• Advice Needed for Delhi - Bangalore - Goa - Delhi : August 2015

Hi XBHPians, I am planning a long trip in the month of August by bike for 15 days following the route of Delhi - Udaipur - Nasik - Pune - Bangalore - Goa - Pune - Vadodra - Udaipur - Delhi. For the planning of the same I would like advice on which Expressways are 2 wheelers NOT allowed. For one, I know they're not allowed on Mumbai - Pune expressway which is why I moved Mumbai out of the way.

I have read the same about NE1 although I am getting conflicting pieces of information about the same. Presently i am in the process of planning the itinerary which i will also share once finalized. I have just done the onward sections till Bangalore which i am listing below. Any recommendations for the same ?

I will be sharing the return journey itinerary as well as and when finalized.

I really would appreciate all the experienced folk on here to kindly help me out with the planning of this. I would also like to know the road conditions along this route.

Could someone please point me to a post which would help me prepare my bike for the long haul. I have included servicing, checks and top ups for engine oil, brake oils, brake pads, coolant, chain slack, accelerator cable, clutch cable.

Regarding the spares i would be carrying, following is the list :

1. Engine oil
2. Chain cleaner / lubricant for lubrication at every 500 kms or so
3. Puncture kit and air pump (although i do have slime in my tubeless tyres )
4. Fuse of diff ratings (Just in case needed)
5. Tool kit

I am not worried about the bike condition as such since its a 3K kms old NS. Should I take a couple of spark plugs ?

Looking forward to hearing on this.

I pray to God I walk away...
I walk away to ride another day

Yo, didn't see your thread for whatever reason. Even now can barely see your plan, because the image is so small, i cannot read anything in it

So i will just stick to what you have typed out.

Delhi - Udaipur. An awesome route to ride, provided it isn't too hot, hopefully rains would have come in and cooled off the place by August. The Delhi-Jaipur stretch is a pain in the a*. Immediately after Kishangarh toll take a left onto a non-descript road which is actually the good highway to Udaipur. The other road will go via Ajmer, which is also decent from what i have heard. Though i have not been on it so can't say, but there is more traffic on that route. The advantage is you get a bit of the ghats before you hit Udaipur.

Udaipur to Ahmedabad is again great, but be careful if the temperatures are soaring, the road will be melting and thus very greasy, ride very carefully on this stretch.

Ahmedabad- Baroda. The expressway doesn't allow cars. You have to take the old highway, which is still under construction, but far better than what it was earlier. Once you cross Baroda it is all awesome till you hit Bombay. The traffic will make you want to jump in the ocean, only problem is you won't reach the ocean, because the traffic will have blocked your way Of course in the rains you will have rivers running along the road, or more like the road will be a river so carry a raft

Ask some more specific questions will help you out from there. And post your plan as text, so that i can actually read it!!

All the best for your ride. Regarding your bike, if it is so new, you have nothing much to worry about, just carry basic spares, carry rain gear and make sure all your luggage is ready to take on the monsoons, you should be sorted and not have too much of a problem. Since you will be sticking to NHs, there is not much to worry about.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

I did a Bun Burner 2500K over the weekend which went by. Did Gurgaon-Jaipur-Pali-Abu Road-Ahmedabad-Vadodra-Bharuch-Vapi and return over 20-21 June and can share my experience here on certain stretches which you would be travelling.

Oh no.. not really.. actually both carriageways are great now. I frequent this route almost every month and with surface of return carriageway being laid in May, journey has become a lot faster on this route.

Ahmedabad- Baroda. The expressway doesn't allow cars. You have to take the old highway, which is still under construction, but far better than what it was earlier. Once you cross Baroda it is all awesome till you hit Bombay.
Yes, NE-1 doesn't allow two wheelers therefore, one is stuck with NH-8 which is a real pain in the B*TT. 100-odd km stretch which shouldn't have taken an hour, I ended up spending almost 3 hours each side. For 75% of the stretch, only one carriageway is functional for to-and-fro traffic. One has to keep hopping from one to the other side of carriageway on account of countless diversions! I did Ahamedabad to Vadodra was between 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, while return was between 1-3.30 a.m. on Sunday morning and trust me, timing of your ride has zilch impact on the time you would spend.

Beyond Vadodra, roads are pure joy to ride/drive, as has already been called out. Stick to NH-8 at Bharuch and you will be past Narmada in no time because of some smart traffic management - of filtering vehicles based on size - in place.

All the best for your ride!

Hi buddy,
Here is what you need. There are two expressways in this. One is ahemdabad and other is mumbai-pune. Both are to be avoided. Next to mumbai expressway is the old highway, please follow the old highway which in the end will actually give you a feel of an expressway. Also on the ahemdabad expressway I have seen people taking bikes but seemed like they were the locals. I basically avoided that. In case if you want to take chances just enquire with the locals if its a no trouble zone. But the old ahemdabad route is miserable. Sad single lane patchy road with barrrn lands on either side because of farms. Also when you are in udaipur zone be careful, people dont like to follow rules in that part.
Resources like med kit should essentially have muscle relaxants as this is going to super tire you.carry a cello tape with you, just in case mishap occurs cover the wound with a cloth and tie the tape around to stop bleeding. I recently did bangalore to himachal and the journey was little tough due to scorching heat starting from humid mumbai.when you enter rajasthan I would advise to travel only during the day as there are long stretches of barren lands and you can expect completely empty roads and you riding alone for a long time. Carry body armor. You definitely need every single body part covered. Carry a knife and a torch too with extra batteries. Vadodara stretch is also accident prone zone basically because of a ton of junctions. Cheers ride safe

Ok now that is a relief. Is there a land mark where I move onto the Kishangarh bypass like a signboard or something. Asking cause it is very possible for me to just fly through without even noticing unless I know what to look out for. Atleast that way I can sak the pillion to be on the lookout roundabout the Kishangarh area. I tend to get too lost in the whole experience of being free that I tend to miss these small cuts etc etc... :P

Ha ha well its India .. thats normal ... Are your sure it doesnt allow cars ? how blissful would that be .. hehehe :P

Regarding your bike, if it is so new, you have nothing much to worry about, just carry basic spares, carry rain gear and make sure all your luggage is ready to take on the monsoons, you should be sorted and not have too much of a problem. Since you will be sticking to NHs, there is not much to worry about.
Yups its pretty new and am carrying the basic spares although looking for a good toolkit .. the OEM Bajaj NS toolkit .. well to put in very sublimely is no good... although NS folks to know what all adjectives could be fit in here :P

Wow.. bangalore to himachal sounds killer ... what route did you take mate ?

I walk away to ride another day

Day 1 i have already answered your queries. Day 2 as much as possible, don't know about the last stretch to Nashik.

Day 3 Nashik to Pune is a stone's throw away, people go back and forth to have lunch, so wouldn't even bother helping you out for this!!!!

Day 4 Pune - Bangalore is a breeze. Lovely roads and you can make good time. In case you encounter heavy rain and are unable to make good time to Bangalore. Stay the night in Hubli.

But to be quite honest. This is my REAL opinion. Junk such minute planning. Just get on your bike and ride with the aim of reaching your destination for the day, in case you can't make it to your destination. Stop before it gets dark at any reasonable looking hotel/ lodge. Over-planning doesn't make for fun trips! The best segments of my rides have been when i have got lost and when i have made impromptu decisions.

Anyways if you still want more information, keep asking, we will keep answering to the best of our abilities
