  • A "G" Power spark plug is meant for easy start, and mainly improvement in FE. A Iridium is meant for longevity .
Both are fine tipped ie., the center Electrode is either 0.7~0.6 as in "G" power or 0.5~0.4 as in Iridium...These specs vary with each manufacturer.
The fine tip helps in better spark due to lesser surface area leading to concentrated spark power.

      • I have Pulsar 180 UG4 since 3 years. For the first time I removed the spark plugs with the socket spanner supplied in the tool kit which I was unaware of its purpose until now.
One spark plug has white powder on it which is on the right side of the bike while the other one shows no trace of white powder. The tip of both the spark plugs is deep black and the srew area is golden brown. Is my bike running both rich and lean or was it once ran rich and service men turn the srew to lean ?

One year ago I asked the service men to replace with new spark plugs during service. At that time I don't know how to remove them so I don't know whether they changed it or not.
Did they really changed the spark plugs or is it the same old spark plugs since the time I purchased the bike ?

Cant tell by the photo if they are new or old. the pics are out of focus. The plugs are of champion make, comes stock in pulsars. White powder means lean i guess.

            • @ Natfx7: nothing to worry, that white powder is due to water, moisture and other similar things present in environment and weather. it is due to the fact that both the holes for spark plugs are designed differently.

If you are worried about FE(mileage) then go for NGK G Power spark plug, DPR 8 EGP.

                • Thanks, stuntman princesirohi. Anyway I replaced with a pair of new spark plugs. Now my bike sounds pretty new just the way I wanted. I thought why to wait for another 15000 km to replace the spark plugs when its price is equal to 1 liter of petrol. • Now I'm planning to install iridium spark plugs on my Pulsar 200 NS. My plug change interval is at 10000 kms I think, and that's around 3300 kms away. Can anyone suggest what I should look out for while buying them? And also if they are the same as those on the 220? How do I chose the heat range? Will it be written on the plug?
Or are there better alternatives to iridium plugs?

P.S My plug's already got a gap of ~1mm so a quick reply would be most helpful.

                    • iridium plug for 200NS master spark plug hasnt come out till now...instead u can go and install the 2 slave plugs of iridium which are recomended for the p220...the both spark plugs for p220 are same as both the slave plugs of 200NS

or u can wait for NGK to officially display on their website

                      • Aditya, the gap can be adjusted with some kind of tool when you give it for the next service like in this link How to Gap Spark Plugs - Summit Racing Quick Flicks - YouTube.
However if you want to hear the true sound of your bike the day that you bought then go for the new spark plugs. It is far better to use the same type of spark plugs mentioned in the user manual without interrupting your warranty.

                        • Which Spark Plug ?

Guys so I want to get some new spark plugs and add some spark to the life of my P150....
Which spark plugs would offer decent performance values in addition to being cost effective ?
I was thinking of the Bosch twinheads ..the ones that come stock in TVS Apache....or the NGK ones.....kindly help !
My bike has run 10k kms
and also suggest me a good SS engine oil
I used a Gulf last time 20w40.....black bottle...don't remember the name exactly.
How about the Servo brand ??
                          Any idea ?

                            • Thanks for the replies. One thing I observed was that my bike had no sewing-machine-like sound before the plugs were last opened and now, after they were removed for cleaning, it's pretty irritating. I've tightened the plugs well enough after the engine cooled down properly and yet the sound persists. In fact, it's getting louder and louder by the day. I'm facing this after my third service which was done a few days back. I'm sure it's not tappet sound because this problem existed before and tightening the spark plugs did the trick. The svc simply puts it off as normal but I know it isn't. What shall I do?

                              • Check your spark plug insulator for any damage
Try rotating the spark plug from where the cap is placed on it with your hands
Do this when it is installed on the engine
If it rotates then it is the fault of the spark plug itself
During tightening sometimes the insulator breaks due to pressure

I also faced a similar issue
                                Hope this helps...
