    Thanks.
    That's bad planning.
You're taking state highway from satara to ahmednagar, why? You don't like your bike?

You could ride till Pune kiss the city where traffic is the thinnest and be on nashik rd which is in very good condition.

Which route is in your mind.??

        Nagpur-nanded-latur-solapur-kolhapur-goa is the shortest route.

Roads are mostly two lane. Expect bad patches around latur and solapur and pandharpur. But I dont know very recent road condition.

Else you can opt to enter Karnataka by bypassing Hyderabad. It is known that roads in Karnataka are mostly good

After Hyderabad you can head towards gulbarga-bijapur-belgaon or raichur-hubli. Both these routes are around 150kms longer than the first one. But roads are good in Karnataka

But please cross check my opinion before choosing because I haven't been anywhere near these places in recent past.

        Hope this helps

Thanks for the help. I'll rather prefer your first option. As mostly the tour companies travel by that route.

Re: Updates on Road Condition: Maharashtra

NH222 is decent in most places, with the rare few big potholes suddenly propping up!! so be careful guys, can prove to be rim benders these.

I went on a ride to Malshej ghat last weekend and was fortunate to escape a few. Btw people from traveling Navi Mumbai, should avoid the Mahape-Shil Phata-MIDC Pieline-Murabd-NH222 route since some stretches are horrible(especially the stating stretch right after you cross THane Belapur road(or ghansoli bridge).

The pipeline-murbad road which feeds NH222 is in bad condition too, so avoid it. Best is to ride via kalyan in the morning(roads are good except for the Kalyan station stretch which is scary) when you'd find no traffic in kalyan town and may be take the murbad-midc pipeline route while coming back from Malshej to avoid kalyan Traffic.

Hey guys, I have a query,
Driving on Mumbai-Pune express way is not allowed of the 2 wheelers. Is it true?

If true, still atleast once I want to ride on that road. Is it possible that there are some cuts and we could enter?

There are many access roads from NH4 to Expressway. But it is well policed. Expect to cough up fines when caught. I don't understand why you want to do it?
The NH4 has sparse traffic, is tarred and smooth , offers better views snakes rather than stretches. It's better from a biker's perspective.

You'd anyway ride on the expressway if you take the NH4 since they share a section together(near the tunnel). That is a pathetic concrete laid road .

Just want to ride once. As I am travelling on that highway since childhood, so was dreaming to ride a Motorcycle there.

I will be riding to Mumbai next month from Nagpur. That's why I am asking.

Re: Updates on Road Condition: Maharashtra

Hey Jitu, let me suggest you a better road than Pune Mumbai express highway. Go to Pune - Solapur Highway - NH9. A beautifully tarred road. Unlike the expressway, this is made up of tar and not of cement, so it is friendly to the tires as well. You can ride at good speeds, and bikes are legally allowed on this highway.

I will strongly suggest not to ask for illegal advices on public forums, as it unnecessary tarnishes xbhp's reputation, projecting it as a website than has 'tips' on illegal activities. If you are keen on Expressway only, then do the small patch around Lonavala over and over. Trust me, it is not as great as it is thought of, the way high end cars are zipping around you. Don't traumatize car drivers because of your childhood wishes, and please observe traffic rules.

Copied from the weekend getaways from mumbai tourer threads :

If anyone is riding to Jawhar then avoid the Bhiwandi-Wada-Vikramgarh route like plague.
It's the worst road I have ridden till date. Basically a stretch of potholes with the odd tarred section. I did this route yesterday and oh man I was cursing the government every 30 seconds.
The return leg was the Jawhar-Dahanu -Manor-Mumbai. The roads were very good , NH8 being butter smooth as always. The road to Dahanu which feeds the NH8 is very good compared to what I had to put up with a lot less potholes.
