  • Interesting to note that m45 is being used as tubeless. Being a tube tyre, I wonder if the sidewalls are strong enough to be used as tubeless. As far as I know, the tube tyres do not have the strength on the sidewalls to substitute tubeless tyres. Doesn't that add extra stress to the tyre?

Are the Michelin pilot sporty tyres easily available? What kind of tread does it have and what type of terrains can it be used on confidently?

The sidewalls of the M45 arent strong, I have had a very tough time pushing my bike when it got punctured, the sidewalls are just too weak. The pilot sporty is excellent on tar and cement roads, off roading is very bad.

Being in Bangalore, pure tar/cement tyre like the Michelin Sporty may be a good tyre, but I do some long rides also which can include some bad roads as well. I am not sure if the sporty would be suitable then. The M45 is a very good dual-purpose tyre and I am looking for something similar but in the tubeless variety.

Any names coming into mind? Would any IRC tyres that will suit the bill?

              • I would like to share the following information with members on xBhp.

The following is the positioning of MICHELIN Tyres in India

SIRAC Street - On Road Comfort and Off Road Control.
SIRAC - On Road & Off Road - Go Anywhere tyre.
M45 - Perfectly suited for urban use.
M62 - Heavy Duty tyres for Urban and Rugged Road use.
                M35 - For Urban / City use.
PILOT Sporty - For Highway / City use.

Each of these tyres is the best tyre for the application it is intended for but not the ideal tyre for an application outside its intended use. Eg. Pilot Sporty is a perfect tyre for tarmac runways and smooth roads but if it is used for riding in Off Road conditions, the experience would not be confidence inspiring.

Also Tyre meant for use as Tube Type, if used as Tubeless, may result in unexpected behaviour. Tyre walls are built to be flexible to expand with air pressure of tube inside. Tubeless tyreshave a more rigid sidewall because of the additional layer of butyl rubber which substitutes for the tube.

                    • thanks a ton for your responses worrisomebear & bprags.

Having not been a regular at xbhp for the past 6 months does show... I am not in touch with most of the discussion. Hence had to ask.

I had two main concerns about using the M45 as tubeless. The sidewall Strength (already answered to an extent) & the ability to hold puncture patches.

I mean, if there's a puncture, how safe is it on an M45 as tubeless in terms of not loosing control? I am asking in relation to how well it holds the air and how well the side walls support the weight.

Also, when we to a tubeless puncture repair on the M45, how well do the seals hold up?

                      • is this for vishnu's rtr? Better not to use it as a TL anna. In case of puncture the sidewall might fail! Else i had the option of making it a TL for my zma. I decided against it only for this reason.

Man, I say avoid making M45 tubeless, I have had a torrid time with it during punctures, the tyre does not have strong sidewalls as mentioned by Go Green, if you have a puncture the bike literally stands on the rims without any support from the tyres (due to weak sidewalls).

Performance wise M45 is very good.

                            • Guys please suggest a good set of tires for R15 other than OE ones. I need decent grip both on good roads and bad. I want the sizing to be as close to stock as possible, which is 80/90x17 front and 100/80x17 rear.
                              I live in coimbatore.

                              Thank you.

Which of the above are tubeless and what sizes do they come in? I only know that M45 is a tube tyre and also comes in 100/90-18. There isn't much info on the michelin website either, very inconsistent.
