  • Help needed for tank guard protection.

My new bike will be delivered next week and while I had always waxed and polished my 2 year old ex ride which I recently sold. I am wary about getting any scratches on my new baby.

I have been reading about the 3M Paint Protection Film which is available in most outlets of 3M and perhaps available only for cars.

My inquiry is has any member here done the same treatment on their bike? Is there any good workshop or guy who can apply the film here in Mumbai? I find 3M a tad expensive even if for cars and I doubt if they cater to bikers.

Is there any other way apart from external applicants such as wax that can protect the paint. I am not keen on a tank bag or paste on sticker as the former might lead to minor scratches and paste on tank guard sticker only covers a small area of the tank.

    Help and suggestions needed

    Thanks in advance

I have got a 3M ppf job done last year at chennai for my CBR250R, to protect the tank. It is definitely is very skilled / tricky job to paste it on a motorcycle tank because of the curvature. I remember it taking 4-5 hours to complete.. The PPF film is stuck in 4 pieces, and inspite of the technician's best efforts, there is a small gap which remains between the segments. However, it is acceptable, and does the job in terms of protecting the tank from scratches, and has not come off yet after approximatedly 17 months of use.

I guess you can simply ask the 3M workshops in mumbai over phone and they will be able to confirm.

3m ppf should last for a really long time.
Ensure you don't regularly park your ur ride under the sun most of the time. It will strip the film and will be an eye sore after a few months.
The only problem is that the gaps might fill up with dust.

Thank you @theironhorse99, glad you liked it.

              Bike detailing costs around 600-3000rs.

Again, costs depend on various factors like city, products, bike, work involved etc.

If you would like to do it yourself. I can suggest a lot of products which will last for a long time and also is cost effective on the long run.

How to quick Detail a Motorcycle with minimum effort?

                    Basic Detail

                    1. WASH2. DEGREASE3. CLEAN THE CHAIN (Not mandatory in every quick detail)

Work a solvent-soaked (APC/ Diesel/Degreaser)rag along the chain, removing oil and grime.
Use a tooth brush, or Muc Off Brush Kit or different suitable brushes to cleanse the chain and the sprockets.

Products: Same Degreasing products mentioned above for Wheel Cleaning can be used. However, there are dedicated Chain Degreasers available in the market.

                    4. SOAP IT UP!

Ensure you always use a PH Neutral Shampoo to wash the bike. (Hair Shampoos/ Soap Oils have harsh chemical which might affect the lacquer, plus the bike doesn’t have hair )

Shampoos suggestions: There are aplenty available in the market Any Ph Neutral shampoo should work.

Use soaked microfibers to apply shampoo and rinse the shampoo off thoroughly with water/waterless wash concentrate as required.

                    5. Apply Chain Lube and lubricate the necessary areas as required.

                    6. Quick Detail:

Ensure the bike is completely dry, if yes, then use quick detailers/spray sealants and liquid waxes to achieve quick shine, good water beading and immediate gloss with minimum effort

                      how durable are these??

and more importantly, do they help in maintaining the bike, ex, rust resistance etc?? i mean, apart from the cleaning, cleaning always helps.

Most sealants that I have mentioned are durable for a long time may be three to five weeks(Daily ridden) These products do not help in removing rust or resisting rust. they only help keep your ride clean and gleaming.

To loosen/ remove rust you need products like rust lick/wd40 and to prevent you need anti rust coatings like SteelGuard Nano Coat / POR15.

                          Hello All,

Can we use 3M car care products on our motorcysles.

I have brought the following things :

                          1. 3M Car Wash Shampoo
                          2. 3M dashboard Dresser

Did not have any other options in my locality except this 3M.

Please suggest, if these can be used on our bikes.

                          Regards,

I have used the car wax on my bike so far and it worked wonders. My bike shines like new. The other products though seem like an overkill considering that you can just as well use regular shampoo for washing your bike. And what are you planning on using the dashboard dresser for?

For the price quoted on the site it is a vfm package deal. The wax polish alone costs about 250/- in shops.
