  • [xBhp Universal Thread]: Errors in the Registration Certificate (RC Card)

    Guys,

How many of us actually look at the RC card and verify the accuracy of anything and everything that is written over there?

I got a brand new Ninja 250R recently, and last week when I contacted BAJAJ Pro biking guys to enquire about the RC card, I was informed that it has come and I can collect it anytime. When I reached there office and collected the card I found out that everything else is correct but it says 01 against the "No. of Cylinders". I was shocked, as Ninja 250R is a twin cylinder bike. Upon protesting I was informed that this issue is with the registration authority of the government and they cannot do anything about it. When I protested and said that I will not leave them and will definitely lodge a formal complaint, they took my card and assured me that it will be corrected soon.

Later on I contacted some friends of mine, who have super bikes (busa, Honda fire blade, etc.). They said that this is a regular phenomenon and the problem indeed is with the registration authority, as they refuse to put anything but 01 in that particular column.

All I wanted to say to everyone is that please be aware and check your RC card. If there is such an error, then you might have problem selling your bike in future (this happened with a friend who wanted to dispose of his 10 month old busa to Bittoo bike wala, but they refused as the RC card was incorrect. Eventually he paid Rs. 4,000/- to 5,000/- bribe to get it corrected from the registration authority).

I will certainly not pay any bribe and will fight till I get the registration card of my bike corrected. I think it's high time that all the manufacturers of super bikes/ mini super bikes take this matter with higher officials in the government and ensure that we customers are not impacted in any manner. What say?

but that is common. i faced it with my bike's registration as well. i dont think selling bike should be an issue, since the cubic capacity, chassis number and engine number will be printed on the R/C.

The number of cylinders should be less important than all these entries should be filled correctly.

Yeah i dont see how this can be an issue....but yeah stupid by the RTO !it will be hard for them to change the habit of entering "1" in that column since they have been use to it for ages!

While most of us don't see an issue here, it might create issues when it comes to insurance claims. The insurance company could bluntly refuse any claims that are high claims stating that the RC is incorrect & that way they can evade a payment. This is just a possibility I see due to incorrect statement.

Another possibility could be is when the cops check for certificates they could extort money stating its our negligence & we did not follow up with RTO

If something is to be done in a way, why isn't being followed? If RTO knows to collect every single forms signed, attested, proofs & photostats from us, why the sheer negligence in their job? Is it because they think we're jokers?

Just voicing out my opinion to say, this act of RTO is not acceptable & is a mere negligence of duty.

Well, My RC for R15 had following details but I sold it without any problem.

Model: Yamaha YZF R1 BS II.
            Cubic capacity: 998cc.

Rest engine number, chassis were all correct. Good that they dint put life tax of Rs 98000/- on my R15.

My dad's initial was spelt worng on my RTR's RC. Registration was done by an agent thru the showroom. They simply asked me to leave as it is, coz getting it done is more of a hassle even when i was ready to pay for it.

              It still the same!

I had a P180 earlier and my RC book said P150 which was crossed out by the hand and corrected with a signature and a stamp.

even i had this kind of problem when i purchased my gladiator. The engine no. & chassis no. were printed same. After more than 6 months of struggle i got my RC corrected & without paying any bribe.

the engine number and chassis number and vehicle color are the important items to be looked into. Other than that the model should be identified correctly.

Negligence of RTO, they are used to enter 01 under Cylinders field in their Database, they even do not bother to check which Bike details they are updating. Well this will not cause any issue while selling or Insurance claims.
Unless you claim insurance for all Cylinder replacements.

Still its better to get is corrected so that there is no hassles in future.

You should have sold it as R1.
You should have said That it has an R1 engine in R15 chasis.

Basically, I want each and everything in order; when I am paying 3 odd lacs for a bike then why should I accept any nonsense.

I think its our "chalta hai" attitude, that should be changed first. I have taken this matter up with probiking guys, lets see what happens next.

As of now they are being considerate, when i have bought a brand new bike from Bajaj and when they have charged me 800- 1,000 rupees for a R.C. card, then it better be correct or else I will take their happiness.
