  • Query regarding touring on 125cc

Hello veterans and newbies alike. Been riding for 2 years (26kms to college everyday to and fro). I wanted to do a Mumbai Lonavala trip on my 125cc splendor. Is it feasible and safe? Gonna be my first 100km+ ride. Was concerned about the engine heating up and highway access. So will be riding in the mid 60s. No wet roads this time of the year which is bonus. Route information will also be appreciated

Re: Query regarding touring on 125cc

If you don't put excessive pressure on the engine, take breaks in between, it should be fine..
there is a member here, i have read his logs.. Forgot the name.. He does tours on his platina.. So if a 100cc can survive, then why can a 125cc..
ride in the range of 60-70km/H and take a few breaks.. And enjoy the ride

      Ride safe and have fun.

I had done lonavala trip twice it is very nearby to mumbai and you will not face any kind of problem like engine over heating or other thing, Just keep your speed below 90 kmph and take a break after 1 hour. Keep riding at constant speed on left side of road and use indicators and head turn check before overtaking any vehicles. be aware of four vehicles specially touring vehicle they have different attitude toward motorcycle.

You may reach lonavala within 2 hours so dont rush it is not too far. route is as follows -->Mumbai -->vashi --> panvel-->catch NH4 toward bangalore -->after madh take a left --> welcome to lonavala..

Best of luck for your journey...

We are waiting for your experience..

I suggest you to please read all safety related article on this site they are very useful to survive on two wheeler no matter where you are riding...

If you keep speeds moderate and take couple of short breaks each way, you and the bike both should be ok.
Remember to wear safety gear like helmet etc and be comfortable.

          Enjoy your ride!

I have done 1000+ km in 2 days to HP from Del, on a Activa!!
So Splendor should manage well I guess..Ride sane and take breaks
You can ride a Motorcycle any day of the month. ;)

Thank you guys! Will equip myself with a pair of gloves, helmet (duh!), tough jeans and a sturdy jacket. I guess that should be enough. Refreshments shouldn't be a problem I'm guessing. Will definitely share the pictures.
Much needed ride after a long week of final year engineering vivas.
Cheers. You are a fine lot of bikers!

Sounds like its going to be a good experience for you... the bike should be fine.. ride between 60 to 70 kmph and the bike shouldn't create any problem..

me and my friends have done a trip from Chennai to Pondicherry on a Splendor and on the same day return.. well. my friend was on his splendor and i was on Karizma..

don't worry about it.. ride safe.. wear shoesssss no sandals or slippers..

just for an awareness and out of my experience.. Don't overtake any vehicle from the left unless you have a complete lane to escape in case the vehicle you are overtaking tries to come to the left.. and make sure you have side mirrors and keep a look on the side mirrors whenever you are about to overtake..

125cc splendor means Super splendor ??
thats a capable machine , ride in 80-90 kmph all the day , stop after 200-250kms once for atleast 10mins , Use 10w40
or 20w40 engine oil, better stick to mineral oils as they are sasta , change every 1.5k kms max , if u ride hard then 1.2k kms max , thats all , tune it little,
                    (wie bee) richer side ....
Thats all , my platina is now clocked 43k kms , always rode hard long (highest 1342kms in 19 hours) , still now stock bore +piston is working fine ..
                    all the best ..

Yeah bruv, its a Super Splendour. Throttle response is definitely not the best at 80 but satisfactory (felt that way after having rode a friend's Duke for quite a bit). Have hit 110 kmph on my HH Super Splendour! Going to tighten my brakes a bit. Will take your advice on the oil. And oh, 1342kms in 19 hours is badassery :O
                      Thank you!

If you change rear tyre upgrade to 3*18, stock is 2.75*18 (as its in my dad's super splendor 2nd gen) .. 10w30 oils are good for short blast after riding some long it losses it capability very fast , with thicker oil 20w40 you will loose little acceleration , but vibs will be less ..
I regularly do long ride on my platina 125, 10-12 travelogue I have posted , someother in queue ..
All the best , live free, ride hard, be safe ..

My rear tyre is 3*18. Got it changed last year itself. My Hero mechanic is an arrogant fellow. He says 10w30 oil hi aayega. I gave it away for servicing (to secure all my parts so that there are no vibrations) so I'll just let him take care of the oiling business. Getting my brakes tightened too! And I'm getting the headlight fairing removed, the bugger is charging 950 rupees for a new but cheap plasticky one. Full rip off scenes. Hero Honda servicing quality has gone to dogs man *shakes head*

Change your mech/SVC whatever may apply!
Now that you've got your ride serviced, try to look out for a competent mech elsewhere.
