  • Disappointment at Saifee tyres-Mumbai

Hi guys...tried to enquire about 17" at Saifee tyres in Santacruz, Mumbai yest..they rudely kept my fone saying that they dont do 2-wheeler enquires on fone-as if i was begging them to give me the tyres for free!
so i went there in da evening to check out personally...wen i enquired about nylozapper FS, he looks blankly at me....i askd about any other tubeless ones in 17", he says tubeless tyres are not made for 2wheelers! i said of course they do...so many ppl use them...he says then maybe theres no demand...i askd for M45...he looks blankly again..."Michelin?", i offer helpfully...he says there are no Michelins for 2 wheelers!
I walk out without a further word....
...and to think this place was recommended by my dad as well an uncle!

      • Here's an impromptu review of the Dunlop Monster 100/90-18 rear tyre.

A tyre that looks like it was modeled after the Michelin M45, this tyre cost ~Rs. 1300 and has served reasonably well over the 11,000 km it has seen.

I'd call this a decent all-round performer, with great grip on clean tarmac, confidence inspiring performance over dirt and tarmac covered with loose sand and a certain sure-footedness in the wet.

The bike has mostly seen city roads - which account for about 85% of its use. Tyre pressure has been maintained between 30-32 psi, with the help of a pocket tyre gauge. Tyre pressure was checked at regular intervals.

It however looks like the Monster needs replacement, after 11k+ km. The tyre has much of its tread left, except in the central-most contact area, where some wear is evident, giving it a flattish appearance. This has robbed it of its performance and grip, which is especially evident in the wet. And when I say wet, I mean roads that have absolutely no standing water. The bike has gone from being confident and surefooted in the wet to slipping and sliding like there's no tomorrow when the roads are wet. Going by the tread wear indicators, I'd estimate the tyre has 50% of its service life remaining.

All in all, this tyre is a good perfromer, and recommended to anyone who is willing to change tyres early, without waiting for the tyre to become bald.

I'm in the market for a replacement and while I want a tubeless 110/90, it looks like I may settle for the Zapper Q, which is hopefully available in the 110/90-18 size. Anyone have a Zapper-Q 110/90-18? I know it is listed on the mrf-exports site, but is not available in Hyderabad to my knowledge.

        • u can also go for pirelli sport demon(i guess that is the name) 110/90-18" tyres....my friend has that on his karizma and it perfroms really way better than the stock tyres....
You can take the ride away from me but you cannot take the rider out of my soul.........

          • Went to Sai Iyengar again.. same story, he tried to persuade me by telling 4.00x18 is same as 100/90... you'll avoid hospital bills, amazing grip etc.. I'm telling him yeah I know I've been running michelin till now, but 4.00x18 is too big.. then he said go on internet 4.00x18 is 100/90 I've been doing this business since many years

anyway managed to pick up 3.25x18 for 1350 without tube at JC road , had paid 1500 last time at sai..

Anybody got recommendations for a good front tyre? 2.75x18 and not mrf zapper full sucks(fs).. also cost...

            • Hey guys did my fair bit of research online to find out the approximate conversion between inch system and metric system .Here is what i could gather.
              Inch Metric
              3.00~ 80
              3.25~ 90
              3.50~ 100
              3.75~ 110
              4.00~ 120
When you try and convert inches to mm in an exact manner this wont match.More over the parameters also vary from one manufacturer to another. You must have already noticed Michelin m45 4*18 is nearly as wide as a 120 section tire.
I know this information is already present in a scattered format throughout this this thread, but i thought its better to put it in one place in this post.I am also adding a link to Mrf tyre catalogue which gives details regarding section width overall diameter et all

                      • When I was searching for a 17" tyres(front + rear) for my Pulsar 150 v2, all the dealers at Cochin told me that it's really difficult to get 17" tyres(front + rear) in the market.

Is that true since Pulsar is still the top seller in the 150cc segment and if you don't get Pulsar's tyre which bike's would you get ?

Nope, not at all true!!! Most tire shops sell more 17-inchers than 18-inchers. Verified it myself the last time I bought. If no Pulsar tire, then probably R15 tires

                            • MRF Zapper Q

For anyone who is looking in Hyderabad/Secunderabad:

The Zapper Q 110/90-18 is available at the MRF Tyre showroom at Ranigunj in Secunderabad. The price is Rs. 1600 for a tyre-tube set.

                              Showroom: MG Tyres
                              Phone: 27542157
Location: MG Road, Al-Karim Trade Centre

I looked at another couple of shops before heading down to this store. A guy at 'Yamini Tyres' on MG Road claimed he could procure this same tyre for me at Rs. 2650! Bl00dy crook. SR Pai tyres in the same area told me he didn't have the tyre and directed me to the MRF showroom.

The alloy wheel the the Zapper Q 110/90 mounted and the Dunlop Monster removed.
