They are of diiferent compound so it does not matter to those tyres, and Patch they are running their bikes is not like Indian Roads!Originally posted by Lost Soul View Posti have a query
, when a bikes tyre gets worn out why does its grip decrease ?
motogp bikes have no treads and so on good ,dry roads grip should be great . why its not so ?

+1. Race tyres also becomes sticky as it gets hotter. So a slick sticky tyre on a clean dry and smooth surface will provide maximum contact + grip. Normal street tyres rubber will degrades as it age. Remember, race tyres are designed for a single race. Regular street tyres are designed to last for a long time.Originally posted by L.P. Dear L.P, I still have to figure out what exactly do we mean by Soft compound, hard compound, semi-hard, semi-soft compound. are we talking about the TMT+Zinc Oxide+Sulphur+China Clay content in it??? If so, how different is the composition of a Hard compound tyres to that of Soft Compound tyres? Pardon me for my ignorance, but I go Stone Cold when asked about the compond of the tyre I am running my steed on!Its not about the BHP or the CC, its about one common religion called Biking!!!

There are three different parts to your question. First is the grip level as per tread. Second is the grip level as per tyre compound. Third is decrease of grip level as per tire degradation.Originally posted by Lost Soul View Posti have a query

1. If you put a motogp bike anywhere near Indian road conditions it would be pretty much all over the place. A motogp bike is designed for the tracks. There are different treads for dry and wet. You will see that the as soon as there is rain, they change to a different tread. For indian road conditions, I guess the dual purpose tread design is the best.
2. Soft compound offer the best grip levels. But they wear out faster. Harder the compound, the less the grip levels. But in trade, you get more tyre life. Harder compounds generally last much longer than soft compound tires.
3. When a tire gets worn out after a period of time, the profile of the tire changes slowly and the tread also wears out slowly. Due to both of these reasons you will get inconsistent grip levels across different kinds of road conditions.
EDIT: All of the above, are just the answers related to the specified query. Grip level vary according to many other things like conditions like tarmac, contact patch, tyre pressure and other variables.Last edited by pranay; 09-02-2009, 07:23 PM.DoN\'t LivE tO DiE, dIe tO LiVe

Ok thanks guys . i modify my query now . if the R15 soft tyre gets worn out and wear is totally even will it provide better grip in clean smooth roads ?
why would the motogp bike's slick tyre be all over if roads are clean and dry and smooth ?The movie Dhoom is loosely based on my Life

^^^ may be not.
(though it would be absurd to comment on such a thing we don't know about - tyres probably play the second or third most important role in an F1 / MotoGP race after the engine & aerodynamics and their engineering is a completely separate leaf in technology.)
The R15's tyre rubber is not as soft compound as those slicks. But I get this is the closest to a slick that is made in India
