Maintenance of your expensive riding gear

Never used Colin on a visor so don't know. I use a hand sanitiser on tours/rides and use a nifty chemical called 'Krud cutter' at home. I put some on a dry tissue and dry it.

I sometimes use warm water and Pril/dish washing detergent to clean up.

^Is wet-tissue enough to clean the bugs etc? or i shall keep a soapy solution in a spray bottle(like colin) to dislodge the bugs

Wet tissue works well too, but I discovered using the sanitiser prevents all the water dripping around since the Sanitiser is made of alchohol and evaporates.

When using only wet tissue, soak it liberally in water, wipe over the visor and let it stay for a minute and then use it again to clean. Then wipe with a dry tissue.

Never got any problems by cleaning with Colins..It cleans preity well

Colin is agood option.
I am using it for couple of years it's not bad.

A word of caution on the use of Colin...It could corode the anti-scratch and anti-fog linning of your visor.

BTW during my eary days into biking, I once tried cleaning my visor with soap and Scotchbrit (what was I thinking ). next day i had a clean spotless visor for my helmet (New one ).

Now try beating that.

I am not using on my expensive lid(visor), but the regular one which i wear for my horrendous commute is also a anti-glare one & I am using colin everyday on it, it is yet to create any negative effect and so I am completely

A bit of a warning about the Joe rocket gear.

Washing it (with a detergent) reduces or even destroys the waterproofing. So be very careful while cleaning it!

I am facing this problem. I've already treated it with some imported waterproofing soln, lets see how effective it is. I wish I had known this, would have advised you to pick up somethiing else.

I have picked Joe Rocket's gear and then I really dunno how to clean the mess.

Any Help guys?

You may see the material in the linky. Well as per my friend using normal detergents to clean the riding gear(mess=paan stains/muck & everything you pick up or is thrown at you at 100+kmph) deprives the gear of its water proofing ability.
I was thinking to clean them with EEzy
Godrej Ezee Fabric Care
but will it be enough to remove the stains/muck/dirt & retain its water proofing ability?

Doesn't the waterproof liner removable in the pants and jackets? Then you can take the outer shell and hand wash it with a normal detergent, and you can use a softer detergent like surf excel gentle wash or ezee to clean the liner.

A normal detergent will not strip the waterproofing - More often than not, waterproofing in motorcycle apparel comes through use of the membrane; the membrane's physical properties (pores large enough to let sweat out, but too small for the water droplets to come in) is what makes the fabric waterproof. Chemical treatment only makes the fabric water repellent (non-wicking), never waterproof unless it involves coating the inner layer with PU or PVC. But even then, normal detergents cause no harm.

Dry cleaning is always suspect though.

Hey guys need ur help,
I have got DSG full leather gloves which i use very occasionally for my rides
i had kept them in the cupboard without any packing and stuff and after a month or so when i took them out this was their state.
I have wiped it with a wet cloth and their is no more visible moss on it anymore but it stinks really bad, that smell is even left on the hands after use...
plz help me out with the issue....

Woah! Some stage of decay, that. If I were you, I would hand wash them gloves in warm water with a proper detergent, dry them in the sun and then treat them with a leather cleaner and conditioner like Lexol or leathermaster.

Conditioning them after the wash is a must otherwise your leather will become dry and brittle.

I have these Alpinestars knee guard! They were amazing! but after around 1.5 years of use I have got a HUGE problem!

The velcro (which is extremely fat and has elastic) does not stick anymore, or only party stick and come off while riding! I think this is very scary! I will be approaching DSG about this, but also they appear to be in perfect condition.

Is replacing them the only option?

If it is under warranty, they should be replacing them. If not, better to order some velcro straps online and get only the straps re-done.

What do u mean by a PROPER detergent (any recommendations??)
I was advised by the shopkeeper that polish it with oil if ever it get wet, and i did just that do u think that could have caused it to decay???
