i reside in shimla n keep on touring....i hav a zma n i assure that u wont have to regret this choice at ne point of tym...
+++ being a regular tourer on these roads, kalka shimla road can b traversed well in 5th gear on zma while maintaining 50-60 or plus speed with ease while cruising...!!!(including many overtakes too :O)
no races, no stunts, no limits...simply khopchagiri...

      • How come no one even mentioned the Avenger-200? How is it when it comes to touring? Atleast, the riding position is comfy. Any positive/negative traits of this bike?
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

        • I have done about 700 KMS up and 700 kms on a dio which is 1400 kms. all together..We have had no draw backs on the bike not even like engine over heating. puncture or any like that. we like drove it for 3hrs continuously. Faced no problems.

There once was a woman who was quite begat.
She had three babies named Nat, Pat, and Tat.
She said it was fun in the breeding,
But found it was hell in the feeding
When she saw there was no tit for Tat.

                • Guys i would say the person riding the bike is more important the the bike on which u planning the hike on.
I and friends of mine had a really long drive on DIO's having not even a failure the whole ride
                  our journey
bangalore- ooty- coimbatore-ooty-bangalore which is some wher around
300+250+250+300+60=1160 which is in 4 days.
                  the count goes like this
                  bangalore to ooty is 300kms
                  ooty to coimbatore is 250kms
coimbatore to ooty is 250 kms again
ooty to bang 300 kms again.
and roaming ther went upto 60kms

All the difficulties that we faces wher our asses busted evy 3 hours.
to get rid of that we stopped evy 1hr 30 min which is like a cooling period for the engine also..

so i guess why i'm telling it all depends on who's riding the bike and now which bike ur riding.

Wow! You went touring on the DIO! Good to see that. Could you post details on such a ride? I am sure that would be quite informative for a lot of us.

                    • There was nothing much we checked or even did.
All we did is changed the engine oil.
Always carried a litre of petrol extra in a bottle so that we can keep it as reserve if petrol got ever on our bikes in the middle of no where.
Took some goggle coz we cannot wear helmets all time while driving.
check the air pressure. Then took enough cash for all aspects..
having done all this the next thing we did is left to our destination.'
But what kept our engines safe was that we always used to give a stop after every hour because we dint want to over heat the engines. Evy break that we took was for about 10-15min.
this is all we did the whole journey..

Not bad for DIOs. Commendable in fact.

However it is advisable to keep wearing your helmet ALWAYS. You will see tourers here and their logs who keep their riding gears and helmets on for 12 hours of riding sometimes even more in the desert and other places. It is for your safety and the well being of other road users! We NEVER take off our helmets while riding a two wheeler!

                            • I think the Zma is nice and powerful and all.. but nothing beats the comfort of the Avenger!! Take my word for it. I own both the bikes and have done a good amount of touring on both of them, but now i always take my avvy for tours. Plus, another advantage that i feel the avenger has over karizma is... CHICKS DIG THE AVVY!!
