I have been doin a lil study on tyre treatments and softners and ive read that there is a way to soften up hard compound tyres,
Quite a few go carters and dirt track users do this and even drag racers,
Drag racing puts immense pressure on tyres and soft compound tyres just rip up with the g forces also in dirt riding too hard compound tyres are a death trap in sludge and wet mud.
Now,
I have a dunlop monster 3.00/18 for my bike that I didnt use for more than 3000km because of the hard compound. I will be experimenting in this tyre and will be posting results next month since I am a little busy with college and work and family. But couldn't help sharing the idea.
Now
This is the method to soften up the tyres
Stuff you need is
- WD-40*about 200ml
- Toluene*200ml
-Alcohol or paint thinner 200ml
-Acetone 100ml
- a brush
- lots of toilet paper
- gloves
- saftey goggles
-air tight container (old engine oil can wil do fine)
- grit 80 sand paper
-large plastic bag so that the tyre can get in it
Mix them up well and let them sit for about 30 mins and the put them in a air tight can.
Rub the surface of the tyre with the sand paper and get it ito the tread knooks and crannies....
Dont rub the side wall or inner surface.
Dont put the liquid on the tyre walls or inner surface.
Put the liquid you made with the brush on the tyre treads etc.... and let it dry for 20 mins, then apply another coat again let it dry for 20 mins, apply another coat and let it dry for 20 mins, do 5 such coates,
Now, wrap the toilet paper on the tyre, and apply the mixture generously.... let all toilet paper soak it up on the tyre face.... then put the wet tyre wrapped in the toilet paper in the plastic bag and tie it and let it sit overnight or for 24 hours.
Next day open it and repeat the process.
Repeated application will soften the tyre even further but dont make it too soft
We live in pothole heven india:P

Voila a softer tyre:P
Please do this in a well ventilated area,
People with spare tvs and other old tyres can give it a try
Pretty cheap fix.
If you want to spend a little cash youcan buy tyre softner compounds online but you will have to do the same method, or you can make your own compound with the above ingredients.
Ps:- at ur own risk,.. evry1 rites this I must too. Standard policy.
divyansh....

, what i have readed about these tyre softeners is that by using xylene, tolulene and acetone you make your tyre soft but with it they also become weak, i was reading some articles of drag racer and they says, soaking of tyres do make them soft but for not very long, infact in racing all of this soaking vanishes in mere one lap, soaking tyres in kerosene also make them softer, another way is mixing one part thinner and one part diesel, using a paint roller apply this solution on tyres, let the tyres dry and repeat the process, but don't oversoak them, it cold ruin the tyre, so pls keep a watch bro.
