well apart from the above mentioned destinations one can also do delhi-rishikesh-devprayagd-srinagar- ukhimath-chopta- deoria tal. I did this in jan2007 and stayed the first night in devprayag and then went to Ukhimat and then explored chopta and deoria tal.

The other place good to explore is the nauchiketa tal near Uttarkashi. And form Uttarkashi, one can go ahead to Harsil, which again is a brilliant place. The route: Delhi- rishikesh-narendra nagar-chamba-cham-uttarkashi-Harsil
For nauchiketa tal, you can keep uttarkashi as your base.
Am attaching a few of my pics of deoria tal and chakrata(DEOBAND)
      Fantastic pics with Film....
One can also opt for trekking towards Tunganath. the trekking route starts from Chopta. But you will rarely get any traffic enroute...

some pics from my last year ride...
      towards Chopta

      Day 1: Delhi-Moradabad bypass-bazpur-jim corbett-ranikhet-karnprayag-joshimath
550 km. Will be hectic but the road goes through amazing landscapes.

      Day 2: joshimath-Auli and back-karnprayag-Srinagar
      Hardly 200 km i guess.
Auli provides a beautiful view of the Nanda Devi. The road from Joshimath to karnprayag is slightly rocky but its adjacent to the alakhnanda river(i guess tht was the river )

      Day 3: Srinagar-dev prayag-rishikesh-Delhi
Dev prayag is beautiful. Approx distance is round about 330 km +/- 20

Will add the pics of my trip later

Infact, here are the pics on picasa

      It's a very scenic route...

@ Ken cool: I've formally studied photography and use a Nikon FM 10(a 35mm flm manual SLR) I've seen your work and it's brilliant. let's share and learn finer nuances of the art. That's what I believe in.

Okay the distances and day wise break Up.

Trip 1: Delhi- Ukhimath(Chopta and Deoria Tal)
        Day 1 Delhi-haridwar-rishikesh- Devprayag: around 300kms.
        Day 2 Devprayag-srinagar-rudraprayag-Ukhimath:around 105kms.
Day 3:One can do both chopta and deoria tal, if you get up early. Chopta is 20 kms from Ukhimat and for Deoria tal, go till sari village on the Ukhimat-chopta route. Then one has to trek for roughly 3-5 kms.
        Day 4 Ukhimath-Delhi: 415kms.

GMVN guest houses are there in Devprayag, Srinagar, rudraprayag and ukhimath.

Petrol is available till srinagar for sure. Don't know about rudraprayag and Ukhimath.

        Trip 2

Delhi- Uttarkashi (nachiketa tal and Dayara Bugyal)

        Day 1 : Delhi-haridwar-rishikesh-narendranagar-chamba-uttarkashi:around 375kms.
        Day 2: Uttarkashi- Nachileta Tal
ride till Chaurangi Khal which is around 30 kms away form the main town. Then one has to trek for 4kms to reach the tal.

        Day 3: Dayara Bugyal
Located at a distance of 32 kms, this place is a meadow with a lake and an amazing view of the snow clad himalayas.

Day 4: Uttarkashi- delhi: 375 kms.

There is a GMVN rest house in Uttarkashi.

@Archi: Dude i couldn't go to tugnath, as in chopta not a single soul is to be seen in January. But, that trek is on my list.

@LP: Hope this will help you in planning your trip.

        Thanks abhishek.

Am attaching a few more pics of the trip.

Hey Aryan, I shoot on film for my own personal use and i love it. There is this whole charm associated with it and i do my own B&W Printing. I simply love the fine detailing and the tones one gets on the film. But, I've shot on Nikon D3 and Canon EOS 5d professionally. And I am saving up for D3

@Anshul - The plan & break up given is fantastic. But that has landed me in trouble, m greatly confused among all these plans.

Every hour my mind diverts like an uncontrolled horse..... anyways more the options, more trips in pipeline.
I'm still keen on doing Rohru but nothing sure unless I hit the road....

Long time no updates here! Thought i'd add another one of my sojourns. Well this one's a 5 day trip from delhi but its well worth the leaves, if you working that is

                            Day1 Delhi-Sarahan..around 500 kms, 11-12 hrs
                            Day2 Sarahan-Sangla...4 hours
Day3 Sangla-Chitkul-Kalpa..by mid afternoon you should be in kalpa.
                            Day4 Kalpa-Narkanda
                            Day5 Narkanda-Delhi

The baspa valley is spectacular during blossom..Kinnaur, apple country..

You can do this in 4 days as well, but then u would have to ride all the way from kalpa the last day. If u have some experience in riding the himalays, then go for it. I did sangla chandigarh in a little over 9 hrs, for delhi it would be around 14.
