Correct. Full of potholes, inconsistent switching back and forth from Concrete (new) to Asphalt (old) roads. Expansion project is going good however monsoon has ruined the roads completely. e.g. It took me 7 hours to reach Panvel (New Mumbai) traveling via Bus (usually it used to be around 4½-5 hrs max) from my place which is around 135km. Avoid the NH17 at all costs, especially if traveling via a motorcycle.

      Cheers!

I would like to know the road conditions from Mumbai to Nashik. I went in early October last and the roads were really bad especially closer to Mumbai.
A little late but the condition is still the same. It's tolerable going outwards, but returning via Thane is a very, very rough ride.

The road conditions between Pune and Satara have further worsened (Update as of Nov 16, 2020) and now even the flyovers built over the last couple of years is riddled with potholes. The underpasses beneath flyovers currently being built is in bad shape. Once past Satara the road improves. Please ride carefully between Pune and Satara. You should be prepared to add on at least 20 min extra to your travel time.

Though not part of Maharashtra, Chorla Ghat via Belgaum into Goa road conditions (update as of Nov 18, 2020) must be of interest to many riders. There is approximately 20 kms of "no road" or you can say potholed riddled stretch with some large craters from Delta restaurant to the Goa check-post at the bottom of the ghat. There is a lot of noise being made by the locals about this appalling state of road conditions and the local government has committed to repairing this stretch soon. By when, I dont know and I ask any other riders who happen to travel this way to post their feedback

          • Hi,
Could anyone let me know the condition of NH17 from Mumbai till Goa? I had recently travelled till Vadhkal and that was pretty good. Concrete in most parts and the new bypass flyover is a blessing as roads at Vadhkal are potholed.

Similarly, the exit from the flyover towards Alibaug is also poor.

            Thanks

            • Put aside at least 1.5 hr extra to cross from Thane to Fountain Hotel and then the next 20 km or so on the Mumbai - Vadodra highway NH48. The route is plagued with massive traffic jams from early in the morning.
