. Nice big room at 300, with a bigger washroom, which was 50 meters away.
                                5. Unlimited number of smokes!
                                6. A nice river side porch, with a sitting area right next to the flowing river, and a few beers to go with the ambience, all on the house!

Can you better that, at 14100 ft?
                                .
                                .
Alright, I am kidding about the free beer!

                                Sunset at Tangste

Ab time pass karna tha, kya karte? We started fiddling around with our bikes. Archit and I removed our air filters. Although my bike was ascending the inclines without any issues but I was experiencing Xtreme power loss from the Xtreme. So I thought this might help.

We were finally allowed to leave at 11. Now let me tell you that the ascend to Chang-La from Durbuk is one of the steepest roads in Ladakh. The incline just never ceases to diminish. It just goes on and on.
But what did I have to worry about? I had removed the filter. I had overheard people singing poems on the bikes performance at high altitudes when the filter is removed.

So I was confident. But did it help? Hell no!

                                Enroute Changla

But he got up instantly. No harm done. Speed was 5km/hr

Reached the top and met up with a few fellow riders from xBhp. They were on their way to Pangong. Exchanged a few pleasantries and we were off again.

The fateful car of the tourists who perished at Changla at the beginning of the season

Now a few things about this hut. It was made of insulated material with a thick layer of solidified thermo-coal to seal the heat within. The estimated cost in constructing the hut was upward of 5 Lac, according to him.
But this thing was hot. It was below 10 degrees outside and the inside was hotter than your home would be in the middle of a day in June with the electricity gone for an hour and both the invertor and the generator (if any) screwed up!

We had a wonderful time there. Met up with so many guys from the BRO. They gave us a lot of insight on their work! Knowledge on the amount of precision and patience involved in clearing a pass was imparted to us. An enlightening moment for the uninitiated!

A round of antique rum was followed by dinner, at the hut itself. All in all, a very satisfying day for us!

The next morning at 8, it was certain that Baralacha is still snowed out and it may take 2 to 3 days to open up.

We had to make a decision.
