  • @Inder: There is no mystery as such. Just want to go there and see for myself how the place is, in actual, before posting it up here.

As for your second query, yes, a great deal of why I want to get some other motorcycle is because the P200 is giving me intermittent problems off-late.

P.S: I'll surely get some macros (and landscapes ofcourse).
    :)

    • @ Aryan: Then the P220 S is THE bike for you coz it has the same looks as a 200..so when ever u see it you would image it to be ur (previous) 200 only..but in terms of power you would feel a bit more than usual.

All the best for your trip.

      • @Inder: I am at Haldwani right now, which is the foothills to the Kumaon region. I managed to travel to Almora, Bageshwar, and most importantly Chaukori, where I spent two days (23rd and 24th). I'll be reaching Delhi tomorrow afternoon/ early evening, after which I'll write a detailed description about the place (Chaukori) along with a few photographs.

P.S: The night temperature at Chaukori last night was an amazing -2 (yes! Minus two) degrees celsius and I went out, took a nice one hour long stroll on the village roads! Absolute, heaven I tell you.
        :)

            • @Inder: Yes, -2 degrees celsius. And you know what? My "body parts" move better when the temperature dips below zero degree celsius, I realized this!

As for the logs, well, I didn't go by motorcycle, as my P200 has been down with some sort of "mood-swings" lately, whereby she just intermittently shuts down on it's own. I didn't want to take a chance.

However, I'll share a few details and photographs on this thread itself, for information sake, once I am back in Delhi tomorrow (26th January!) evening.

Then i guess you are MADE to be live there, if you can withstand those tempratures..

Would love to, really! But, we urban dwellers are so bloody used to the "luxuries" of life, I am not sure whether I would actually be able to stay for the rest of my life in place like Chaukori, but I won't mind those kinds of temperatures.

Ya, that's absolutely true..now that we have got used to all these luxuries..we wont be able to cope up with the not so luxurious life out there.

But, one can think of such an option after the retirement though..wat say..?

The roads are good most of the way, with a few exceptions of course. However, for a biker, it is very much rideable albeit a little risky at times. If you do plan to ride there, don't grow over-confident at any moment of time.
                        :)

                          • Okay, here is my little informative guide, if you may call it, on Chaukori followed by a few photographs.

Text and Photographs Copyright: Aryan (Bobby) - xBhp.com

Chaukori is a tiny village, located at over 7,200 feet above sea level, in the Pithoragarh district. Located among the lofty peaks of the western Himalayan Range in the Kumaon Division of Uttarakhand, it is a brilliant little village to spend some quiet time.

To the North of Chaukori lies Tibet and to the south is Terai. The Mahakali River, running along its eastern boundary, forms the Indo-Nepal international border.

Chaukori's elevation is 7,200 feet, with a spectacular view of the snowy peaks of Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot and the Panchchuli peaks. It is approximately 10 km from Berinag, another little hill station.

This past long weekend, I was there for photography purposes and simply to chill. Here are a few photographs of Chaukori, as seen from my lens. If you guys want more photographs, let me know, and I'll oblige.

                            Route: Delhi - Hapur - Gajraula - Moradabad - Rampur - Rudrapur - Haldwani (250 odd kms.)
The route, once hills star is: Haldwani - Almora - Bageshwar - Chaukori (230-240 kms. odd)

From Haldwani, you can either catch a bus, which takes about 8 hours to drop you to Chaukori, or you can take a shared cab. If you do plan to take a shared cab, please bear in mind that you would need to change the cab at several places, as there is no one cab that goes directly to Chaukori. However, you can hire an entire cab for Rs.2000/- which would directly drop you to Chaukori.

You can continue on to Munsiyari from Chaukori, which is around 100 odd kms. from Chaukori. My initial plan was to stay at Chaukori on 23rd and move onto Munsiyari on 24th, but I absolutely fell in love with the place, and skipped Munsiyari for this time.
