Difference between a GPS Tracker, Reciever and Navigator?

    Hey Guys, Here's my situation.

I have decided to go for a GPS device for I am going to tour a lot and To be safe and sure, I think it is important to have a GPS device alongside.

I Already have a Sony Ericsson W705 which comes with Google Maps. Although it is accurate upto 90% of times I have used the only things it misses out on is "My location" especially if I am on the move within the city and sometimes on NH's.... I also have a Blackberry Curve 8520 which has an option to connect a GPS device to it through usb/bluetooth.

    My Questions:

    1. Do I need to get a gps device in 1st place looking at the way Google maps on my sony ericsson is working? If we venture into the hills or some place remote, obviously the Data connections (GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA) not going to be guaranteed there..

    2. Whats the difference between a Tracker, Reciever and a Navigator? Is it enough for me to get a reciever since i can plug it to my BBerry? or do i need a tracker/navigator...

I have seen some GPS devices on ebay.in... mainly from Holux/Garmin

    Please Advice. Cheers!

Got a Chinese 5" GPS from a chinese shopping site (HK Based). I dont know if it is allowed or not to mention the site name here. It is working fine with almost all software and map like Sygic, Miero MM!, Garmin, Ndrive.
Buy a Cigerate lighter socket for Rs. 90/- Will fit it soon to my Apache RTR 160. I will use this GPS with my Bike.

^^Well all you need to do is select Yahoo! India Road maps on the site www.mapcacher.com and the downloader will do the rest for you. The output folder will be having the same name.

    • First of all, of course, get the phone. I am using a Nokia 6210 Navigator.
    • Ditch the Nokia Maps software, it's useless outside the 4-5 cities that are provided there.
    • Download MGMaps and install it on your phone
    • Go to the site Mobile GMaps - Map Tile Caching tools, download and install gMapMaker on your computer.
    • Go to www.mapcacher.com and select the area whose map you require, the map type, detail level and zoom levels required. Yahoo India road maps has the best coverage. Sinlge clicks are used to mark the area boundary. Clicking on generate will ask you to save a .map file.
    • Run gMapMaker and select the option "MGMaps mode, use a .map file" and click Go. Locate the .map file in your computer and let the apllication download map tiles for a while in the output directory specified.
    • Copy the output to your phone card and start MGMaps. In Settings, go to Map Browsing and tick Stored Maps and Offline Mode. Browse to the directory where you copied the maps and save the settings. Restart application.
    • Navigate to the area whose map you just copied.
Thanks for ur post....I knew it before, but don't want to read large procedure to try...but ur's is simple method put me to give a try, I am middle of ur method(i,e dloading).

Without the flag-bearers, we are nothing. It was your advice that I followed for the lighter attachment.

How do I access the stored maps from the mobile mgmaps application?
Any zoom level u desire. Zoom in with the site tool and you can see increased details. But more zoom = more download time = more size.

Nice idea, but costly as well. Maybe a better suited product than the jugads. But afterall, it's upto you. A charger is available from Roots India for Nokia (120 bucks); add 4 X converter pins and you can charge all the cells in India.
