    Hi.
Thanks. Ended up travelling on 25th September finally.
Kolhapur to Satara foggy upto 8 am.
Satara - Pune has multiple diversions due to repairs mostly closer to the Pune side.
    Pune - Lonavla - Khandala - Khopoli - Panvel - Navi Mumbai - Mumbai.

The roads are all well marked and in fairly good condition except for small a few hundred metres near the diversion sites in the Satara - Pune section.

Bumping my own post for some visibility again, sorry mods.
If I get some timely suggestion then okay, otherwise I'll be taking the NH65-NH9 route to HYD.

      Regards.
Heyy, I did Hyderabad to Solapur a couple of weeks ago and it sucks big time between Humnabad and Solapur. I'd personally not been on Solapur-Kalaburagi route but I bet Karnataka's SHs are way better than that shitty pothole-filled tarmac of NH65. It'd cost you 4 hours for that 140kms and you'll have to be on continuous alert, thanks to bouncing trucks. It's not impossible though. Lots of tailgating, mud-splashing, diversions every kilometre and gravel at each diversion involved.

P.S: Don't drive in rain on this stretch.

      ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Hyderabad - Humnabad : Excellent, the conventional 4 lane National Highways.

Humnabad - Solapur : 4 hours, 140kms, potholes and mud-splashes, truck tailgating and lots of diversions

Solapur - Kolhapur : A good 204A, nice and smooth road from Sangoli to Miraj with village traffic (and butt irritation), and a cream of cake from Miraj to Kolhapur.

Kolhapur - Belagavi - Hubbali : A super-smooth and solid NH48 all the way till 20km short of Hubbali, truck traffic between Dharwad and Hubbali (2-lane national highway without a divider?)

Hubbali - Gokarna - Kumta : The NH52 is nice and good 2-lane with sparse traffic and lots of forests. NH66 is under renovation and expansion. Expect a typical average speed of 45kmph on NH66, and potholes, slippery diversions, crazy drivers everywhere, truck tailgating.

Kumta - Honnavar - Jog falls - Bhatkal : Kumta to Jog falls is a good ghat road with ocassional gravel potholes. Jog falls to Bhatkal is the best stretch you'll ever ride on, amidst forests. Prepare well for a jingle in the jungle (curves every 150-200m)

Bhatkal - Kundapura- Udupi : Same old pothole-diversion-tailgating NH66 till Kundapura, and a typical buttery 6 lane NH from Kundapura-Udupi.

Kundapura - Thirthahalli -Shimoga : A cream of SH52 uptill thirthahalli, best views and mediocre roads, some crazy roadworks from thirthahalli - shimoga, but doable with a sore butt. Worth the view.

Shimoga - Davangere : A super smooth and straight SH25, so straight you can design rulers by it, but beware of local police waiting for mamool.

Davangere - Chitradurga - Challakere : A usual perfect NH48, and a good road to Challakere.

Challakere - Atmakur : I don't know the road but it was fun, mostly good silent simple road (don't expect a highway)

Atmakur - Anantapur : A very good 2-lane state highway (with lots of windmills scenics) no potholes and rare curves.

Anantpur - Kurnool - Jadcherla - Hyderabad : The legendary NH44 (super smooth 6-lane) (from hyd to bangalore) but a little rash traffic as you get closer to Hyderabad (these car drivers get diabetes as they come closer to Hyderabad).

      Cheers, ride safe.
I meditate as I ride to find a place to sit and meditate.

I am planning to do Mumbai to Hyderabad and back during Diwali vacations. Plan is to leave Mumbai (thane) on 20th Oct at 6 am. Reach Kalaburgi by evening around 6 to 7 pm.
Again leave Kalaburgi on 21st Oct at 6am and reaching Hyderabad (satellite township, near suchitra circle) around 12 to 1 pm.
The Google maps shows Kalaburgi to Hyderabad via Humnabad as a better option. Is the Kalaburgi to Humnabad road good?
Another option that I see is via Kalaburgi - pargi - chevella - moinabad - Hyderabad. To reach satellite township I have to go via Himayathsagar - lakdi ka pul and then following NH44 all the way to Suchitra circle. Given the peak morning hours traffic in Hyderabad on Saturday. Which route is better?
While returning back to Mumbai I might come back via NH9 all the way if that road is better than the above. Returning on 23rd October leaving at 6 am. Kindly help with current road condition as well as good eating options.

Hi all, I rode.tp Hyderabad from Mumbai this Friday. It was smooth ride until Solapur. But as soon as you turn towards the omerga road the road surface turns to bad and then worse. After lots of potholes and diversions you reach a point where it says Toll road starts. From there onwards road is very good. There are 2 small stretches in between which are not done. But rest is fine until the toll road lasts. BTW the toll road ends quite a bit before Hyderabad ORR entry point. Although it is not very bad but there are some potholes to be wary of.
I started at 8:30 am from Thane and crossed solapur around 4:30. Took me another 3 hours to reach the toll road starting point.
One saving Grace is that the 4 laning work is in progress and it should be ready by end of next year at least.

While returning from Hyderabad, I went to Kalaburgi via Humnabad instead of going straight to solapur.
This was a good decision. It was longer by at least 50 km but the road was very good. In the entire stretch of Humnabad - Kalaburgi - Aland - Akkalkot - Solapur only 5 - 6 kms were bad. About 3 kms inside Akkalkot town and about 2 - 3 kms in solapur before I caught the bye pass.
I covered the entire 772 km in 16 hours. Started from Hyderabad at 5:15 am and reached home in thane at 9:20 pm.

Pune to Goa via Chorla is in good shape. Avoid Amboli ghat as the beginning stretch is full of potholes and broken up. On the return leg, make sure you cross Satara by 1 pm to avoid traffic jams which can last till Pune and can turn nasty like it did last Sunday. Lastly be careful and don't engage with squids whilst crossing Kolhapur.

Roads are good right through till Wai. Suggest you ride early mornings as you will beat the traffic and weather past Lonavala is cool. The road from Wai to Mahabaleshwar, once you begin the climb up, is patchy post monsoon but nothing that your bike can't handle. Watch out for oncoming traffic past Wai in the hills. Ride safe.

That's a good time to begin from Mumbai and you should be clear of traffic right through to Mahabaleshwar.

I did Mumbai to Hyderabad on 26th Jan 2018. Road is good till solapur. Then a rough part. After that lots of diversions due to 4 laning work, but decent surface. Then starts the horrible part, 2 lane road, full of potholes. My back started paining bad. (I have done leh and spiti rides without backpain) Halfway into the Karnataka portion of the highway, this terror ended and began the smooth 4 lane road. It lasted all the way to Hyderabad with a couple of small incomplete patches. On my Himalayan, I crossed solapur at 4pm, crossed Maharashtra border at 5pm, reached Hyderabad outer ring road at 8.45pm. Will be doing Hyderabad to Mumbai tomorrow.

My bad. I kept a note of the odo today.
The good road starts from 19kms after umarga i.e at Karnataka border. It is good all the way except for some diversions/incomplete stretches at Tadola and Sangareddy.

Rode to Indore via Nasik Jan 25, 2018. The route via Nasik Phata from Pune is very good except from Chakan to Alephata which is rough and has some potholes, approximately 40 km. Be aware of traffic jams from Alephata till Nasik Phata in the evening which adds to the travel time. A new link road in Nasik bypasses the city and takes you past BITCO chowk. The AH47 highway (Mumbai - Agra highway) is good tarmac throughout but has a lot of speed breakers till Palasner which is the Maharashtra MP border. Thereafter it is a smooth ride to Indore.
