Leh ladakh

Its urgent please help!! bike touring pros.
My friend and i are planning a bike trip to leh. What is the best time to leave for leh? Is mid july too late to leave?

No need to coming to Leh.
Instead of going to Leh,go towards Pang.Doable.

Like to add few suggestions ,

1. Amritsar to Srinagar is single day is not possible , don;t be in illusion unless your hard core biker and will ride whole day without stopping even for lunch breaks.
i did rode from drass-->srinagar-->jammu [solo] in single day without any breaks except fuel, and its terrible mistake and very hard on body. so split it 2 days. mark my word even if you go ahead with your current plan on this route you will repent.

2. Chandighar --> Manali in one day not possible , eventhough its 300+ km but its full of ghat section and bad roads + ACC cement factory makes life hell with lot of trucks , make it 2 days , unless your hard core solo rider without any breaks.

3. Manali-->Leh , you can do it 2 days , but my suggestion is make it 3 days, this is one route which defines the Leh ride , go slow with plenty of breaks and photo sessions , you will remember it forever , and surrounding geography is amazing , don;t ride this in hurry

4. There is no need to accumulate for height in Nubra , its just very hot desert.

5. Leh --> Nubra vally , consider doing it Night journey one way , roads are good and its amazing experience, trust me you will enjoy it, anyway next morning you can head back to Leh in day time.

6. Avoid Delhi , directly go to chandighar you can save 2 days and also Delhi--> Chandighar is plain highway, you surely get bored.


I did as below , so you can get an idea, but don;t follow mine , its mess in some dates

1 -- chandighar-bilaspur
2 -- bilaspur -- manali
3 -- manali -- jispa
4 -- jispa -- pang
5 -- pang -- Leh
6 -- Leh -- kardungla
6 -- same day -- kardungla -- hunder [nubra] - started from kardungla evening 7pm reached hunder 10pm
7 -- Hunder -- kardungla -- pangang Tso [ started from hunder morning stuck in kardungla coz of land slide, started again from Leh in evening 7 pm to pangong tso] - night ride to Pangang Tso
8 -- pangang tso -- leh
9 -- Leh -- Drass
10 -- Drass -- Jammu [dead Tiered ]
11 -- Jammu -- Chandighar

Hi Sukhi Plan is quite viable. But Why are you coming back from Khardungla on Friday the 26th. and then again riding on the same route to Nubra. Why not reach Nubra on Friday the 26th itself. Don't tell me you want to acclaimatize. You would have already acclaimatized by 26th. So move to Nubra on 26th and can cover Turtuk on 27th which is further on the same route. Please check the latest Ladakh Map Prepared by me and supplied to you. If not available, I will post it again today. Leh to Manali in 2 days also looks a bit tight. Keep some buffer for this trip. Hello All,

I am planning to go on a bike trip to Leh. The itenary has been planned starting from Chandigarh to Srinagar. We will be flying to Chandigarh on the 1st of July and flying back to Mumbai from Srinagar on 13th. Problem is, there are hundreds of packers and movers to move the bike from Mumbai to Chandigarh. But none to move it back from Srinagar to Mumbai.

Please suggest any agency which you might be knowing which can move from Srinagar to Mumbai. If you had a prior experience of moving bike from Srinagar to Mumbai then do share it.

Here are some from the top of my head:

Srinagar - Pro

• Gradual altitude gain. So less chance of hitting AMS
• No pass/permit tamasha of Manali route
• Fuel supply all along the way.
• Better accommodation enroute
• Better road conditions

Manali - Pro

• Shorter route assuming you start from Delhi
• Action starts as soon as you leave Manali i.e., Rohtang pass
• More passes to cross
• Some famous places like Gata Loops. Moore Plains
