Yes yes.. i have the same question. Pics like these fool us into going upto shimla every now and then to experience the snow :-) And i have never been lucky in Shimla with regards to snow

@Mod: Can we have a seperate thread about various places. No OT comments, just info on those places by people who live/have been there. Most of the content is already there in various travelogues, but this could be a centralized xbhp-wikitravel kind of place.

          • 3 day chakrata - Tehri ride.

This particular ride is very leisurely paced.

Day 1: Delhi - Yamuna Nagar - Paonta Sahib - Chakrata
Horrible roads. I would advise people to take the diversion from Ambala which has better roads.
            Time taken: 8 hours max
Leave early to get a dekko at tiger falls ( which is 14 km further down from chakrata)

            Day 2: Chakrata- Devban - Chakrata - Mussoorie - Chamba (U.K) - Tehri - Stay at Chamba.

Go upto Devban ( doable but tough with pillion)
From Chakrata to Mussoorie - beautiful single lane road going through hilly villages and no traffic at all. Markers are an issue. Tip: Take the older road or just wait for villager directions :-)
Mussoorie to Chamba-Tehri beautiful roads. Take a dekko of the Tehri lake and the dam. Ride back to Chamba.

Time taken: sunrise to sun down.

            Day 3:
            Chamba - Rishikesh - Delhi

Chamba to Narendranagar stretch is beautiful and gives an amazing view of the plains. Rishikesh is bypassed if you take the Narendranagar route and then its the familiar ride back through Khatauli - Canal road - Muradnagar - Delhi

            Time taken : 7 hours

              • Rajasthan in June can get scorching hot!

@Anants: Within a span of 300 odd kms. (give or take about 50-80kms. more), you can reach Pauri. It's a lovely place, with some really cool environement to chill. Alternatively, you can move on to Kasauli or Shimla even, if you prefer Himachal. Shimla is a commercial place to visit these days, but it is a nice place nonetheless.

                    • Another route to get to Kasauli from Chandigarh, for all you adventure seekers:

Chandigarh - Pinjore (Take a left from here) - Barotiwala - Haripur - Patta - Baandh - Gadkhal - Kasauli.

That makes it 3 different routes to get there!

All of 80 kms! A wonderfully scenic route. I did it yesterday, and shall post a thread of the same, plus a small review of the R-15 which was my companion for the ride

                        • Hi Guys,
Me and a couple of my friends were planning for a trip to LEH. But with the recent flash floods, we have to back out and postpone our trip.
So we were thinking, instead of cancelling our flight tickets (from blore) and bike rentals, do we hav any places arnd delhi for 8 days tat we can ride to.
All of us are from south and any idea's/help would be appreciated.

                          Thanks,
                          Sathya

                            • Note: Folks planning for the upper reaches of Himachal i.e. places like Kinnaur, Spiti, Lahaul, Pangi, Bharmour etc should deter their plans till atleast the second week of September. The situation all across is pretty bad. Their have been many landslides that have blocked major arterial routes in Himachal. For instance Batal - Gramphoo is closed and the Sutlej water levels have increased, near Rampur on the NH-22.

So I would strongly advise highlands of Himachal, atleast till August end.

Places like Kangra/Chamba/Dalhousie/Narkanda types are fine.

                              This is FYI!
