                        1. Shift up at 4-4.5 krpm, Shift down at 2.5 krpm. Mileage is more related to throttle than rpm.
For example, driving at 20 kmph in last gear will give less RPM, but mileage will be bad!

                        2. Maintain correct pressure on Tyres. 26 in front & 33 in rear is what I keep on my P180.

                        3. Keep the usual efforts on! (like switch off at signal/ stop, protect tank from sunlight, accelerate gently, etc.) Don't try that lower idle rpm trick, believe me, It doesn't work! Ever ...!

                        4. Try lower weight & small sized tyres, next time you replace them...

If still mileage is a BIG Priority/ Problem, you can try re-gearing it for top end & mileage. Like replace gearbox sprocket with a 14 teeth one. Stock teeth is 15, as my Rolon guide informs me! Acceleration will be less, mileage will improve.

@ Small OT: Guys, My Pulsar Stock tyres expired at 8000 kms (not giving good corner grip now). Now, I'll get R15 tyres through my Yamaha Dealer friend...

Although, I expect mileage to decrease, since small tyre width may result in lower gearing, but tyre weight is less too it seems. Let's see...

Regarding this part....i think that the more fuel is required in order to start the machine(happens with everything) rather keeping it running...!!

Well, in the day time, bikes start very quickly, like in about 1/2 second cranking.

I somehow find it more economical as, traffic does stop for about 2-3 minutes at signals.

Moreover, The starting energy is provided by the crank/kick, so, how can more fuel be consumed? ..?

Kinetic Honda Campus Chill (July 1999 to March 2004):- City:45, no highway!

TVS Fiero F2 (March 2004 till date):- City: 43-45, Highway: 47-48.

Yamaha R15 (July 2008 till date): City: 43, Highway: 47-48.

I was also a bit surprised at how both the bikes are giving approx.the same mileage under all conditions! To add to it, they have similar fuel tank capacities as well, so calculating is very easy for me!
