It was dangerous because it was raining heavily and yes i was riding close/on the/ inside of the yellow line near the parapet wall. wishing that the exit comes soon and I get off the E-way.
If it's dry on friday. Then E-way here I come

I had recently been to Tarkarli and it was a NH17-NH4 round trip

NH17 - Roads till Vadhkal naka are screwed up. Try to complete this stretch early otherwise traffic would play a spoil sport! Post vadhkal roads are butter smooth with some rouhh patches in between (not much).
Once you cross Pali roads are badly screwed up for about a total of 25-30kms after Lanja. Night riding becomes very difficult with the oncoming traffic and their high beams. After this stretch roads are smooth all the way till Kankavli where we took a right turn for Malvan. Roads till Sawantwadi are good.
NH4 - As expected 4 lane supersmooth highway. I suppose you might have to exit NH4 somewhere near Belgaum. I am not quite aware of road conditions after Nipani. Someone else can shed more light on it. But I suppose it should be good as NH4 is one of the best highways.
Since you would be riding a busa... NH4 would be more preferable (IMO) as NH17 is a two lane highway. But again, thats a personal opinion!

          Do share your experience!

                      Mumbai to goa via nh-17

MUMBAI TO GOA VIA NH 17

The extremely bad patch before vadhkal has been fixed but it still has a few rough spots. The entire highway is excellent overall. The roads are beautiful. There is some road work going on near Lanja and roads are very rough between Lanja & Kharepatan. The tramac at Kashedi & parshuram is excellent so you can go bonkers at the corners. I did . Overall the road is excellent 7.5 out of 10.

P.S. Due to the ongoing road work & also the recently completed roadwork, there are some patches with very slippery grey gravel sort of stuff. Be very careful.
Just flick the switch and twist my wrist
The beast comes alive, bringing me back to life
A tap to shift and flick of the wrist
The beast takes flight bringing me back to life
Kill the silence, tear apart the dark
The beast rips the road, hell yeah, i feel alive.

I plan to go from Nagpur to Shegaon and back. This happens to fall on NH-6. How is this road? I have heard that the Nagpur - Amravati stretch is good!! What about the Amravati - Akola - Shegaon stretch??

Mumbai - Pune - Bhor Ghat - Mahad - Mangaon - Diveagar - Poladpur - Mahableshwar - Pune (for a detailed writeup refer Ride On - Season 1 in the Tourer section of xBHP)

Mumbai - Pune: The old Mumbai - Pune road is excellent with clear markings and smooth roads.

Pune - Bhor Ghat - Mahad: Pune to the beginning of Bhor Ghat is a good road, though in most parts boringingly straight. Bhor Ghat in small patches is rough, but overall much better than going via Tamhini ghat.

Mahad - Mangaon: This stretch on the old Mumbai - Goa highway is excellent, though again straight but a short distance.

Mangaon - Diveager: Do not go via Mhasala which involves a ghat which makes for some serious offroading, aching wrists, etc. To avoid this - do not take the "short cut" which arrives by taking a left near a petrol pump, instead continue going straight to Diveagar. This so-called short cut actually takes almost an hour longer!!

Diveagar - Poladpur: Good road, the majority of which is again on the old Mumbai - Goa highway.

Poladpur - Mahableshwar: Initial 15 - 20 km from the beginning of the ghat is bad, though road repair work was going on in November. The rest of the road is excellent and offers lots of twisties.

Mahableshwar - Wai - Pune: Road is excellent, though one tends to encounter a little heavy traffic on the way down from Mahableshwar to Wai (the foothill).

                            Preferred route toward Pune

This might look like a stupid question, but since I am a new rider, and still figuring out directions, I have this simple query:

While riding from Palm Beach Road/Belapur toward Pune/Lonavala, am I allowed to take the starting part of the expressway and exit at panvel bypass to enter NH4 (magenta line in map) or I still have to take the right turn at circle and stick to old road (red dotted)?

                              My two cents.

If you are as it is travelling by palm beach road. why not take the uran road>JNPT road and directly reach the bypass near shedung.. Very less traffice wide road no traffic signals. I always take that road while coming to pune. Also after JNPT no pollution.( If that really matter as well)

Thanks, I have to try that one! My worry is more about bad road condition, and was wondering if bikes are still allowed on the initial stretch of the expressway, though your route looks fine on the map.
