No road from Kargil goes into China.Kargil is near to Pak border and there is a wrest while road exists that goes into Gilgit-Baltistan area of POK,which is a prohibited region and closed for last many decades.

Hi, I have done a very detailed R&D of the roads in Kashmir and even my research didnt show up any significant results. I wanted to go via kashmir, just to able to scale the highest motorable pass enroute to china. The only convinient pathway that I have found is via Kathmandu, Nepal. Although I will be witnessing some fabulous scenery, but I'll have to plan kashmir some other time

A little help for roads from kargil

Hey everyone, I am planning a really long road trip which is in its planning stages for now. The starting point is from Hyderabad or Nagpur (whichever is convenient at the start of the ride and the destination is Cape Town, South Africa).

I need some route info from the more experienced Kashmir riders here; How many roads go from Kargil to out of India, into China??

Guys, anyone planning a ride to Leh/Ladakh beware, the taxi mafia has managed to ban private bikes too now:

If you guys aren't familiar with the bullshit they are trying to pull, here's a primer: Car convoy attacked in Ladakh by taxi mafia! - Team-BHP

They are attacking private vehicles with rods, stones, with intent to grievously injure the occupants. Beware.

As for your dates - looks good, bit you need more planning. Look at some existing itinerary options, plan your route and your gear/equipment. Once you have that, post it here and you will have plenty of input from the pros. Good luck and godspeed!

You can go as late as Sep. It starts getting cold in the 2nd half of Sep and then snow.
