  • The Northern Chapter: Part II

Well as the name suggest, this is gonna be a ride to the northern most regions of India: Ladakh. Having done Spiti back in 2015 solo in 6 days flat, which was the Northern Chapter Part I, now its time to go higher.

I plan to ride solo and have the choices of (most probably) my yet to be delivered TB500 or Bajaj Dominar. Any which way, I would be comfortable to ride either.

Researching and reading many different threads, I'm nothing less than confused. Requesting you all to kindly curate an itinerary for me considering the following points:

    1. Starting 18th June, ending 1st July; no buffer day, ex Delhi
    2. Would prefer pitching my own tent, need inputs on sleeping bags that could keep me warm through the night
    3. If 15 days are enough, I would love to love to do the Tso Moriri circuit and possibly visit Hanle if time permits.
    4. Plan to go via Manali and come back via Srinagar.
    5. how much extra fuel to carry and to what all places?
    6. I guess as per the new ruling ILP are required even for Indian nationals, so I'm supposing that it would not be possible for me to reach Tso Moriri (considering permits are issued at DC office, Leh) which I had planned earlier. If this could be done, nothing like it...need more clarity over this

So, since i'm head over heels over this I'm thinking to follow the below plan:

    Day 0: Delhi-Chandigarh/the farthest I could go
    Day 1: Chandigarh/Farthest Point-Jammu
    Day 2: Jammu-Srinagar
    Day 3: Srinagar
    Day 4: Srinagar-Kargil
    Day 5: Kargil-Leh
Day 6: Leh (in and around, get ILPs)
Day 7: Leh-K Top-Turtuk (pitch my own tent)
Day 8: Turtuk-Pangong/Spangmik (pitch my own tent)
Day9: Pangong-Spangmik-Karzok (pitch my own tent)
Day 10: Karzok-Tso Kar-Jispa (pitch my own tent, need advise on the possibility of this stretch considering the zingzingbar nallah)
    Day 11: Jispa-Manali
    Day 12: Manali
    day 13: Manali-Delhi

Please let me know if this is doable considering I could have just 2 more days on hand to add.

Looking forward to all your expert responses.

      You can easily do this.

Also on the first day you can reach Phatankot with ease.

Have some buffer time on everyday rides in J&K and on Leh manali highway. Have 1 or 2 buffer days too to accommodate dynamic plans.

      1. Have buffers man!
      2. Take a 0 or -10 degree compatible sleeping bag, and a 4 season tent. Check whether before pitching tent.
      3. No, idea on this point
      4. Plan to go via Manali and come back via Srinagar. - upto your convenience. But normally I prefer the other way.
      5. Better to carry 5L - 10L of petrol post kargil - There are no pumps on Leh-Manali highway after you cross Karu towards Manali. (This was in 2014)
      6. No idea on this point

Rest you can get guided by the logs. There are so many of them.

This is the link to mine.
