    Hmm...something strange

I understand that, but somehow it leaked! It not only happened with my bike, but also with my friend's 220. Both the bikes went together in both the trips and parked for the same duration!

For refilling, do we need to check the pressure with the N2 dispenser or with normal air dispenser at fuel stations?

    • @ antz.bin: Thanks man. That explained a lot. So, is there any other way to get high performance/ heat from properly filled up tyres (on cold temp like you said)?

I mean, filling in lightweight gases like hydrogen/ helium, etc. We know rotational/ transmission-related mass is twice as effective as stationary mass. But then these gases are combustible & unsafe, right...?

Any other ideas which you think will work, regarding tyres only...?

Lemme try answering it ... Will see how close I got

Use warmers if you can but you cant use them sitting at every lights waiting for your tyres to get warn so they arent that practical if your bike is street only bike.
Fill it low and *know* how much psi its going to gain when it warms up. This hot pressure is what you shoot for when you are upto the task. The bike might feel less steerable or squishy in first few mins but once the temp rises you have the grip and the psi you wanted.
This will depend largely on rider weight, type of tyre, riding style and day/road temp. e.g. for track, I fill my NTECs as low as 21 (R) as the carcass is hard and wont flex at those pressures and will get to the heat fast... most of other trackday(not race) tyres will see pressures of 30/30 (cold) If I am using this on street... I will be using 34/36 even though manufacture recommendation is 36/42. In short, you need to adjust if you change something in your riding and need proper grip/wear.
Treat psi as the way to adjust your tyre temp. If you are still cold after say 10 mins run, you are high... if its too hot, you are running less and probably wearing off your tyres more than needed.
This is rear hoop of Aussie Pro-Stock winner Nick Water's Rear hoop after 14 laps of the Phillip Island last month. He finished second with it like this/ Day and track was super hot...

And its not really that they go all left/left and come to a right hander and prossibly drop the bike. Thats what warm up laps are there for just before. ...you will see more wear on left and less heat on right but not cold tyre on right side enough to cause a fall unless you were super greedy with throttle :P ...

well the theory goes like this. if you fill the air in the afternoon , the air filled up is already less dense due to heat. that's why it is recommended to fill up the air early morning. for a city ride the air inside the tyre won't get too hot. so psi while filling up must be what the manufacturer recommends. they recommend the pressures looking into these factors before hand keeping in mind of various conditions. so even if the air gets hot and expands, the tyre can withstand the additional pressure.

            • most people are over optimistic about nitrogen

first of all the nitrogen filling is a good business just like weighing machines in busstands and other public places.

second: nitrogen is used in racing because in case of Tyre burst it wont support fire
third: Tyre pressure remains constant due to its homogeneous state and its pphysical property thus saving fuel

and most of us use vehicle use for regular day to day activities so its only a cost add up to fill nitrogen in Tyre

its a real comedy as some guys feel even improvement in terms of vehicle handling

                Hai Guys
Just wanted to know the goodness and badness of using nitrogen in your tyres. If you like it please tell me the pros and if you do not like it the cons.

                  • Nitrogen or air, which one is better for tubeless tyres and why?

                    Hi,
I am riding P200NS, which is having tubeless tyres. Recently i went to service station to put on some air to the tyres, then he asked which one nitrogen or air. Till that moment i dont know we can put nitrogen also and even i dont which one is there in my bike tyres. So please suggest me which one is best and why.

After reading various forums, articles etc.. I have concluded that there is not much benefit of filling nitrogen in our tyres. And no handling differences whatsoever. If u have money to burn then fill nitrogen which makes it cool

                        Nitrogen filling is expensive.
Its not required during daily commuting. Yes it has few advantages like it prevents the rusting of rim and so tyre will be properly seated mostly. Also it will last longer.
So its better to fill it during moist season or for the long rides.

                        Btw air has 78% nitrogen

Im riding fz form past one year. and clocking at 20000kms + , i have used my bike with air for initial period. but later started using nitrogen only.
                          What i noticed was
                          1. need not fill or check pressure frequently.
                          2. You feel light and easy drive in high speed then low onces.
                          3. v.comfortable in braking
                          4. initially you feel difficult , special when your in off road between stone. (you get the feeling of puncture tire)
                          5.long life of tire
in south nitrogen is very easy to find and free of cost too same as Air.
special in chennai, coimbatore, erode and other area.

                          • Re: Inflating Tyres with Nitrogen

I have used nitrogen in both my car and bike for prolonged period of several months and found no huge difference from using normal air. If anyone claims here that they found a huge difference. Its rubbish talk.

Please do note that a basic tyre lasts about 20000km+ or about 10 years depending on road conditions and wheel balancing. By that period, even if the inner wall is not corroded, we still need to change tyres because the threads are worn out!!

I found that my bike tube tyre would not keep the nitrogen pressure consistent, and it would drop by 2psi every 10 days or so. Generally I put normal air every 4-5 days when I go to the bunk and the difference is same. But why shell Rs.10/tyre every 15 days when normal air is free for the bike? Also, I found that on tube tyre nitrogen makes it wobble unlike the normal air but thats just what I feel.

But with my car it was different story, the tubeless tyres did hold the air for long period, rumbling noise of the tarmac as before at high speeds was reduced. Grip and handling did not vary much, I really cannot say stopping distance actually changed. Fuel efficiency was also the same.

I would still prefer the normal air for now unless nitrogen was made free of cost, then it would make sense to go with it!

There is not much use of nitrogen filling secondly getting 100 percent pure nitrogen is almost impossible only F1 teams have the true nitrogen filling machines, even in the automotive serial fifth gear which airs on discovery turbo they showed that nitrogen filling is more of a gimmick and a normal road car or bike will gain nothing.

My 2 cents... Filled Nitrogen in both the tyres last night at the petrol pump next to the Marve chapel, Malad West and immediately felt the difference in ride quality. Don't think it's just a placebo effect as some people claim it to be. The same roads (potholes) that I ride on daily seemed a little less bumpy.

                                Charges at this pump:
20/- for nitrogen in both tyres (Opted for this for now)
100/- for a card which can be used for multiple refills within a year at the same pump.

A couple of my friends are gonna try it as well to completely negate any "placebo" effect I may have since the change to nitrogen
