    • Pulsar alloys & tyres for Unicorn

      Hi

Is it recommended to fit Pulsar alloys & tyres on Unicorn only 100/90.

      1. Do i need to re-sprocket.

      2. & also why the Pulsar's 100/90 are fatter than unicorn's 100/90.

      Please advise.

      Thanks in advance.

If i use 17 " for Unicorn what will be the trouble.

            1. will it effect suspension, ground clearance, top end or stability.

From what little I know and have learnt is that:

                1. It will affect group clearance, since the radius of the tyre+alloy is shorter.

                2. It will affect engine revs, because the tyre will spin that much faster to attain the same speed, therefore, the engine will rev higher adding strain on the engine.

                3. Point 2 can be countered by adding a bigger rear sprocket, but that would affect chain length, so u might need to alter front sprocket size.

                4. by altering sprocket sizes, gear ratios will change. There might be a way to recalibrate gear ratios, u'll need a auto/mech engineer for that.

I just mentioned about these if u want the bike to be performing to its optimum. Of course, I know a guy who changed his Rajdoot 19" tyres to Yezdi's 16" tyres and he says his bike is fine!

To each his own, but I'd rather prefer letting the bike perform to its optimum than anything else. I am willing to be corrected with the above points if I am wrong anywhere, but I think u'll have to consider these points before changing the tyre sizes.

                my 2 cents.

                  That is enough for me.

                    1. tyres + alloys combo will shorter only if u fit not so broad tyre .... i fitted 120\80-17 on 1.85x17" rim and my final wheel dia [25.4" smthin] is more then the previous installation [3"x18" ; 24.3 " smthin]

statements on red are totaly WRONG.

                    3. brah when tyre dia reduces it is the LOWEND that is at lead u want to counterbalance that by fitting SMALLER sprocket ,which is applied for speed[topend]
more over chain lenght can b adjusted by adjusting wheel axel on swing arm which can b done on all bikes..... no need to mess with front sprocket.. dont think even..unless ur sprocket is HUGE!!

                    4. gears are solid MESH not adjustable screws [OMG LOL] , btw only final gear ratio will change that involves front and rear sprocket!!

(I generally take the R15 out for the highway... but then, being used to the R15's amazing handling, I am yet find a fault with this tyre!). Cannot compare it to Dunlops or Ceats as I haven't ridden another Victor with those tyres on. And among the other Speldours, Passions and Hoodibabas I rode off late, I feet them not as good and as such the Victor handles better & is more stable than those bikes.

The tyre didn't throw any tantrums during the monsoons either. I was discussing this with Ravi earlier... surprisingly good quality for the price I've paid.

Yes, though there is no loss of grip, my stock TVS tyre had a better feel while cornering
Sounds good. Should be worth considering, I guess. The TVS tyres I saw recently do look cool... but the rubber definitely feels harder to touch than Dunlops and Ceats... so I decided against it.

Any idea if using different brands for front and rear causes any issues? I now have a new Dunlop in the rear (Shogun)... and am considering Michelin for the front... if I can get the right size front fitment tyre. Else will have to go for Dunlop or Ceat. Zapper FV not available in any shop I checked.

My guess is, the front would cost around Rs. 1000 and the rear around 1500, for the Michelin, lower for the MRF. These prices are for a tyre/tube set.

To be frank, I dont really remember the IRC pattern. Saw that in Feb or something.
As for the R15 tyres, they are expected to last around 10K kms from what I hear. Too short a life span, but they say that the grip's worth it. R15 owners: Any inputs/comments on this?

My R15 did only Highways (where the tyres run pretty hot & get good beating). It did it's fair share of off roading too. The odo reads close to 15K and the tyres should last another 10K minimum. This, despite the fact that a lot of rubber got burnt in those 400 KMs when I had to run the bike with very low pressure due to a bent rim.

i think u can go ahead with the ceat vertigo,i am using them in my rear, for the past 10000kms.The only problem i felt are the two parallel grooves which create stability problems during lane changing that is when u drive over the white road markers.Rest grip in wet is good, morover it hasnt effected my bikes mileage
